Mariemont Players Announces 2026–2027 Season — Celebrating 90 Years of Theatre Magic

It’s a milestone year at Mariemont Players, Inc., and we couldn’t be more excited to share the lineup for our 90th Season!

This year’s selection process was extra special — after 1,504 votes from 151 patrons, we narrowed it down to a Top 12 list of fan-favorite shows. Then, 18 directors were interviewed and invited to select three productions from that list or choose a wild card from our 90-year history.

The result? A season that perfectly blends beloved classics, fresh energy, and the spirit of community theatre.

September 10–27, 2026 – ARSENIC AND OLD LACE (Directed by Jennifer Day)
A darkly hilarious tale of two sweet old ladies with a deadly secret — and the eccentric family that keeps things interesting!

November 5–22, 2026 – A TUNA CHRISTMAS (Directed by Debbi & Douglas Berlon)
Featuring Danny Davies & Wayne Wright, the original MPI “Tuna” duo, returning to reprise their iconic roles! This laugh-out-loud holiday favorite brings the chaos and charm of small-town Texas to the stage.

January 7–24, 2027 – BLITHE SPIRIT (Directed by David Derringer)
Noël Coward’s witty comedy of manners turns otherworldly when a séance brings back a spirited ex-wife with unfinished business.

March 4–21, 2027 – THE LION IN WINTER (Directed by Jerry Wiesenhahn)
Royal power, passion, and betrayal collide in this gripping family drama about love and legacy in medieval England.

May 6–23, 2027 – ENCHANTED APRIL (Directed by jef brown)
Four women escape to an Italian castle and rediscover joy, love, and hope under the Mediterranean sun.

July 8–25, 2027 – 12 ANGRY JURORS (Directed by Michael Kiser)
A timeless, powerful exploration of justice and conscience as twelve jurors decide the fate of a young defendant.

As we celebrate this incredible milestone, we’re also Lighting the Way for the Next 90 Years — raising funds to replace our aging lighting system with modern, flexible LED technology that will illuminate our stage for generations to come.

Auditions Announced for MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS at La Comedia Dinner Theatre

MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS Local Auditions

LaComedia Dinner Theatre in Springboro, Ohio, is holding an open call audition for its upcoming production of Murder on the Orient Express on Saturday, November 8, at 10:00am at 765 W. Central Ave. Springboro, Ohio.

SEEKING (all ethnicities are encouraged to audition)

  • Hercule Poirot
    Gender-Male, Dialect: Belgian.
A retired Belgian police officer. Poirot is Christie’s most famous detective and is known for his short stature and long, curly moustache. Poirot is very intelligent, extremely aware and instinctual and is a brilliant detective.
  • Monsieur Bouc
Gender – Male, Dialect: Belgian. The owner of Wagon Lit, Orient Express. Bouc is a middle-aged man with a youthful vigor and attitude. Gregarious, honest and forthright, he puts his friends and customers above profit, although he’s concerned about his company’s image. He is not a match for Poirot in intelligence, however.
  • Mary Debenham
Gender – Female, Dialect: British. A governess. Anxious, but also cool and determined, Mary has a certain sadness about her, as well as many secrets. She is carrying on a secret affair with Colonel Arburthnot.
  • Colonel Arbuthnot (doubles as Samuel Ratchett)
Gender – Male, Dialect: Scottish. A military man of the old-fashioned type, possibly old-money, and used to being obeyed without question. He is strong, charismatic, but also problematic in some of his personal views. Has a temper but loves Mary deeply.
  • Hector McQueen
Gender – Male, Dialect: American. Personal assistant and secretary to Samuel Ratchett, McQueen is a nervous character with a stutter that appears when he is especially anxious. Seems rather new to his profession. Talks a bit too much but wants everyone to get along.
  • Michel (doubles as Head Waiter)
Gender – Male, Dialect: French (Michel) & Turkish. (Head Waiter) Michel: Competent and organized, he’s the conductor for the first-class carriages of the Orient Express. Handles himself well in a crisis and is very good at his job. Head Waiter of the Hotel: Eager to please.
  • Princess Dragomiroff
Gender – Female, Dialect: Russian. Displaced Russian nobility. The Princess is a battleship: determined, arrogant, and accustomed to getting her way. She travels a great deal and holds very decided opinions.
  • Greta Ohlsson
Gender – Female, Dialect: Swedish. A Catholic missionary and baby nurse, currently serving as a companion to Princess Dragomiroff. She would like to help small children in Africa. Deeply devout. This character may be funny but should not be played as a caricature for laughs.
  • Countess Andrenyi
Gender – Female, Dialect: Hungarian / American. In addition to being married to a count (and thus, nobility), she also is a doctor. Beautiful, educated, charming, and intelligent enough to match wits with Poirot.
  • Helen Hubbard
Gender – Female, Dialect: American (Midwestern ideally). Not exactly what she seems, Hubbard comes across as a gregarious, loud, American busybody who has been married multiple times. Must be able to sing and maybe do a little dancing. Should also be able to pull off a cooler, more calculated version of this character with a cultured American accent.
  • Samuel Rachett (doubles as Colonel Arbuthnot)
Gender – Male, Dialect: American (mobster – possibly Brooklyn or Chicago-style). A dangerous and unlikable man, full of entitlement, with a hair trigger temper. A forceful personality and come across as someone not to be trusted or crossed. Thinks he’s more charming than he really is.

Please provide a current headshot and resume. Prepare 60-second (or less) monologue and be prepared to do cold reads from the show.
Rehearsals: Mon. Dec 29 – Jan. 10 (Mon-Sat 9am-6pm) (excluding Jan. 1)
Tech: Jan. 12 – 14.

Performances: Jan. 15 – Feb. 15, 2026, Thurs-Sun matinees and evenings.
Rehearsal and performance conflicts will not be accepted.
Performers are paid biweekly. Meal each performance, gym membership, workman’s comp provided.

If you have questions, or for more information email artisticdirector@lacomedia.com
Non-Equity.

Although it is highly beneficial to attend the in-person audition, if you are unable to be present, you may send resume, headshot, and 60-second monologue video reel before that day to submissions@lacomedia.com.

THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW Review

By Katrina “Kat” Reynolds

THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW presented by The Carnegie through November 2nd. I attended the Opening Saturday matinee performance.

Full disclosure: I reviewed this show in 2024 and while I am not going to do a straight-up comparison, I am making a concerted effort to point out things I may not have pointed out the first time around. -Kat

THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW with book, music, and lyrics by Richard O’Brien has returned to The Carnegie with excellent timing: having a midnight show on Halloween just feels right, doesn’t it? For those who may not know, it’s a classic boy meets girl story with incredible music and – oh, did we mention aliens and plenty of sexual expression? Director & Choreographer Eric Byrd hits this one out of the park again and – I daresay – even farther this time.

Scenic & Video Designer (as well as Producer) Tyler Gabbard’s vision and execution thereof are different, exciting, and just plain smart. Shout-out to work by both Lighting Designer Julie Cowger and Sound Designer Jason Sebastian for an immersive but never distracting experience. Music Director (and keyboard player) Steve Goers once again brings us a beautiful vocal aesthetic through his very talented cast. And kudos once again to the team who helped make the actors look great: Costume Designer Jeff Shearer and Wig Designer Candace Leyland. Rumour has it Sam Evans (who plays Usherette/Magenta) did several makeup lewks in addition to her own and I think that deserves a mention. I will need to hire her to make me gorgeous one of these days – call me!

Fortunately for the audience, most of the brilliant performing ensemble has returned this year and they are coming in hot! Two of particular note are Caroline Rakestraw as Janet Weiss and Tommy Sanders as Brad Majors. Each has an excellent command of the stage and their character arcs with flawless vocals to boot. If these two artists are an indication of how the future of theatre looks, we should sleep easily.

Back in the corset of Dr. Frank ‘N’ Furter is the superb Dusty Ray Bottoms. They didn’t need to come back even better, but they did and here we are lucky enough to be able to enjoy it. There was not one line, one note, or one expressive turn of the facial muscles needing to be changed. Mx. Bottoms has mastered the delicate art of giving homage to the actor who originated the role 50 years ago and making it their own which is no small task. Bravx to Dusty Ray!

With some of the best artists in the area on stage and behind it, The Carnegie’s The Rocky Horror Show should not be missed. Pacing is smooth and helps a somewhat weaker book – but let’s be honest: Rocky’s primary draw is and always was the music. Given how well the show is selling, I encourage veterans and virgins alike to get their tickets now for one of its final few performances.

Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati Presents World Premiere Musical IT’S FRITZ! A Sequel to Fiona: The Musical, December 3 – 31, 2025

(Cincinnati, OH) Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati (ETC) is thrilled to present the much-anticipated sequel to its bestselling show of all time with the world premiere of It’s Fritz! from Cincinnati native Zina Camblin and ETC composer David Kisor. Everyone knows Fiona the hippo, but her little brother Fritz is still figuring out who he wants to be. In this new family-friendly musical, Hippo Cove’s newest arrival is ready to wade out of the background and into his own big moment. Playing December 3 – 31, 2025, this world premiere musical is holiday fun for the entire family! Directed by D. Lynn Meyers. Premiere Sponsor is The Markley Family. Design Sponsor is The Otto M. Budig Family Foundation.

Having a world-famous big sister makes Fritz wonder if there’s any spotlight left for him. When he sets out to find what makes him special, the path isn’t always clear, but with some help from the zoo’s colorful cast of animals, Fritz discovers that standing out starts by listening, learning, and leaning on those who believe in you. Full of humor and heart—and a few muddy puddles along the way!—this is a story about family, finding your place, and the courage it takes to create your own splash.

“Even though it’s a sequel, you don’t have to have seen the first one to enjoy the second,” says ETC’s Producing Artistic Director D. Lynn Meyers. “We catch up on some of the things that happened to Fiona since we ended the first story. In this musical Fiona and Fritz are best friends, so it’s a beautiful story of the love of a big sister for her little brother. I’m thrilled we get to shine a light on the extraordinary work that the Cincinnati Zoo does, not only in the way they care for these marvelous animals, but in what they bring to our city. It’s a real privilege to be able to tell a story that, without them, wouldn’t exist.”

Cast includes Michael G. Bath (Hugh), Sara Mackie (Bibi), Andrew Maloney (Pelican/Zander), Brooke Steele (Colobus Monkey/Diana), Brandi La’Sherrill (Zoe), R. DeAndré Smith (Tucker), KG Rucker (Audrey), Maddi O’Connell (Fiona), TaShauna Ajoi Jenkins (Bearcat), Char Adams (Dudley/Kudu), Abigail Dirr (Baby Cheetah), and Elliet Malatesta (Baby Cheetah). Additionally, Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati welcomes the following performers in their ETC debuts: Montez Jenkins Copeland (Giraffe/Dr. Cornelius), Krishangi Allin (Baby Kudu), Troian Butler (Fritz), Grace Caccavari (Baby Cheetah/Zoo Goer), and Allyson van Haaren (Baby Sloth).

Production team: Brian c. Mehring (Resident Scenic & Lighting Designer), Steve Goers (Music Director), Dee Anne Bryll (Choreographer), Maria Fernanda Ortiz Lopez (Costume Designer), Jake Tillmann (Sound Designer), Becca Schall (Projection Designer), Shannon Rae Lutz (Properties Curator & Design Assistant), and Jacob Dowell (Technical Director). Production Stage Manager is Margot Whitney. Assistant Stage Manager is Lexi Muller.
