Award-Winning Film of PICTURES AT AN EXHIBITION Performed Live By Chamber Orchestra I Musici de Montreal

OXFORD, Ohio – I Musici de Montréal will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27th at Hall Auditorium, Miami University, Oxford, Ohio in a concert that features the Mussorgsky classic “Pictures at an Exhibition” in a production traveling with the award-winning film of choreographed surreal paintings by Natasha Turvosky.

I Musici de Montréal, known for its gutsy and passionate music-making, has a well-deserved reputation as one of the world’s finest chamber orchestras. Since its founding in 1983, the orchestra’s more than forty recordings have been distributed in 48 countries around the world. They have been awarded many honors, including “Best Chamber Ensemble of the Year” in addition to Fanfare magazine’s recent praise of “one of the best chamber orchestras in North America.”

Ballet of the Unhatched Chicks.

The centerpiece of this towering program features the Mussorgsky classic with digitally animated projections of the fifteen large-scale paintings by Natasha Turovosky. The film, co-created with digital animator Gael Hollard, is featured on-stage via large screen projection above the orchestra and has left audiences speechless. In 2007, the film won an Excellence in Cinema Award at the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival.

Natasha Turovsky is an acclaimed artist whose work has been seen in solo exhibitions around the world. Her work has been commissioned by diverse requests from record labels, chamber music ensembles, and more. Among the major press generated by her remarkable paintings is a new BRAVO Documentary, “Pictures at a Concert”, and honors for the choreographed paintings at several film festivals.

Program:
Aziz Shokhakimov, Guest Conductor
Special Project with film: Natasha Turovsky’s Award-Winning Film of Pictures at an Exhibition
Janacek String Quartet No. 1, “Kreutzer Sonata”
Shostakovich Chamber Symphony op. 110a

I Musici de Montréal is presented by the Miami University Performing Arts Series and sponsored by Gil & Joyce Gordon and the Havigurst Center for Russian and Post-Soviet Studies with media partners 88.5 WMUB, 91.7 WVXU. Tickets are $18 for adults, $17 for senior citizens, and $9 for students and youth.
