A musical perfect for the whole family, Seussical takes us into the world of Dr. Seuss, where we revisit beloved characters including The Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie, and JoJo. The Cat in the Hat guides us into The Jungle of Nool where we see Horton, the kind hearted elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing Whoville. He meets JoJo, a Who child sent to military school for thinking too many “thinks.” Horton decides he must protect the speck of dust on a nearby clover, while at the same time protecting an abandoned egg left to his care by the lazy Mayzie la Bird. Horton tries to convince the other animals in The Jungle of the existence of the Whos, but he is ridiculed and put on trial for insanity. Only his loyal neighbor, Gertrude McFuzz, never loses faith in him. Eventually, the two fall in love. Now one of the most widely produced musicals in the country, Seussical weaves a story of friendship, loyalty, and love. Despite all odds, Horton and Gertrude band together to save the Whos, free Horton, and restore peace and unity to the Jungle of Nool. Charming Seussical teaches us the power of being unique, and the importance of fighting for your beliefs.

Sinclair Theatre Presents AMÉLIE the Musical

Dayton, Ohio – February 20 – Sinclair Theatre is proud to present AMÉLIE the Musical, a whimsical adaptation of the hit 2001 romantic comedy, live on stage from March 20 – 28 in Blair Hall Theatre, Building 2, on Sinclair’s downtown Dayton campus. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students/seniors and are available online at www.sinclair.edu/tickets. Groups of 20 or more ordering online save all ticketing fees.

On the day of Princess Diana’s death, Amélie, a young woman more comfortable in her daydreams than in the day-to-day, finds the childhood treasures of her apartment’s previous tenant. This discovery sets her on a campaign of anonymous altruism as she sets out to better the lives of the eccentric neighbors and friends around her.

“Bringing Amélie to the stage has been a journey of discovering how small, tender acts can ripple outward and transform entire lives. What I love most about Amélie is its celebration of quiet courage—the bravery it takes to open your heart in a world that often feels disconnected,” says director, Kimberly Borst. “In this production, we’ve leaned into the magic of Parisian whimsy while grounding the story in something deeply human: the longing to be seen, to be known, and to love without fear.  We have embraced the show’s playful imagination and delicate intimacy and inviting audiences to rediscover wonder in the everyday.”

The cast consists of Ann-Margaret Adkins, Isaiah Autajay, Anthony Lombardo, Allison (Al) Friessen, Anthony (Tony) Cercone, Adalia Gaynier, William Finnell, Nona Whalen, Kailie Gould, Gabriel Reker, Tiffany Higgins, Jeniece Craver, Alida Ohrman, Ryan Hester, and Jhoana Novelo.

Music by Daniel Messé, lyrics by Daniel Messé and Nathan Tysen. Book by Craig Lucas. Based on the motion picture Amelie written by Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Guillaume Laurant. AMELIE is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals. www.concordtheatricals.com

Where: Sinclair Community College, Blair Hall Theatre (Building 2), 444 W. Third St., Dayton

Ticket Information:  Adults: $20 Students/Seniors $15 plus $2 service fee. No at-the-door ticket sales. All tickets must be purchased online at: www.sinclair.edu/tickets

Playwright in Residence Sought by American Legacy Theatre

PLAYWRIGHT IN RESIDENCE
PLAYWRIGHTS FOR CHANGE PROGRAM

MISSION
American Legacy Theatre generates inviting, reimagined theatrical experiences for all people to have a voice in enriching society.

PROJECT
American Legacy Theatre is seeking our next Playwright in Residence for our Playwrights for Change (P4C) program. P4C is American Legacy Theatre’s two-year residency program for playwrights ready to turn bold ideas into fully realized productions. We pair artists with the time, mentorship, and resources to develop their work from first idea to opening night—with the community driving the process every step of the way. From shaping the themes that matter most, to offering feedback through public readings and talkbacks, to championing full productions, the community is not just “along for the journey”; they are at the center of it. Since its launch, P4C has supported multiple artists whose work has gone on to shape both local stages and national conversations.

TIMELINE
Submit application by March 2, 2026 for first consideration. Applications accepted after as well, until Playwright is selected. Note: late submitters may be considered for future Playwright in Residence positions. The Playwright in Residence will start on contract with ALT on July 1, 2026.

EXPECTATIONS
The Playwright in Residence will meet with American Legacy Theatre’s Executive Artistic Director & CEO (virtually) 2-4 times per month to write an original play or musical over the course of ~10 months (July 2026-April/May 2027). The play/musical will have four public-facing workshop performances, scheduled over two weekends – an excerpt will be performed twice in November 2026, and the full piece will be performed twice in April/May 2027. Please note that these performances will take place in Cincinnati; the Playwright in Residence must be present for these performances and participate in post-show talkbacks.

If community feedback from the workshops indicates that the community would like to see the Playwright in Residence’s play/musical developed as a full production, the Playwright in Residence will be invited to continue working with American Legacy Theatre through spring 2028, when the world premiere production would take place in Cincinnati. (It is worth noting that so far, all workshopped pieces have been invited to become fully-staged productions.)

COMPENSATION
$500 per month for the first 12 months.
