MPI_logoSIX DANCE LESSONS IN SIX WEEKS
A Comedy/Drama by Richard Alfieri
September 11–27, 2015
Lilly, the aging wife of a Southern Baptist minister, takes a dance lesson every week from Michael, a sarcastic, much younger, instructor. What starts as a battle gradually becomes something quite different.

CHRISTMAS BELLES
A Comedy by Jamie Wooten, Jessie Jones and Nicholas Hope
November 6–22, 2015
A church Christmas program spins hilariously out of control in this southern comedy. This hilarious holiday journey through a misadventure-filled Christmas Eve is guaranteed to bring joy to your world!

RADIUM GIRLS
A Drama by D W Gregory
January 8–24, 2016
Inspired by a true story, Radium Girls tells of the girls who painted radium numerals on watches to make them glow in the dark at a time when few realized how dangerous radioactivity could be. Written with warmth and humor, Radium Girls has been hailed by critics as a powerful and engrossing play.

HAY FEVER
A Comedy by Noel Coward
March 4–20, 2016
Unconventional, risqué, and often downright rude, the Blisses are everything an upper-crust English family should not be. This is made abundantly clear when each family member invites a guest for the weekend.  Alliances form, affairs begin, and formality is thrown to the wind. Noel Coward’s perfect comedy will send you home laughing.

WHO AM I THIS TIME?
A Comedy by Aaron Posner, adapted from stories by Kurt Vonnegut
May 6–22, 2016
Three comic masterpieces by Kurt Vonnegut are sewn together into a seamless evening of love (pure and complicated), hilarity and humanity. This is a smart delightful comedy for the whole family.

THE COMPLETE WORKS OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE (ABRIDGED)
A Comedy by Adam Long, Daniel Singer and Jess Winfield
July 8–24, 2016
Fast paced, witty and physical, this play is full of laughter for Shakespeare lovers and haters alike. It’s a Shakespearian mix of pratfalls, clunky female impersonators, clean-cut ribaldry, and broad burlesque. Expect a delightful evening brushing up on your Shakespeare.

The Carnegie Theatre Series Promises Entertaining 2015-2016 Season Comprised of Old and New Classics

THE CARNEGIE’S THEATRE SERIES PROMISES ENTERTAINING
2015-16 SEASON COMPRISED OF OLD AND NEW CLASSICS

COVINGTON, KY- The last year has heralded change for The Carnegie with the installation of new Theatre Director, Maggie Perrino, but the great shows, phenomenal talent, and welcoming atmosphere of The Carnegie Theatre Series remain the same. Taking a cue from last season’s blockbuster production of WEST SIDE STORY, the highest grossing show in The Carnegie’s history, this season will be chock full of hits that offer something for everyone.

The Carnegie is excited to announce its 2015-16 Theatre Series, inviting you to the historic Otto M. Budig Theatre in August for a little COMPANY. In November, The Carnegie takes on an air of mystery as it presents the comedy-thriller SLEUTH, a delightful game of cat-and-mouse that will keep audiences guessing right up until the end. A light, but creative staging of THE WIZARD OF OZ takes you away from the January winter blahs with a wonderful flight of fancy and THE LAST FIVE YEARS closes the season in April with spellbinding songs that will tug at your heartstrings.

The Carnegie’s 2015-16 Theatre Series

Robert is single, but all of his friends are married. He envies their love and companionship, but can’t seem to part with his bachelor ways. On his 35th birthday, they surprise him with a cake and a birthday wish that will leave him pondering the life he’s chosen. Full of lively, idiosyncratic characters, in addition to some of Sondheim’s best known songs, COMPANY is a rollicking and reflective send up of the modern relationship. Both poignant and funny, anyone who’s been in love can find a little of themselves in this contemporary Broadway classic.

Winner of twelve Tony Awards (including “Best Musical”) in 1971 and three Tony Awards (including “Best Revival of a Musical”) in 2007, COMPANY is one of the most beloved musicals of the modern era. Featuring hit songs such as “Another Hundred People,” “Side by Side by Side,” “The Ladies Who Lunch,” and “Being Alive,” COMPANY is musical comedy at its very best.

With Music and Lyrics by Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg
Background Music by Herbert Stothart
Dance and Vocal Arrangements by Peter Howard Orchestration by Larry Wilcox
Adapted by John Kane for the Royal Shakespeare Company
Based upon the Classical Motion Picture owned by Turner Entertainment Co. and distributed in all media by Warner Bros.

Directed by Matthew Wilson
Music Direction by J.R. Cassidy
Featuring the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra
Playing weekends January 21 – 31, 2016

We’re off to see THE WIZARD OF OZ at The Carnegie! Add a little fantasy and adventure to those gray January days with a trip to the Emerald City to see Dorothy, Toto and the rest of the colorful residents of Oz. Imaginatively reproduced for The Carnegie stage, and impeccably accompanied by The Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, this classic tale is sure to delight fans both old and young.

Based on the hit MGM film, THE WIZARD OF OZ brings out the child in all of us with songs like “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” and “We’re Off to See the Wizard.” THE WIZARD OF OZ will be a lightly staged production reminiscent of our sold-out staging of THE SOUND OF MUSIC presented in 2014.

What does “lightly staged” mean? In a lightly staged production, music and storytelling take priority over the more physical aspects of the show. Audiences will see musicians onstage, beautiful costumes, evocative lighting, and creative settings. They will not see scripts in-hand, a multitude of props, or extensive scenic/costume changes.

Ten Performances:
Thursday, January 21, 7:30pm ● Friday, January 22, 7:30pm ● Saturday, January 23, 2pm & 7:30pm ● Sunday, January 24, 3pm
Thursday, January 28, 7:30pm ● Friday, January 29, 7:30pm ● Saturday, January 30, 2pm & 7:30pm ● Sunday, January 31, 3pm

THE WIZARD OF OZ is produced by arrangement with TAMS-WITMARK MUSIC LIBRARY, INC., 560 Lexington Avenue, New York, NY 10022.

However, their storytelling overlaps for just a moment, on the day of their wedding, for one of the most beautiful duets ever written for the musical theatre.

Beloved American composer, Jason Robert Brown, creates an extraordinarily captivating score that has been staged and sung the world over, and is now featured in the 2015 feature film starring Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan. This romantic drama is a night of theatre not to be missed.

Auditions Announced for HEARTBREAK HOUSE at Dayton Theatre Guild

DTGOpen audition notice for HEARTBREAK HOUSE by George Bernard Shaw

Auditions will be held Mon & Tue, April 20 & 21, 2015, starting at 7:00 pm both nights.

The Dayton Theatre Guild at the Caryl D. Philip TheatreScape
430 Wayne Ave, Dayton OH, 45410
937-298-5993 — www.daytontheatreguild.org

Directed by Patrick Hayes
Produced by Kathy Mola

DOWNTON ABBY meets FAWLTY TOWERS in George Bernard Shaw’s scathingly satirical look at the social and political systems of Edwardian England leading up to the First World War. “England”, he says, “is a ship with a drunken captain and a negligent crew” so set a course for chaos in HEARTBREAK HOUSE.

Casting Requirements:

  • Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.
  • Please bring all conflicts between April 22 and June 14.
  • A résumé and headshot are not required but are appreciated.

-) CAPTAIN SHOTOVER
An eccentric retired sea captain and master of the house. He has two goals left in life: to learn how to explode dynamite with his mind and to attain the perfect state of tranquility, or as he calls it, the “seventh degree of concentration.” (The latter he achieves by drinking vast amounts of rum)

-) LADY ARIADNE (ADDY) UTTERWORD
Captain Shotover’s youngest daughter, age forty-two. Very pretty, blonde, and disorganized on the outside but turns out to be very competent. She has returned home after living overseas for over twenty years to find the house and its inhabitants greatly changed.

-) MRS. HESIONE (HESSY) HUSHABYE
Captain Shotover’s eldest daughter. She rebels against the role of domestic hostess she has been forced to play for many years and exults in excitement when the bombs start to fall.

-) HECTOR HUSHABYE
Hesione’s husband. He is somewhat of a dandy and shy with an impressive mustache. He makes up stories about adventures even though he has led a very adventurous life.

-) ELLIE DUNN
A young singer, whose romantic picture of the world is destroyed when she discovers that the man she is in love with isn’t who she thought he was. She is engaged to be married to Boss Mangan out of familial obligation.

-) MAZZINI DUNN
Ellie’s father, little, earnest man with absolutely no business sense at all.

-) ALFRED (BOSS) MANGAN
Fifty-five, business man, engaged to be married to Ellie Dunn. He is a factory owner and boss of Mazzini Dunn. By all appearances he is a very rich man.

-) BILLY DUNN (no relation)
An ex-pirate turned burglar who is captured when he tries to rob Heartbreak House.

-) NURSE GUINESS
Casual and impudent, she has been the captain’s housekeeper since “Addy” and “Hessy” were children. She tries to keep the chaos of the house in some manageable control.

-) RANDALL UTTERWORD
The younger brother of Ariadne’s husband. He looks like a gentleman and is apparently well mannered but turns out to be untalented, peevish, and childish. He is in love with Ariadne.

For more information, contact Producer Kathy Mola at kathy.mola@daytontheatreguild.org.

The show runs weekends May 29-June 14, 2015
First Weekend: Friday 8pm, Saturday 8pm, Sunday 3pm

2015-2016 Season Announced by Middletown Lyric Theatre

MLT_logoSeptember
PARADE a musical
Music and Lyrics by  Jason Robert Brown
Co-Conceived and Directed on Broadway by  Harold Prince

Based on the true story of the trial and lynching of Leo Franklin
The tragic, true story of the trial and lynching of a man wrongly accused of murder is brought to theatrical life. Amid religious intolerance, political injustice and racial tension, the stirring TONY Award winning Parade explores the endurance of love and hope against all the odds. In 1913, Leo Frank, a Brooklyn-raised Jew living in Georgia, is put on trial for the murder of 13-year-old Mary Phagan, a factory worker under his employ. Already guilty in the eyes of everyone around him, a sensationalist publisher and a janitor’s false testimony seal Leo’s fate. His only defenders are a governor with a conscience, and, eventually, his assimilated Southern wife who finds the strength and love to become his greatest champion.

November
THE COUNTRY HOUSE a comedy/drama
By David Margulies

A brood of famous and longing-to-be-famous creative artists have gathered at their summer home during the Williamstown Theatre Festival. When the weekend takes an unexpected turn, everyone is forced to improvise, inciting a series of simmering jealousies, romantic outbursts, and passionate soul-searching. Both witty and compelling, THE COUNTRY HOUSE provides a piercing look at a family of performers coming to terms with the roles they play in each other’s lives.

March
THE IRISH CURSE a comedy
By Martin Casella

What “The Irish Curse” is – and how it manifests itself – is the raw centerpiece of this wicked, rollicking and very funny new play. From its blistering language to its brutally honest look at sex and body image, The Irish Curse is a revealing portrait of how men, and society, define masculinity. In doing so, it dares to pose the fundamental question that has been on the minds of men since the beginning of time: “Do I measure up to the next guy?” Size matters to a small group of Irish-American men (all professionally successful New Yorkers) who meet every Wednesday night, in a Catholic church basement, at a self-help group for men with less than average “equipment.” **Production contains adult language and themes**

April
WORKING a musical
Book by Stephen Schwartz and Nina Faso
Music by Stephen Schwartz, Craig Carnelia, Micki Grant, Mary Rodgers, Lin-Manuel Miranda and James Taylor
Lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, Craig Carnelia, Micki Grant, James Taylor, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Susan Birkenhead

Based on Studs Terkel’s best-selling book of interviews with American Workers, Working paints a vivid portrait of the men and women the world so often takes for granted: the schoolteacher, the phone operator, the waitress, the millworker, the mason, and the housewife. This new 2012 version of Working is a musical exploration of 26 people from all walks of life. The key is how people’s relationships to their work ultimately reveal key aspects of their humanity, regardless of the trappings of the job itself. The show, still set in contemporary America, contains timeless truths.

May/June
OVER THE TAVERN a comedy
By Tom Dudzick

In that most idealized period of 20th-century America, the Eisenhower years of the 1950s, the Pazinski family has a lot going on in their cramped Buffalo apartment. The youngest of the bunch, 12-year-old Rudy, is a smart, wise-cracking kid who’s starting to question family values and the Roman Catholic Church. When Rudy goes up against the ruler-wielding Sister Clarissa and announces that instead of being confirmed he’d rather shop around for a more “fun” religion, all hell breaks loose. A warm and hilarious look at family, growing up, and God.
