This original rock revue will take audiences through a story in a medieval setting that they think they may already know. A Princess has come of age and the kingdom has gathered to celebrate the bright occasion. Like everything in life, unexpected twists can come at any time, and we quickly find ourselves in the heat of a battle for power over the kingdom and more importantly the happenings within the Royal family’s own dwelling. Epic rock songs propel this story through highs and lows, bringing emotion and new meaning to classic music and lyrics from the past and present in this nonstop, high-energy production. CLYBOURNE PARK Runs Sept. 5-22

CLYBOURNE PARK
Mariemont Players
Sept. 5-22
[Walton Creek]

Directed by Dan Maloney
Produced by Elizabeth L. Taylor

Cast: Fred Murrell as Russ/Dan, Alicia Friedman as Bev/Kathy, Jamie Sivrais as Karl/Steve, Kayla Theis as Betsy/Lindsey, Tia Tonae as Francine/Lena, Nate Huitger as Jim/Tom & Phillip Latham as Albert Kevin

Clybourne Park explodes in two outrageous acts set fifty years apart. Act One takes place in 1959, as white community leaders anxiously try to stop the sale of a home to a black family. Act Two is set in the same house in the present day, as the now predominantly African-American neighborhood battles to hold its ground in the face of gentrification. Are the issues festering beneath the floorboards actually the same, fifty years on? This excruciatingly funny and squirm-inducing satire explores the fault line between race and property. Inspired by Lorraine Hansberry’s play, A Raisin in the Sun.  CLYBOURNE PARK discusses and depicts sensitive topics such as racial discrimination, PTSD, and suicide. It also contains adult humor and strong language which may be inappropriate for children. Viewer discretion is advised.
