Auditions Announced for THE TRIAL OF EBENEZER SCROOGE at Troy Civic Theatre

TROY_logoThe trial of the century!! A year after his miraculous transformation, Ebenezer Scrooge is back to his old ways. He is suing Jacob Marley, the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future, for breaking and entering, kidnapping, slander, pain and suffering, attempted murder, and the intentional infliction of emotional distress. The Ghosts employ Solomon Rothschild, England’s most charismatic, savvy, and clever barrister. Scrooge, that old penny-pincher, represents himself. What could go wrong?

Auditions are Monday and Tuesday, October 3 and 4, at 7:00 pm at the Barn in the Park.

Director Don Campbell is seeking actors for the following (some parts might be doubled, or gender-swapped):

  • Mr. Connally – the Bailiff, male, age 25 +, comedic guy who really runs the courtroom under the Judge’s
    thumb, somewhat physical role
  • Judge Stanchfield R. Pearson – male, 45 +, curmudgeon, set in his ways, not a lover of Christmas
  • Solomon Rothschild – male, age variable, solicitor, champion for the underdog, charming
  • Ebenezer Scrooge – male, 50 +, grumpy tightwad who has a fool for a client-himself
  • Bob Cratchit – male, 35 +, goodhearted assistant to Scrooge, a poor family man
  • Mrs. Cratchit – female, 35 +, Bob’s long-suffering wife
Fred – Scrooge’s nephew, male, age variable, kind-hearted people person
  • Sarah Wainwright – female, age variable, do-gooder for a local charity
  • Jacob Marley – male, age 45 +, dead 7 years, he is the ghost who started all the trouble
  • Ghost of Christmas Past – female, age variable, light-hearted bearer of good cheer
  • Fan -female, age 20-25, Scrooge’s loving sister
  • Belle – female, age 18-30, Scrooge’s one and only true love, when he was a young man
  • Mrs. Dilber -female, age variable, Cockney accent, charwoman employed by Scrooge
  • Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come -male, age 50 +, non-speaking, yet very vocal-this role will be a challenge
  • Translator – female, age 60+, Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come’s interpreter (as he doesn’t speak English), sweet and helpful

Audition Requirements: Cold readings from the script, British accents will be used for this production (so please come prepared to demonstrate your best British accent-it does not need to be perfect-just need to see what you can do)

The show will be presented December 2-4, 9-11, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 pm and Sundays at 2:00 pm.

THE TRIAL OF EBENEZER SCROOGE is written by Mark Brown and is being presented by special arrangement through Dramatic Publishing.

This English farce is set shortly after the end of World War II in the living room of the vicarage belonging to Penelope Topp, in the fictitious village Merton-cum-Middlewick. Penelope is an American former actress and now wife of the local vicar, the Rev. Lionel Toop. When the vicar leaves for the night, an old friend of Penelope’s, Lance-Corporal Clive Winton, stops by on a quick visit. To dodge army regulations while out on the town, he changes from his uniform into Lionel’s second-best suit, complete with a clerical dog-collar. Then Lionel, arriving back, is knocked silly by a Russian escaped from the local Army base, who takes the vicar’s clothes as a disguise. Add to the confusion a feisty cockney maid, the local busybody getting drunk for the first time, and both Penelope’s uncle, the Bishop of Lax, and Aurther Humphrey, a visiting vicar, unexpectedly showing up early. Chaos quickly ensues, culminating in a cycle of running figures and mistaken identities.

Auditions Announced for SEE HOW THEY RUN at Troy Civic Theatre

TROY_logoDirector Michael Schumacher is seeking three women and six men for the Philip King comedy, SEE HOW THEY RUN.

Aug. 1 & 2 from 7-8:30pm
Troy Civic Theatre – 76 Adams Street

SEE HOW THEY RUN is an English farce set shortly after the end of World War II in the living room of the vicarage belonging to Penelope Topp, in the fictitious village Merton-cum-Middlewick.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS:

  • Penelope Toop: Former American actress, now married to the vicar. Fun loving and eager to please; willing to have some adventure.
  • Ida: A cockney maid who has seen too many American movies, fun, flirty character with attitude.
  • Miss Skillon: A busybody churchgoer of the parish, pops in often to complain to the vicar about the latest ‘outrages’ that Penelope has caused.
  • The Reverend Lionel Toop: Vicar of a small parish in England. Although a bit stuffy, he did marry Penelope!
  • Corporal Clive Winton: An American soldier stationed in England. “Friend” of Penelope’s and former cast member in a touring show.
  • The Bishop of Lax: Penelope’s Uncle. A rather sedate, conservative member of the clergy.
  • The Man: Russian spy escaped prisoner from nearby military base.
  • The Reverend Arthur Humphrey: A docile clergy man coming to visit.
  • Sergeant Towers: A cockney Army Sergeant in search of the escaped prisoner.

Plan to read from the script and be prepared to list all your time conflicts between August 4th and October 9th. This is a fast paced comedy so come with energy and be prepared to move.

Experienced actors/actresses and first-timers welcome! Helpers are also needed for the production crew: set building, set painting, props, costumes, make-up/hair, publicity, and more.

Performances will be September 30th, October 1st, 2nd, 7th, 8th and 9th. Fridays and Saturdays are at 8:00 pm and Sundays at 2:00 pm.
