Based on a true story, this haunting opera tells the tale of the Carmelite Nuns, a small order put to death during the French Revolution. The fictional Parisian aristocrat Blanche de la Force attempts to find refuge with the nuns, setting the stage for a psychological study of devotion in the face of terror. Sung in French with English supertitles.

A young woman from another world is sent to earth to see what it is like to be human. In Strindberg’s A Dream Play, written in 1901, the playwright has sought to imitate the disconnected but apparently logical form of a dream. Anything can happen, everything is possible and plausible. Time and space do not exist. Using the backdrop of real-life events, Strindberg spins new patterns of memories, experiences, inventions and absurdities all in the quest to discover if life is really worth living. 100 minutes, no intermission.

Two brothers set out to write the world’s first musical in this hilarious mash-up of 16th-century Shakespeare and 21st-century Broadway. Nick and Nigel Bottom are desperate to write a hit play but are stuck in the shadow of that Renaissance rock star known as “The Bard.” When a local soothsayer foretells that the future of theatre involves singing, dancing and acting at the same time, Nick and Nigel write the world’s very first musical. But amidst the scandalous excitement of opening night, the Bottom Brothers realize that reaching the top means being true to thine own self, and all that jazz.

30 YEARS OF STEPHEN Brings Broadway to CCM on Sept. 23

CCM_30 Years of Stephen logoUC’s College-Conservatory of Music is thrilled to present a spectacular evening of music and stories, featuring our incredible students and a sampling of CCM’s most notable alumni. Join us for a front-row seat to the world premiere of 30 Years of Stephen: The Music of Stephen Flaherty at 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23, 2022 in Corbett Auditorium. Tickets are on sale now through the UC Foundation website.

Hosted by CCMpower, the fundraising event features the music of CCM alumnus and Tony award winning Broadway composer, Stephen Flaherty (BM Composition, ’82). Directed by award-winning director and choreographer Marcia Milgrom Dodge, the performance features CCM students with alumni and Broadway stars Christy Altomare (BFA Musical Theatre, ’08), Ashley Brown (BFA Musical Theatre, ’04), Jason Graae (BFA Musical Theatre, ’80), Bryonha Marie (Broadway guest artist), Stephanie Jae Park (BFA Musical Theatre, ’14), Alton Fitzgerald White (Musical Theatre, att. 1983-86) and other surprise guests.

The evening will end on a high note with the premiere of two never before heard compositions — one of which will be performed live on the Corbett Auditorium stage by Stephen Flaherty himself! View the full program below!

The Music of Stephen Flaherty event will replace Moveable Feast for the 2022-23 academic year. Moveable Feast will return in person on Friday, January 19, 2024. The Music of Stephen Flaherty event was originally conceptualized and developed by the following CCM alumni, without whom this performance would not be possible: David Goldsmith (BFA Musical Theatre, ’85), Kevin McCollum (BFA Musical Theatre, ’84; HonDoc, ’05), Jeff Saver (BM Piano, ’79) and Jim Semmelman (BFA Musical Theatre, ’76).

Please note: Our original announcement included CCM alum Aaron Lazar as a guest artist, but he unfortunately cannot make it due to a scheduling conflict.

Considered by many to be the most charming musical ever written, She Loves Me is a warm romantic comedy with an endearing innocence and a touch of old-world elegance. Based on a play that inspired the beloved film You’ve Got Mail, the musical shares an enemies-to-lovers story about two shop clerks who normally don’t get along — until they begin an anonymous love letter exchange after they respond to a lonely-hearts ad in the newspaper.
