TDW_VERTAuditions for The Drama Workshop’s Production of
SANDERS FAMILY CHRISTMAS Running December 2-18, 2022
By Connie Ray & Alan Bailey & John Foley & Gary Fagin

Directed by Judy Berrens

Auditions will be held Sept 8 and 9, 2022, from 7– 9 p.m. at The Drama Workshop, 3716 Glenmore, 45211.  Doors open at 6:30pm.  Parking in lots around the building.

Be aware that the Harvest Home Fair Parade, in Cheviot, is taking place on Thursday, Sept 8, starting at 6 p.m., (https://www.harvesthomefair.com/events/parade/), so parking is at a premium. Harrison Ave will be closed at North Bend Rd.

Roles: 4 Male, 3 Female

  • MERVIN OGLETHORPE – pastor of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, 30s – 40s
  • BURL SANDERS – father, 40s – 50s
  • VERA – mother, 40s – 50s
  • STANLEY – uncle, 30s – 50s
  • DENNIS and DENISE – twins, 20s – 30s
  • JUNE – sister, 20s – 30s

In this sequel to the ever-popular New York hit Smoke on the Mountain, the Sanders family returns to Mount Pleasant, NC, home of the Mount Pleasant Pickle Factory.  It’s Christmas Eve, 1941, and America is going to war.

More than two dozen Christmas carols, many of them vintage hymns, and hilarious yuletide stories from the more-or-less devout Sanders family will keep the audience laughing, clapping and singing along to bluegrass Christmas favorites.

If you can act and sing – Great.  If you can also play an instrument – Wonderful!

If you only play an instrument and want to join us onstage – Welcome!

The show was conceived for the Sanders family to also be the band, although auditionees are not required to play an instrument. However, the ability to play any of the following instruments (piano, guitar, bass, percussions, stand-up bass, fiddle, harmonica or accordion) would be beneficial.

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.

Prepare 16 bars of a Bluegrass or Country song or a Christmas Hymn.  Bring sheet music in the key that you will sing the song. An accompanist will be provided.

Auditionees should also bring a list of conflicts from September 18th to November 30. Rehearsals may begin September 18 if possible.

Cast members are expected to be fully vaccinated according to the current CDC guidelines.

Please contact the producer, Elaine Volker, at eavolker@gmail.com for questions or for a copy of the script.
