Commonwealth Artists Student Theatre
July 15-24
Highland High School [Fort Thomas]

Official cast list |

In roaring twenties Chicago, chorine Roxie Hart murders a faithless lover and convinces her hapless husband, Amos, to take the rap…until he finds out he’s been duped and turns on Roxie. Convicted and sent to death row, Roxie and another “Merry Murderess,” Velma Kelly, vie for the spotlight and the headlines, ultimately joining forces in search of the “American Dream”: fame, fortune, and acquittal. This sharp-edged satire features a dazzling score that sparked immortal staging by Bob Fosse.

Based on actual events (how loosely is anyone’s guess), Jim Fingal is a fresh-out-of-Harvard fact checker for a prominent but sinking New York magazine. John D’Agata is a talented writer with a transcendent essay about the suicide of a teenage boy — an essay that could save the magazine from collapse. When Jim is assigned by Emily Penrose to fact check D’Agata’s essay, the two come head to head in a comedic yet gripping battle over facts versus truth.

Casting Requirements:

  • Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.
  • A résumé and headshot are not required but are encouraged.
  • Please provide a list of all known conflicts between Jul 18 and Sep 11, 2022

Roles:

  • Jim Fingal – 20s, recent Harvard graduate
  • Emily Penrose – Late 40s to 60s, Editor-in-Chief
  • John D’Agata – 40s to 60s, essayist
