Presented by Cincinnati Black Theatre Company
Dec. 13-14

BLACK NATIVITY originally performed in 1961, was a celebration of more than just Christmas. BLACK NATIVITY celebrated what happened in Bethlehem some 2,000 years prior with a distinctly African American flavor, bringing to light not only the story of baby Jesus, but the beauty of gospel music and the genius of Hughes.

UTC’s HOUSE OF YES Earns 4-Star LCT Rating

MaryKate Moran as Jackie-O and Christine Dye as Mrs. Pascal.

MaryKate Moran as Jackie-O and Christine Dye as Mrs. Pascal.

Panelists for LCT have recognized the Untethered Theatre Company’s HOUSE OF YES with a 4 star recommendation.

The play is a dark comedy that pries into the lives of the dysfunctional Pascal family. Time seems to have come to a screeching halt for this family with the Kennedy assassination. The story picks up as a Thanksgiving hurricane swirls outside. Jackie-O, beyond obsessed with her namesake, anticipates the homecoming of her brother Marty. But when he arrives with his new fiancé, mayhem ensues.

Panelists described the HOUSE OF YES as “a delightful production of a wicked little play… All five actors did fine work with their eccentric characters, bringing humor and insight into the bizarre twists of Wendy MacLeod’s brilliant dark comedy.”

HOUSE OF YES continues through December 7th. Tickets can be purchased at www.untetheredtheaterco.com.

League of Cincinnati Theatre panelists evaluate productions on a 5 star scale and recommend shows at either a 4 star or 5 star level. Nominations for LCT awards will be determined and announced at the end of the season and winners awarded at the annual LCT gala in the spring.

Playhouse’s COMPLETE HISTORY OF COMEDY (ABRIDGED) Earns 4-Star LCT Rating

The cast of Playhouse in the Park's THE COMPLETE HISTORY OF COMEDY (ABRIDGED).

The cast of Playhouse in the Park’s THE COMPLETE HISTORY OF COMEDY (ABRIDGED).

Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park’s THE COMPLETE HISTORY OF COMEDY (ABRIDGED) has earned a 4-Star Rating from LCT panelists.

The Reduced Shakespeare Company’s latest world premiere, is full of laughs and surrounds (literally) the audience with important history lessons–such as when the “Snakes in a Can” gag was invented.

“They nailed it! It is educational, it is topical and it is funny!” stated one panelist. The entire ensemble was commended (Reed Martin, Austin Tichenor and Dominic Conti): “The energy from these three was contagious, and the audience enjoyed being a part of the show.” Martin and Tichenor were also applauded for their efforts scripting this world premiere. One panelist commented that they are “walking a fine seam between making the audience laugh and also making us analyze, however momentarily, what’s making us laugh.” Another added, “This production is a great reminder that sometimes all you need for great theater is the right words and the right people.”

THE COMPLETE HISTORY OF COMEDY (ABRIDGED) continues through October 29th. Tickets can be purchased at www.cincyplay.com.

HOUSE OF YES Quick-Review

MaryKate Moran as Jackie-O and Christine Dye as Mrs. Pascal.

MaryKate Moran as Jackie-O and Christine Dye as Mrs. Pascal.

HOUSE OF YES presented by Untethered Theater Company through Dec. 7.

The set for HOUSE OF YES was smart and used the space well.  Solid direction by Leah Strasser kept the pacing up and looked natural in the small space. Christine Dye’s gives a fine performance as family matron Mrs. Pascal. Nice work by the rest of the cast, although I felt that some aspects of the Pascal children’s personalities weren’t quite resolved yet.
