Directed & choreographed by Aaron Washington
Musical direction by Sarah Plaugher

TUCK EVERLASTING is based on the novel of the same name by Natalie Babbitt. It tells the story of a family who drink water from a magical spring and become immortal. When they encounter a young girl who lives in their rural New England town, she becomes friends with one of the sons, who soon offers her the secret to everlasting life. She then has to decide if she wants to join her new friends in immortality, or if she will live out her normal life. Tuck Everlasting premiered in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2015 and began playing on Broadway in 2016. It received positive reviews, especially praising the “dazzling ballet” in the second act. A timeless story of family, loss, friendship, and love, TUCK EVERLASTING is sure to become a classic favorite.

KAPLAN NEW WORKS IN THE PARK Runs Sept. 23-26

CB_Kaplan New Works 2021KAPLAN NEW WORKS IN THE PARK
Cincinnati Ballet
Sept. 23-26
Seasongood Pavilion [Eden Park]

Choreography by Jennifer Archibald

Via David Lyman: Sad news from Cincinnati Ballet. They have cancelled all performances of the Kaplan New Works in the Park series. The reason? “Anticipated inclement weather and low temperatures.” The performances will NOT be rescheduled. “Ballet management made the decision out of an abundance of caution for the health and safety of the performers.”

We open with The Kaplan New Works Series with a new twist — outdoors at Seasongood Pavilion in Eden Park. Kaplan New Works in the Park will be a ‘breath of fresh air,’ featuring groundbreaking choreography in a welcoming community space. This ambitious program will include world premieres from DANCEFIX phenom Heather Britt and three company dancers, Melissa Gelfin De-Poli, Daniel Baldwin, and Taylor Carrasco, as well as the return of Resident Choreographer Jennifer Archibald’s Sit. Thanks to strong sponsorship, this program will be free to the community, but guests are encouraged contribute what they wish.

The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati Postpones DISNEY’S DESCENDANTS

COVID is “Rotten to the Core”

Cincinnati: Although still weeks away from opening the first MainStage production in the company’s 102nd Season, The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati (TCT) feels that it is in the best interest of its littlest patrons to postpone all performances of DISNEY’S DESCENDANTS: THE MUSICAL, slated to run October 9 – 17, 2021 at the Taft Theatre to the 22-23 season.

When the Pandemic originally started, TCT formed a COVID Ad Hoc Committee, comprised of representatives from the medical community, including Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and TriHealth, members of the TCT Board of Trustees, and staff. Since March 2020, this Committee’s recommendations have allowed TCT to safely navigate this very tenuous time, and the company is leaning on them again for direction.

TCTC_Descendents Cancelled backThe COVID Ad Hoc Committee feels it is TCT’s responsibility to help protect those who can’t protect themselves as a vaccine is not yet available for children ages 12 and under. Because MainStage audiences are mostly comprised of this particular age group, the group feels it would not be prudent to hold performances at the Taft Theatre this October.

“At The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati, there is one thing we know for sure: you can always count on us to keep your children safe.  Upon seeing a first-hand increase in the number of children contracting COVID, with the Delta variant on the rise, increasing hospitalizations for children with respiratory conditions, and growing breakthrough cases for vaccinated adults, our COVID Committee feels this situation will likely get worse before it gets better,” says Kim Kern, TCT’s Managing Director and CEO.

Roderick Justice, Producing Artistic Director, echoes that sentiment saying, “Our productions pit the heroes against the villains, and there is no villain more insidious right now than COVID-19 and its variants.  We will continue to monitor the local situation and heed advice from our Committee as well as national recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control. We want performances at The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati to be a safe space filled with wonder, not worry.”

TCT 21-22 subscription holders will receive a refund equal to one-quarter of the original subscription price. Being the nation’s oldest children’s theatre, the company has kept going and growing through the generosity of loyal patrons who believe in the company’s mission. Patrons who choose to donate their ticket price back to TCT are asked to email tickets@tctcincinnati.com by Wednesday, August 25. Refunds will automatically appear on patrons’ credit card statements.

As of right now, TCT plans to keep ELF THE MUSICAL JR. on the schedule in December, as well as ROALD DAHL’S MATILDA THE MUSICAL JR. in February 2022 and THE WIZ JR. in April 2022.

TCT will continue its slate of touring productions as well as digital programming available online.

Last year, The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati’s touring season was redesigned with the ability to perform shows at schools and community venues either in-person or through two different styles of digital presentations: A streamed version of the show through Broadway on Demand, or the brand new “Pick-A-Path” Series, where audiences choose their own adventure and get to decide how they want the story to end. This blended interactive storytelling gives audiences an experience they will never forget. In-person performances include a live, post-show talk-back with actors to engage students in the production’s message. For digital performances, teachers will have the opportunity to schedule a live, post-show talk-back via Zoom.

“Pick a Path” is in partnership with Cincinnati State Technical and Community College, and titles include: JAQUELINE AND THE BEANSTALK, HARRIET TUBMAN: STRAIGHT UP OUTTA’ THE UNDERGROUNDand MARTIN’S DREAMFor details or to book a touring experience, email kamel.mccray@tctcincinnati.com

Director Submissions Being Accepted by Loveland Stage Company

LSC_logoLoveland Stage Company Play Submittals Step One: The director will submit in writing, a short (50 words or less), summary of the action of the play or musical. Following the summary, the director will describe his or her background in the theater and explain their unique qualifications for directing their play. Proposals for the coming season* must be submitted in writing to the board by October 31 to be assured consideration for that season.
* The season is June 1, 2022 through the following May 31, 2023

Step Two: If the director’s proposal is approved the director will complete a detailed production plan and submit the plan to the board, in person, for their approval. An example of a production plan follows.

Sample Production Plan: The director will submit in writing the following: The board will consider the plan and suggest possible revisions to the proposal.

  1. List all characters in the play or musical and give a brief description of their age and type.
  2. What is your overall concept of the play?
  3. Describe your vision of the set and costumes.
  4. How much rehearsal time will you need for this play?
  5. Will you need extra production assistants, e.g. assistant director, assistant music director, vocal coach?
  6. Do you have a proposed budget for the production?
  7. Are there any exception costs associated with this production? (orchestra or musicians, etc.)
  8. Do you have scheduling concerns regarding your availability?

In other words, when would you be available to direct this production? The board will consider the plan and suggest possible revisions to the plan.

Step Three: Revisions may be made to the plan and the board makes a final determination regarding the play/musical. At the discretion of the board, exceptions to this procedure could be made for a director who has directed with the Loveland Stage Company in the past and whose dependability is certain. The board may also request additional information from the director.

Loveland Stage Company Guidelines for Selecting Directors:
These guidelines are intended as suggestions for directors who wish to direct at the Loveland Stage Company. We may consider other factors that the board deems necessary in determining the choice of either directors or shows for the coming season.

  1. Potential directors must be members of the Loveland Stage Company for at least one year prior to submitting a play for consideration.
  2. Potential directors must have participated in at least two major shows at the Loveland Stage Company.
