Scripts will be available for the cast in late August so the cast can begin working on memorization before rehearsals begin.

CASTING REQUIREMENTS:

4 MEN, 3 WOMEN

CAST OF CHARACTERS

PAIGE CALDWELL, female, 20s to 30s. A professional pollster. A smart, confident women with a professional’s view of politics: she sees it as a series of contests to be won.

DAVE RILEY, male, 30s to 40s. The Chief of Staff of the new Governor. Very smart, but – despite years of experience in government – endearingly earnest and naïve on the subject of politics.

LOUISE PEAKES, female, 30’s to 50s. A temporary employess hired as the Governor’s executive assistant. Personable, likable, impressively confident, and entirely inept. Without knowing it, she has the air of a politician about her.

NED NEWLY, male, 50s to 60. The new Governor. A person of impressive ability, but a complete lack of confidence. A man waiting permission to enter a room in which he is already standing.

ARTHUR VANCE, male, 50s to 60. One of the most experienced and successful political consultants in the country. His overbearing personality, and confidence in his own opinions over the opinions of others, should make him dislikable, but his ego is more than tempered by the joy –even glee—he brings into the room.

RACHEL PARSONS, female, 30s. A TV reporter. She has the looks to be an on-air correspondent – though, if television had never been invented, she still would be a journalist. Straight forward, honest, and somewhat cynical.

A.C. PETERSON, male, 30s to 50s. A TV camera man. A quiet, working man with a low tolerance for idiocy.

Auditions Announced for THE MUSICAL OF MUSICALS: THE MUSICAL at Sunset Players

SSP_logoSunset Players announces AUDITIONS for THE MUSICAL OF MUSICALS: THE MUSICAL!
If you are a fan of Schmigadoon and Schmicago, you will love this show!

Sunset Players gleefully announce auditions for THE MUSICAL OF MUSICALS: THE MUSICAL.  This fun spoof of classic musicals will be directed and choreographed by Dennis Murphy. MUSICAL direction will be by Linda Abbott.

Auditions will take place at 7:00 p.m. on June 27 and 29 at the Arts Center at Dunham, 1945 Dunham Way, 45238. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

Auditionees are asked to prepare 16 bars of two contrasting songs from musicals written prior to 1980.  There will be a brief dance audition as well.

In THE MUSICAL OF MUSICALS: THE MUSICAL, the cast takes the basic plotline of a melodrama and performs it “in the style of” five different composers/composing teams: Rogers and Hammerstein, Stephen Sondheim, Andrew Lloyd Weber, Jerry Herman and Kander and Ebb.  Each short musical, melds characters and plotlines from the composer’s shows together as the cast performs the same basic plot employing songs “in the style of” the composer’s shows.  (Example: In the Rogers and Hammerstein spoof called Corn, a Curly-like character sings a song that reminds you of Oh, What a Beautiful Morning and another one that is like Soliloquy from Carousel.)

The cast will consist of four leading roles and a small ensemble, although some flexibility in casting is possible. The whole cast must be able to sing in different musical theater styles, as well as, possess a strong sense of comedy.  The ability to dance in different styles is also a plus.

Lead roles include:

  • A soprano who could play roles like Laurie in Oklahoma, but also Evita in Evita!
  • A tenor who could play roles like Curley in Oklahoma, but also the MC in Cabaret.
  • A mezzo-soprano who can play Aunt Eller in Oklahoma and/or Dolly Levi or Mame.
  • A baritone who could play Jud in Oklahoma but also The Phantom of the Opera and Sweeney Todd.

The director also hopes to cast 3-6 ensemble members who will support the leading roles by appearing as townsfolk, party goers, apartment residents, peasants, aristocrats and even jailhouse songbirds.

You can sign up for an audition slot at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0a44afa62baaf58-sunset1#/

Performances of THE MUSICAL OF MUSICALS: THE MUSICAL will be October 20-29. Rehearsals will begin in late August/early September.  Rehearsals and performances will be held at the Arts Center at Dunham.
