The Ghostlight Stage Company Seeks BIPOC Playwright Submissions

TGSC_logoThe Ghostlight Stage Company will be producing 2 original one act plays on October 14, 2023 as part of a staged reading event. This event will be presented at ARCO in Price Hill in their top floor recital hall venue. The plays will be put on in staged reading format with a short one week rehearsal process that concludes with a performance for the public at the end of the week. In addition, all plays will be assigned 4 designers who will come up with design concepts for the plays and a director who will come up with a full vision for the piece, as if they were being fully produced. These design/director visions will be shared with the audience in the form of lobby displays and slideshow presentations that are shown behind the actors during the staged reading performance to give the audience a better idea of what the production would look like on a full scale. The event will “pull back the curtain” for audiences to show them what all goes into the process of putting on a full scale piece of theater, while also giving playwrights the valuable experience of having a full team of designers and actors explore their piece without it being fully produced yet. The Ghostlight has plans to produce at least one of the selected plays next year with a full production run.

Currently seeking: One Act Play Submissions of 45 minutes to 1 hour in length by Cincinnati-based Playwrights. Play submissions with cast sizes of 2-4 are preferred and the subject matter can be about whatever the playwright chooses. We strongly encourage BIPOC playwrights to submit their work, as we seek to uplift the voices of underrepresented artists whose work is often underproduced. We echo the sentiments of the artists in this piece with the LA Times: https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/story/2020-10-14/40-black-playwrights-theater-racism.

Required time commitment: Playwrights will be needed on the day of the event (October 14) and for auditions (TBD in August). Additionally, they will be required to attend all rehearsals of their piece which will occur in the week leading up to the event. There will be 3 rehearsals that are 4 hours in length each. The total time needed for this entire project comes out to about 20 hours.

Pay Rate: $300 stipend

TO APPLY: Reach out to The Ghostlight’s Theatre Director, Aiden Dalton with a brief email introduction, your one act play(s) and any other supporting materials at: aiden@theghostlightstageco.com

Bold Moves Festival Opens NEXT WEEK at Aronoff Center

CB_Bold Moves2Special Pride Night and After Party on Friday, June 19

CINCINNATI, OH (June 1, 2023) – Cincinnati Ballet is proud to present Bold Moves Festival at the Aronoff Center for the Arts, June 9-18. Cincinnati Ballet’s 2023-2024 Season concludes with the dance event of the summer! The production features two diverse programs from some of the world’s most sought-after choreographers and guest artist – Flamenco and Spanish Dance star Irene Rodríguez. Audiences will also enjoy contemporary choreography from Jennifer Archibald, Val Caniparoli, William Forsythe, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, and Garrett Smith. A highlight of Program one is guest artist – Compañia Irene Rodríguez – a revered voice in the emerging contemporary Cuban dance scene, known for a particular vision of flamenco that is both Spanish and Cuban. Rodríguez has been praised as “intense” and “exacting” by The New York Times. Program 1 also features dance maverick William Forsythe’s seminal work, In the Middle, Somewhat Elevated, staged by longtime Forsythe repetiteur and Cincinnati Ballet Artistic Director Jodie Gates. Originally created in 1987 for the Paris Opera Ballet, it is considered the ‘work that changed ballet forever,’ with nine dancers battling for center stage supremacy to a pulsating electronic score. Choreographer Jennifer Archibald’s popular work, SIT, rounds out Program 1. Audiences attending Program 2 will be entranced by Annabelle Lopez Ochoa’s irreverent work, Written and Forgotten, Val Caniparoli’s lush study of Victoria repression of women in Ibsen’s House, inspired by work of 19th century playwright Henrik Ibsen, and a CB fan favorite, Garrett Smith’s expansive Façades, set to Handel and Vivaldi.

Cincinnati Ballet is proud to celebrate Cincinnati Hispanic Chamber Night on Thursday, June 15 at 7:30 pm and celebrate Pride Month with a special Pride Night performance on Friday, June 16 at 8 pm. Attendees will receive a free CB Rainbow Legs poster at the theater. Cincinnati Ballet is also excited to partner with Somerset Bar OTR for an exclusive Pride After-Party following the performance. In addition to incredible dance on the mainstage, the Festival includes screenings of the dance documentary, DANSEUR. The film shares the struggles of men in pursuit of their ballet dreams. Sexism is built into the fabric of classical ballet, an art form that has idolized women in pointe shoes and tutus while relegating men to the role of partners. Director Scott Gormley explores the difficult subjects of bullying and homophobia that those men face while illustrating the athleticism as well as vitality of ballet, through performance, creation, preservation, and education. The film features stories from James Whiteside (American Ballet Theatre), John Lam (Boston Ballet), Harper Watters (The Houston Ballet), Derek Dunn (Boston Ballet), among others. The film will be available for drop-in viewing on the Aronoff’s balcony level for all performances. Cincinnati Ballet will also host a screening of the film at the Margaret and Michael Valentine Center for Dance on Wednesday, June 14 at 6:30 pm. Irene Rodríguez will also participate in a demonstration class at the Center for Dance on Tuesday, June 13 at 6:30 pm. Both events are open to the public. In addition to these opportunities, the Ballet will present free art installations, partner exhibits, and interactive photo opportunities at the Aronoff during all Festival programming. Tickets start at $29. More information can be found at cballet.org.

Kickstarter for Brand-New Horror Musical Comedy

MISC_Open HouseFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – OPEN HOUSE, a brand-new horror musical comedy from NKY Films.
“TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE meets ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW”

SYNOPSIS: A young mother, along with her teenage daughter, live a vagabond life, bouncing from town to town, squatting in homes that they have tricked realtors into showing them during the day, and then breaking into them later at night, so they have somewhere to sleep. This grift seems to be working well until the two come across an overzealous realty couple, who show the duo a house, but refuse to let them leave.

ABOUT THE PROJECT: NKY Films brings you their next foray into hilarious terror from writer/director Ricky Glore (All Your Friends Are Dead). This horror musical comedy will be mostly filmed in Wilder, Kentucky at Bobby Mackey’s, the infamously haunted slaughterhouse featured on Travel Channel’s Ghost Adventures. Special Effects will be handled by Trevor Thompson (Malum, Devil’s Revenge, Mom & Dad) with makeup/wardrobe handled by Ashley Meenach (Hauntology, Monica). Nicholas Hiance (All Your Friends Are Dead) will serve as an executive producer and director of photography. The film is produced by Chris Morris (All Your Friends Are Dead), Mike Flinchum (All Your Friends Are Dead, Hell’s Gate) and executive produced by P.J. Starks (13 Slays Till X-Mas, Cryptids, New Fears Eve) and Jacob Trevino, Founder and CEO of Gorilla Cinema Presents. The score will be conducted by David Kornfeld, the Jeff Award-winning composer of HAYMARKET: A NEW FOLK MUSICAL and he is currently on tour as Associate Conductor of the Jagged Little Pill Broadway musical.

Open House has an exciting and talented cast featuring Timmy H. Barron (Chicago Fire), Ali Delianides (All Your Friends Are Dead), Lisa Walton (When the Night Falls, Terror Talk), and newcomer Jasmine Fondrisi.
