2016-2017 Season Announced by SSCC Theatre

SSCC_logoSSCC Theatre’s Thirteenth Season brings something completely different to the table than in years past. This year, the fall production will consist of a totally female cast, while the spring production will be all male. Come summer 2017, the sexes once again join forces for a wild and romping musical. Season tickets for SSCC Theatre’s Thirteenth Season go on sale July 22, with tickets for the set of three shows starting at $21. The schedule for the season is:

The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe,” by Jane Wagner. Lily Tomlin’s one woman tour-de-force won The New York Drama Desk Award and The New York Drama Critics Circle Award as well as a Tony for Best Actress. The play quickly introduces us to Trudy, who takes us, along with her two alien companions, on a discovery trip to find out what it means to be human and imparting her own impressions on life. Trudy introduces us to many people, ranging from Agnus Angst, a 15-year-old punk performance artist; Agnus’ grandparents Lud and Marie; Chrissy, a recently unemployed workout enthusiast; Lily, an actress currently performing a one-woman show; and many others. “The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe” opens the season November 4 – 6, 2016.

Waiting for Godot,” by Samuel Beckett. Two dilapidated bums fill their days as painlessly as they can. They wait for Godot, a personage who will explain their interminable insignificance, or put an end to it. They are resourceful, with quarrels and their dependence on each other, as children are. They pass the time ‘which would have passed anyway.’ A brutal man of means comes by, leading a weakling slave who does his bidding like a mechanical doll. Later on he comes back, blind, and his slave is mute, but the relationship is unchanged. Every day a child comes from the unknown Godot, and evasively puts the big arrival off until tomorrow…It is a tragic view. Yet, in performance, most of it is brilliant, bitter comedy…It is a portrait of the dogged resilience of a man’s spirit in the face of little hope. “Waiting for Godot” runs April 7 – 9, 2017.

The Rocky Horror Show,” by Richard O’Brien. One fateful night, Brad Majors and his fiancée, Janet Weiss — a wholesome, well-behaved, utterly normal young couple in love — innocently set out to visit an old professor. Unfortunately for them, this night out is destined to be one they will never forget. A thunderstorm and a flat-tire force them to seek help at the castle of Dr. Frank ’N’ Furter, an alien, transvestite scientist with a manic genius and insatiable libido. Brad, Janet, and Frank’ N’ Furter’s cohorts are swept up into the scientist’s latest experiment. The night’s misadventures will cause Brad and Janet to question everything they’ve known about themselves, each other, love, and lust. A loving homage to the classic B sci-fi film and horror genres with an irresistible rock n’ roll score, “The Rocky Horror Show” is a hilarious, wild ride that no audience will soon forget. “The Rocky Horror Show” closes the season July 21 – 23, 2017.
