The Passing of Pat Furterer

-From Loveland Stage Company

LSC_Pat FurtererIn loving memory of Pat Furterer

525,600 minutes. 525,600 moments so dear. 525,600 minutes – How do you measure, measure a year?

Today we remember all of the minutes, moments, and years of the life of our beloved founder Pat Furterer. There will be many tributes to Pat over the next few days, weeks, months, and years for Pat, as she was the epitome of Loveland. This is ours.

In 1979, Pat and a creative group of friends saw the need for a creative outlet in Loveland and decided to create what is now known as the Loveland Stage Company. Under Pat’s leadership, they created the by-laws and constitution and formed the board of directors. They filed all the needed paperwork for LSC to become the non-profit organization many have come to know and love today.

A local business donated funds for the first production in the fall of 1979. That performance of My Three Angels was performed on the back deck at Pat’s house. It was a great success and the start of it all.

Pat was instrumental in all things LSC. She performed, directed, produced, and held various positions on the board. Throughout the 1980s, LSC shows moved around from her backyard to various schools throughout Loveland. In the 90’s she helped create a college scholarship for graduating high school seniors interested in pursuing the Creative Arts. That scholarship continues to this day.

In the early 2000s, she was instrumental in working with the Loveland Firefighters Association allowing the Loveland Stage Company to have a permanent space and LSC moved into our current home, the old Crist Theater, in the heart of Historic Loveland. When a fire broke out in the theater in October 2008, the building was a total loss. Pat led the charge to raise funds to rebuild. And rebuild we did. “Rebuild and Play On!” was the theme of the next season and the theater reopened in November of 2009.

With the theater back up and running, Pat was named President Emeritus for all of her past, present, and future contributions to LSC.

44 years and counting of Award-Winning Theater in Loveland is all thanks to Pat Furterer. She dedicated her life to LSC and we will be eternally grateful to her and her passion for theater and Loveland. The lights on the marquee will be a little dimmer without Pat, but we will always do our best to make her proud.

It’s time now to sing out, though the story never ends. Let’s celebrate, and remember a year in the life of friends. Remember the love! Measure in love. Seasons of love!

THE RED VELVET CAKE WAR at Loveland Stage Company

LSC_The Red Velvet Cake WarIn this riotously funny Southern-fried comedy, the three Verdeen cousins—Gaynelle, Peaches, and Jimmie Wyvette—could not have picked a worse time to throw their family reunion. Their outrageous antics have delighted local gossips in the small town of Sweetgum (just down the road from Fayro) and the eyes of Texas are upon them, as their self-righteous Aunt LaMerle is quick to point out.

Having “accidentally” crashed her minivan through the bedroom wall of her husband’s girlfriend’s doublewide, Gaynelle is one frazzled nerve away from a spectacular meltdown.

Peaches, a saucy firebrand and the number one mortuarial cosmetologist in the tri-county area, is struggling to decide if it’s time to have her long-absent trucker husband declared dead.

And Jimmie Wyvette, the rough-around-the-edges store manager of Whatley’s Western Wear, is resorting to extreme measures to outmaneuver a priss-pot neighbor for the affections of Sweetgum’s newest widower.

But the cousins can’t back out of the reunion now. It’s on, Gaynelle’s hosting it, and Peaches and Jimmie Wyvette have decided that its success is the perfect way to prove Gaynelle’s sanity to a skeptical court-appointed psychologist. Unfortunately, they face an uphill battle as a parade of wildly eccentric Verdeens gathers on the hottest day of July, smack-dab in the middle of Texas tornado season.

Things spin hilariously out of control when a neighbor’s pet devours everything edible, a one-eyed suitor shows up to declare his love, and a jaw-dropping high-stakes wager is made on who bakes the best red velvet cake. As this fast-paced romp barrels toward its uproarious climax, you’ll wish your own family reunions were this much fun!

Auditions Announced for CRAB CAKES AND MURDER at Loveland Stage Company

LSC_logoLSC is partnering with NEST’s Murder Mystery Fundraiser on April 12th, 2024. The play we are casting is called CRAB CAKES AND MURDER by Micheal Druce. [Produced by special arrangement with Pioneer Drama Service, Denver, Colorado.]

Auditions will be held Sunday, Feb 18th from 6 – 9 pm, and will consist of cold readings from the script. No preparation necessary.

Location: Loveland Stage Company – 111 S 2nd St. (Rt 48), Loveland, Ohio 45140

Summary:
During a surprise storm, Captain Savage Raines goes missing at sea.  The wreckage of the Half Shell is found, but with no sign of the commercial fisherman, Sheriff Sandy Shoals assumes Captain Raines is dead.  That wouldn’t be a surprise considering what a hateful codger he was.  After all, who else would name his twin daughters Misery and Calamity?!

The sheriff finds the incident especially curious since the shipwreck was just a day after Savage announced his retirement and revealed plans to divvy up Peg Legg Seafoods.  And since those business plans minimized his wife Peggy’s role in the company and largely cut out the rest of the family with the exception of his bootlicking twin daughters, everyone had a motive for sabotage.

Reeling in audience members to help sift through the evidence, Sheriff Shoals casts a wide net to try to catch the guilty party.

Cast of Characters:

  • DUNGENESS CRABBE ……….Captain Savage Raines’s sister; married to Stone Crabbe; well-meaning but whiny
  • PEGGY LEGG-RAINES ………..Captain Raines’s wife; sardonic and straightforward; all business
  • STONE CRABBE……………….the captain’s brother-in-law; clueless owner of Crabbe’s Crab Cakes
  • DECADENCE RAINES ………..youngest daughter of Peggy and Savage Raines; independent, matter-of-fact, and honest to a fault
  • C.D. LAWYER ………………….shady attorney and chairman of the board of directors for Peg Legg Seafoods
  • SHERIFF SANDY SHOALS …..new to the job; nobody’s fool
  • CALAMITY RAINES ……………another Raines daughter; selfish and shallow; Misery’s fraternal twin
  • MISERY RAINES ………………another daughter; superficial and self-centered; Calamity’s fraternal twin
  • CAPTAIN SAVAGE RAINES …..family patriarch; owner of Peg Legg Seafoods
  • HUMP DAY ……………………..mysterious harbormaster
