SCT_logoAnnouncing Springboro Community Theatre auditions for [title of show].

Music and Lyrics By Jeff Bowen
Book By Hunter Bell

Auditions: 7pm on Monday, March 3, 2020 and Tuesday, March 4, 2020
Callbacks: 7pm on Tuesday, March 4, 2020 or Wednesday, March 5, 2020

Springboro Community Theatre
115 Wright Station Way, Suite 3, Springboro, Ohio 45066

*Depending on size of initial audition pool. In the past, the director has found it to be a quicker and more fluid process if those who would get a call back from the first night are able to come to the 2nd half of the second night. This is only a possibility, and will not occur if all called back cannot come.

Tech Week: Monday-Thursday, April 20-23, 2020
Performances: April 24-26 and May 1-3 (Fri/Sat @ 8pm – Sun @ 2pm)

Director: Aaron Eechaute-Lopez
Music Director: Judy Mansky

Synopsis:
Jeff and Hunter, two struggling writers, hear about a new musical theatre festival. However, the deadline for submissions is a mere three weeks away. With nothing to lose, the pair decides to try to create something new with the help of their friends Susan, Heidi and Larry on the eighty-eights. [title of show] follows Hunter and Jeff and their friends on their journey through the gauntlet of creative self-expression. In the span of 90 minutes they write and perform their show at the festival and learn lessons about themselves as people, friends and artists. [title of show] is, above all, a love letter to the musical theatre — a uniquely American art form — and to the joy of collaboration.

Audition information:
Initial auditions will take place on March 2nd and 3rd from 7pm-10pm at the Springboro Performing Arts Center at 115 Wright Station Way. Auditioners should prepare between 16 and 32 measures of a musical theatre song befitting the vocal range and personality of the role(s) you are auditioning for. Please have sheet music of your audition song. Karaoke tracks are allowed as we will have a bluetooth speaker for you, but they can often lead to technical difficulties. Have a backup plan!

There will be cold readings and improv exercises after the singing portion of the audition.

If called back, auditioners will receive a cut of a song from the character(s) they are being called back for. Auditioners will be dismissed as soon as they are able, but callbacks may go as late as 10:00 pm.

*Please do not come to both nights of auditions as this will take time away from others. If there is a reason you are unable to come to callbacks, we can discuss whether or not you are needed to come for the second night of auditions.

If you have any questions about auditions, please contact the director, Aaron Eechaute-Lopez (eechautelopez@gmail.com).

Below is a breakdown of the character/roles. The age range is what age the character should look, not the age the actor must be.

Jeff: (M)
Mid- to late 30s; tenor/bari-tenor (C3-G4); the show’s composer, a Broadway enthusiast who especially likes obscure musicals and collects Playbills from shows that ran 50 performances or less; loves bird watching, computer games, and comic book heroes (especially Wonder Woman); a realist; while he has a great passion for creating, he worries about what others will think of his work.

Hunter: (M)
Mid- to late 30s; high tenor (C3-B5 in full voice); writes the book for the musical; dreams about making it to Broadway and one day winning a Tony Award; enjoys watching trashy reality television and 1980s’ mega musicals; gets sweaty under his left armpit when nervous, and is often a little too eager to please.

Heidi: (F)
Mid- to late 30s; mezzo/alto with a strong, high belt as well as good projection of lower notes (F3-F#5 in belt); Jeff’s friend; “uptown and fancy and Brooklyn”; has Broadway experience but still wants to make it big; grew up listening to cast recordings and has made performing her life’s work; reluctant at first about being friends with the new girl, Susan.

Susan: (F)
Mid- to late 30s; alto with strong belt as well as good projection of lower notes (F3-C5 in belt); Hunter’s friend; “downtown and funky and sassy”; truly an individual; an artist who portrays the reality for many in the performing arts industry, maintaining a day job to support her artistic endeavors; enjoys turkey burgers and encouraging others to achieve their creative potential (aka killing vampires); has some doubts about her singing ability and is, at first, reluctant about being friends with the new girl, Heidi.

ALMOST, MAINE Runs Feb. 28-March 8

SCT_Almost Maine logoALMOST, MAINE
Springboro Community Theatre
Feb. 28-March 8
Springboro Performing Arts Center

Cast: Derek Stidham as Pete/Jimmy/Dave, Dan Eaglin as Steve/Man, Mark Reuter as East/Randy/Lendall/Phil, Matthew Barnard as Chad, Carly Wheeler as Ginnette/Sandrine/Hope, Christina Harris as Glory/Marvalyn, Katie McCoy as Gayle/Marci & Allie Staples as Waitress/Rhonda

A woman carries her heart, broken into nineteen pieces, in a small paper bag. A man shrinks to half his former size, after losing hope in love. A couple keep the love they have given each other in large red bags, or compress the mass into the size of a diamond. These playful and surreal experiences are commonplace in the world of John Cariani’s ALMOST, MAINE, where on one deeply cold and magical Midwinter Night, the citizens of Almost — not organized enough for a town, too populated for a wilderness — experience the life-altering power of the human heart. Relationships end, begin, or change beyond recognition, as strangers become friends, friends become lovers, and lovers turn into strangers. Propelled by the mystical energy of the aurora borealis and populated with characters who are humorous, plain-spoken, thoughtful, and sincere, ALMOST, MAINE is a series of loosely connected tales about love, each with a compelling couple at its center, each with its own touch of sorcery.

Springboro Community Theatre Present CHARLOTTE’S WEB

SCT_Charlottes WebSpringboro, OH – The Children’s Literature Association named this “the best American children’s book of the past two hundred years,” and Joseph Robinette, working with the advice of E.B. White, has created a play that captures this work in a thrilling and utterly practical theatrical presentation.

All the enchanting characters are here: Wilbur, the irresistible young pig who desperately wants to avoid the butcher; Fern, a girl who understands what animals say to each other; Templeton, the gluttonous rat who can occasionally be talked into a good deed; the Zuckerman family; the Arables; and, most of all, the extraordinary spider, Charlotte, who proves to be “a true friend and a good writer.”

Determined to save Wilbur, Charlotte begins her campaign with the “miracle” of her web in which she writes, “Some pig.” It’s the beginning of a victorious campaign which ultimately ends with the now-safe Wilbur doing what is most important to Charlotte. This is a beautiful, knowing play about friendship.

Charlotte’s Web is a youth production and will be performed in the Premier Health Theatre at the Springboro Performing Arts Center.

Director Mark Goodwin and Assistant Director Alli Brown have gathered a talented group of youth performers to bring this classic tale to the stage. Get your tickets today to see how “with the right words, you can change the world” at BoroTheatre.org!
