NET Announces Auditions for THE SANTALAND DIARIES

THE SANTALAND DIARIES by David Sedaris, as adapted by Joe Mantello

Auditions will be held Thursday October 18 at6 p.m. at the Essex Studios, 2511 Essex Place, Cincinnati, OH 45206.

Actors should prepare one comic monologue and be prepared to read from the script. Actors are urged to be familiar with the scripts prior to auditioning. Scripts can be provided once an audition is scheduled. Please bring a photo/resume.

Character Description:

Crumpet – an out of work slacker that gets a job (on a dare) as a Macy’s elf during the holidays.

Thompson House Hosts Second WordBeat Show

NEWPORT (KY.) – Thompson House Newport – Greater Cincinnati’s live music and creative hub – hosts the second in its monthly series of spoken-word performances, WORDBEAT: A Celebration of Creative Writing.

WORDBEAT runs from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. Thursday, October 18, in the Tommygun Theater at Thompson House, 24 E. 3rd Street in Newport.

Area poet and author Emery Greye (Emery Greye and Friends) serves as emcee for the evening and will read selections from his poetry. Audience members are invited and encouraged to share their poetry as well.

“This kind of program is fairly unique to Greater Cincinnati,” said Cathy Creason, Thompson House artistic director. “We pride ourselves on promoting artistic diversity and are happy to be the home for this kind of original entertainment.”

A Savage walks into a bar. She has a purse full of cash and a consuming need to make a change in her life, starting with the apartment she shares with her mother. At this Bronx bar she’s surrounded by other stunted losers, fellow 32 year olds who peaked long ago. Some of them find freedom at the bottom, while others find they’re still alone. Savage in Limbo is a heartrending dark comedy about unrealized potential and realizing you never had potential to begin with.

The plot unfolds as the handsome Simon Mostyn marries Kay Ridgeway, a very wealthy woman, after breaking his engagement to Jacqueline de Severac, with whom he was in love and who was also Kay’s best friend. The couple are on their honeymoon on a paddle steamer on the Nile. During the course of the voyage, murder and mayhem ensue. By the time the steamer reaches its destination, Canon Pennefather, Kay’s guardian, has laid bare an audacious conspiracy and has ascertained that the criminals shall not go free.
