Financial Literacy Workshop for Artists On Feb. 5

About the workshop:
Being a professional artist takes much more than just creativity and artistic talent. Every working artist knows that the business side of things is just as, if not more, important than the art itself. That’s why professional artist and finance expert Julie Locker is here to guide you with an overview of financial literacy geared specifically towards artists!

This 2 hour workshop will include:

  • comprehensive budgeting advice geared towards independent contractors
  • money mindset: replacing anxiety with empowerment
  • retirement planning for freelancers
  • how to self-fund your projects
  • presentation & talk-back with a professional artist and finance expert

Anderson Theatre Offers THE GLASS MENAGERIE and THE MOUSETRAP in February

AHS_ The Glass MenagerieTwo master playwrights, two groundbreaking plays, one amazing weekend. The Glass Menagerie is a semi-autobiographical masterpiece by Tennessee Williams, a lyric and emotional ‘memory play’ that reflects on family dysfunction and the difficulty of accepting reality. The Mousetrap is the iconic murder mystery by Agatha Christie, a tale of suspense and murder that stands at the world’s longest-running play. Anderson Theatre is presenting both of these plays in a single weekend in February, giving audiences alternating nights of some of the best theatre in history.

AHS_The MousetrapThe Glass Menagerie will run February 15 & 17, and The Mousetrap will run February 16 & 18. Tickets go on sale to the public on 1/6/2024. Mason Community Players Kick Off 2024 Season

MCP_ProofThe Mason Community Players is the oldest continually operating community theater organization in Warren County, OH. The group operates and performs at the Mason Community Playhouse, located at 5529 Mason Rd. in Mason, OH. Since its creation in 1973, the Mason Community Players has brought more than 120 productions and 30 original musical reviews to audiences in Mason, Ohio. More importantly, the group has become a family for the community, involving people of all ages on stage, backstage, and as spectators. 

Director Jim Cronin and Producer Tess Catlin invite you to join us as MCP presents Proof. Set in Chicago, the show follows Catherine, who is following in the footsteps of her father, Robert; a mathematical genius and professor. Add in a flirty graduate student, and a hyper-organized older sister and it equals one awe inspiring show.  

Proof is 2001 Pulitzer Prize winning drama written by David Auburn. Within one evening he explores the themes of genius and madness, the power of heredity vs the power of free will, and the question of which is greater –  trust or proof. Join this search for answers presented February 23rd – March 2nd at the Mason Community Playhouse in Catherine’s pursuit of Proof.

Also included in the Mason Community Players 2024 season will be the musical review Timeless in April, God’s Favorite in June, the iconic Schoolhouse Rock LIVE in September and The Mousetrap by Agatha Christie in November. Harlene Frye is going to marry her childhood sweetheart this weekend . . . assuming the typical Frye family hijinks don’t derail the wedding! Harlene and Attie’s future together is threatened when the bride-to-be’s awful ex-flame shows up with information she doesn’t want her fiancé to find out. And Harlene’s not the only Frye keeping secrets: Sammy Jo refuses to tell her family she’s moving even though all her bags are already packed. As if that isn’t enough, Dewey can’t figure out why people keep asking him to give his sister away, and busybody Ozella Meeks has somehow ended up as the wedding coordinator. Will the Fryes be able to get Harlene down the aisle in one piece? A bighearted comedy about family—Southern-style.

Directed by Dan Hawkins, performances run May 10-18 at the Arts Center at Dunham.

Auditions Announced for YOU’RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN at Mariemont Players

MPI_logo 2020Mariemont Players, Inc. is pleased to announce auditions for our July 2024 production of YOU’RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN, based on the comic strip Peanuts by Charles M. Schulz; book, music and lyrics by Clark Gesner; additional dialogue by Michael Mayer; additional music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa; directed by Angelo Cerniglia.

Audition Dates/Times: Please arrive at the audition start time and be prepared to stay the entire time, if needed.

  • Friday, February 16 from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m.
  • Sunday, February 18 from 2:30 – 5:00 p.m.

Location: Mariemont Players – 4101 Walton Creek Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45227

Audition Requirements:

  • Please prepare to sing, acapella, 16-32 bars of any musical theatre song about being happy!
  • Dress in comfortable attire for learning and performing a short section of choreography that will be taught to you during your audition time.
  • Auditionees must be 18 years of age or older at the start of the rehearsal process.

Callbacks: Callbacks, if needed, will happen on the day you audition. You’ll be asked to sing a section of music from You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown and sheet music will be provided at that time. This also applies to any readings we might ask for too.

Production Dates: July 11 – 28, 2024

Synopsis: Happiness is great musical theatre! With charm, wit, and heart, You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown explores life through the eyes of Charlie Brown and his friends in the Peanuts gang. Musical numbers include “My Blanket and Me,” “The Kite,” “The Baseball Game,” “Little Known Facts,” “Suppertime,” and “Happiness.” Guaranteed to please audiences of all ages!

Casting (ages 18 and up)

  • Charlie Brown – male identifying, baritone
  • Lucy Van Pelt – female identifying, mezzo-soprano
  • Linus Van Pelt – male identifying, baritone
  • Schroeder – male identifying, tenor
  • Snoopy – tenor, male or female identifying
  • Sally Brown – female identifying, soprano

Along with the named characters, we are looking for actors who will play:

  •  Linus’ blanket (in the form of a dancer)
  • Woodstock (multiple, to be dancers with Snoopy)
  • Actors who will fill out additional Peanuts roles such as: Little Red-Haired Girl, Pig Pen, Marcie, and Peppermint Patty.

Rehearsal Schedule:
Mondays and Wednesdays, beginning on May 13, 2024, from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.

Beginning on June 1, 2024, Saturdays from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. will be added to rehearsal schedule.
