REGIONAL PREMIERE
Detroit ’67
by Dominique Morisseau
March 18-April 5, 2015

Winner of the 2014 Edward M. Kennedy Prize for Drama Inspired by American History
It’s 1967 in Detroit. When their parents died, Chelle and Lank inherited their childhood home. To make ends meet the siblings host “basement parties,” spinning the newest records to come out of Motown, a risky business as police crack down on after-hours joints in black neighborhoods. Always at odds, they fight over the future of the family trade. But when a mysterious white woman finds her way into their care and a string of raids increases police brutality around the city, the siblings become divided over much more than business. Suddenly, they find themselves caught in the middle of the ’67 riots. Detroit ’67 is a tense, entertaining portrayal of the hazards of idealism at the epicenter of a riot.

LCT Celebrates Season Winners

LCT_VWinners of the LCT Awards were announced last night at the League of Cincinnati Theatre’s Awards Party. The theme this year it was Extended Happy Hour, well received by the theatre makers, who enjoyed the focus on fellowship of this industry celebration.

There were a lot of things to be happy for, as theatre representatives and individuals were called to share throughout the night. Costume nominee Ronnie Chamberlain, new this year to Northern Kentucky University, shared how she and her husband chose Cincinnati as a theatre community—over Chicago and other cities—for its vibrant art scene, and as a place to raise a family and actually own a house.
