HELLO, DOLLY! at Cincinnati Christian Schools

“HELLO, DOLLY!, the blockbuster Broadway hit, bursts with humor, romance, high-energy dancing, and some of the greatest songs in musical theater history. The romantic and comic exploits of Dolly Gallagher-Levi, turn-of-the-century matchmaker and ‘woman who arranges things,’ are certain to thrill and entertain audiences again and again. The show’s memorable songs include “Put On Your Sunday Clothes,” “Ribbons Down My Back,” “Before the Parade Passes By,” “Hello, Dolly!,” “Elegance,” and “It Only Takes a Moment.”

Theatre has always been a place of brief escape from the chaos, stress, and frenzy of reality. To enter a world where you can fall in love in just one evening and where it’s perfectly acceptable to break out in song, just may be the place to spend an evening out of your busy schedule. It’s good to take a break and be reminded of how simple life can be if you have some love, joy, and friendship. If you do decide to come, be prepared to laugh and “hum” along with a Broadway classic.

The performances will be performed at the Parrish Auditorium the first weekend in March. This fast-paced, energetic musical is great for all ages. With more than 40 students, the cast of HELLO, DOLLY! is sure to impress with their vocal talent, dancing, and hilarious performances.

Featuring Olivia Reese as Dolly Gallagher-Levi, Parker Wilhelm as Horace Vandergelder, Luke Schlake as Cornelius Hackl, Zachary Schlake as Barnaby Tucker, Maggie Brown as Irene Molloy, and Merrick Heid as Minnie Fay.

Auditions Announced for LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS at Mount Notre Dame

MNDT_logo2The MNDT Spring Show is open to MND Students and male High School students throughout the tri state area.

If you are currently enrolled in High School then you are eligible to audition for this production.

AUDITIONS

  • Monday February 25th, 3:30pm to 5:30pm
  • Tuesday February 26th, 3:30pm to 5:30pm

If callbacks are necessary, they will be held after auditions on Wednesday February 27th.

PREPARE
Please prepare a 60 second Comedic Monologue and 32 bars of a comedic Musical Theatre piece. We are accepting selections from the show.

You must supply the sheet music for your audition. An accompanist will be provided. No tracks or acapella singing will be accepted.

Rehearsals are Tuesday and Thursday 3:30pm to 6:30pm, and Saturday 3:30pm to 5:30pm. We ask that all conflicts are presented at the auditions.

Performances are May 3rd – 5th and May 9th – 11th.

Auditions Announced for WE ARE MONSTERS at Camp Carnegie

It’s that time of year again, The Carnegie invites any student between the ages of 7 and 18 who has ever attended Camp Carnegie or Artstop to take their skills to the next level and audition for WE ARE MONSTERS.

WE ARE MONSTERS is a hilarious musical that follows human kids into a monster cabaret filled with quirky characters. The adventurous humans uncover vegetarian vampires and rock ‘n roll werewolves, gradually realizing there may be more to these monsters than meets the eye! Most importantly, these monsters and kids discover the importance of friendship and celebrating the attributes that make each of us different and unique.

Auditions will be held by appointment on February 25 and 27 in Eva G. Farris Education Center at The Carnegie. There are five audition spots in each half-hour time slot:

February 25, 2019 | 4:30-5 p.m., 5-5:30 p.m., 5:30-6 p.m., 6-6:30 p.m.
February 27, 2019 | 4:30-5 p.m., 5-5:30 p.m., 5:30-6 p.m., 6-6:30 p.m.

The Carnegie will also be looking for older students interested in filling the roles of stage manager, dance captain, and stage crew.

What to prepare:

  • A prepared, memorized song (no more than 60 seconds memorized)
    • Feel free to sing one of the following songs from WE ARE MONSTERS
      • Be in Touch
      • Howl at the Moon
      • We Love Lettuce
        • Email Alissa Paasch if you would like the lyrics and music to one of the songs above
    • If you are taking private lessons and can bring pre-recorded music, you may bring something prepared in your lessons
  • Performers may also be asked to:
    • Improvise a short scene
    • Demonstrate their movement in a brief dance combo
    • Read a short snippet from the script

What we are looking for:

  • Courage to perform in front of an audience
  • The ability to memorize and prepare for a performance
  • Volume, clarity, and commitment
  • Personality and attitude in delivering character

Please keep the following in mind:

  • Students who are cast will need to pay a $50 fee and have a signed permission form to participate
  • Your child may not be cast or might be offered a smaller role if they have too many conflicts

Rehearsals will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30-6:30 p.m. March 11 – May 22, 2019. Students will not need to attend all rehearsals. Once we receive student conflicts, we will create a detailed rehearsal schedule.

Tech week will be 4-7 p.m. from May 28 – May 31, 2019. All students must attend. 

Performances will be June 1 and 2 at 2 p.m. All students must attend.

We are aware of the fact that many of the students have not auditioned before. We will be patient and gentle.

The KSO Drives its Chevy to the Levy with its own Recipe for AMERICAN PIE

The Kentucky Symphony Orchestra’s 2018-19 passport to musical adventure returns stateside sporting new and classic musical fashions. “American composers continue to add bold flavor and architecture to symphonic music via technology and vivid soundscapes, while offering new forms and fireworks for both soloists and the orchestra,” commented KSO Music Director James Cassidy.

Composer & DJ Mason Bates was recently named the most performed composer of his generation, and 2018 composer of the year by Musical America. Bates’ orchestral works are noted for their unique integration of electronic sounds. The KSO opens its program with his “Mothership,” a 10’ piece in which soloists temporarily dock into the orchestra, and feed into the energy of modern techno dance rhythms, driven by a laptop computer and monitors on stage. The work was premiered in 2011 by the Youtube Symphony Orchestra from Sydney, Australia to a world-wide, live internet audience of 2 million viewers. The work will receive its Tristate premiere with the KSO.

Ferde Grofé’s depiction of Grand Canyon was inspired by his jeep trip to the Canyon in 1916. Years later, after scoring Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue for full orchestra, Grofé returned to his musical sketches/recollections of his Grand Canyon trip and finished his five-movement work in 1931. This American warhorse sonically envisions the Canyon’s —“Sunrise,” “Painted Dessert,” burros “On the Trail,” “Sunset” and a “Cloudburst.” With curator Stephen Lias’ projected images and video, the KSO will celebrate the Grand Canyon’s National Park’s 100th anniversary, with a performance of Grofe’s celebrated work.

Violinist Sandy Cameron joins the KSO after intermission for Samuel Barber’s Violin Concerto, with its two beautiful lyrical movements and quick athletic finale. Barber wrote the concerto in 1939 and revised it in 1948. Ms. Cameron has toured throughout the world and is noted for her work with former Oingo Boingo front man and award winning film score composer Danny Elfman. Beginning with Elfman’s Cirque du Soleil show “IRIS” and the 2017 world premiere of his violin concerto “Eleven Eleven” Ms. Cameron has appeared as featured soloist on PBS broadcasts from New York and Vienna of Elfman’s film music. Sandy will perform the extended czardas/cadenza from Elfman’s Suite from the film Edward Scissorhands with the KSO and NKU Women’s choir to close out the All-American evening.

Auditions and Technical Interviews Announced for MR. BURNS and SPRING AWAKENING at Commonwealth Artists Student Theatre

Requirements for SPRING AWAKENING:

  • 32 measure excerpt from a Broadway show that showcases your vocal talents

    • An accompanist, iPod/phone connection, and CD player will be provided. If you intend on using the accompanist, please provide a clearly marked score that is hole punched and placed in a three-ring binder.  A cappella singing is strongly discouraged

  • A memorized 45 second to 1-minute monologue from a play

  • Review and learn the dance from the video (video available soon).

    • ***Please remember the dance audition is not a commentary on your dancing skills.  We are not just assessing your dance ability.  We are assessing your ability  of comprehension, your acting while dancing and, most of all, your willingness to have fun.​

      • There will be a voluntary dance workshop to brush​ up the video for anyone interested for 30 minutes prior  to auditions starting on the days of auditions

Requirements for MR BURNS, a post-electric play:

  • 1 minute monologue from a play similar in style to the season selection
