Sherlock Holmes has never shied away from danger, but his latest adventure may be his most treacherous ever! The members of London’s Suicide Club play a harrowing game of Russian roulette to determine their role as victim or executioner. When the brilliant sleuth finds himself entangled in their secretive web, his own life hangs in the balance … and it’s not clear whether he wants to be saved. The game’s afoot for the world’s favorite detective in this electrifying new whodunit. Advisory: Appropriate for adults and young people ages 12 and up. Lois Rosenthal, (nee Reis), age 75, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2014. Beloved wife of Richard H. Rosenthal, devoted mother of Jenny (Allan) Berliant and David S. Rosenthal, dear sister of Harvey (Mary) Reis, loving grandmother of Elizabeth & Andrew Berliant and Eva & Mae Rosenthal.

Memorial services Monday, September 15, 4:30 PM in the Marx Theater at The Playhouse in the Park, 962 Mt. Adams Circle, Cincinnati, OH 45202.

PIP(CINCINNATI) – Single tickets for all 2014-15 season shows at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park will go on sale Monday, Aug. 4. This includes tickets for the Playhouse’s beloved annual holiday classic A CHRISTMAS CAROL, presented by U.S. Bank.

Set in beautiful Eden Park, Ohio’s only Tony Award-winning theatre boasts a national reputation for excellence, bringing the same actors, directors and designers seen on Broadway, off-Broadway and at other leading professional theatres across the country to Cincinnati. A Playhouse season offers something for everyone, from contemporary theatre and Broadway hits to musicals, classics and world premieres. The 55th season includes:

  • The electrifying season opener, Jeffrey Hatcher’s SHERLOCK HOLMES AND THE ADVENTURE OF THE SUICIDE CLUB, featuring Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s iconic sleuth in a new whodunit based on a Robert Louis Stevenson short story.
  • An exciting, suspenseful world premiere, SAFE HOUSE, inspired by the ancestors of Cincinnati native playwright Keith Josef Adkins, who were free people of color in antebellum Kentucky.
  • Recent Broadway smash hit VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE by Christopher Durang, the “deliriously funny” winner of the 2013 Tony Award for best play.
  • PETER AND THE STARCATCHER, the magical, family-friendly Peter Pan prequel that hooked five Tony Awards.
  • Inspiring tributes to two musical legends — TENDERLY: THE ROSEMARY CLOONEY MUSICAL, chronicling America’s favorite girl singer from her Cincinnati childhood and Hollywood stardom to triumphant comeback; and RING OF FIRE: THE MUSIC OF JOHNNY CASH, directed by and featuring Jason Edwards, who starred in the show on Broadway.
  • Four exciting contemporary plays in the Thompson Shelterhouse.

New for the upcoming season is Sunday College Night, with tickets to all 7 p.m. Sunday performances (not including A Christmas Carol) priced at just $10 with a valid student ID. Student tickets are just $15 on the day of the show for all other performances. All Marx Theatre price zones are available in the lower level, with individual tickets starting at just $30.

Patrons also can subscribe to all five Marx Theatre or five Thompson Shelterhouse productions for as little as $150 or build their own series of four or more shows from either theatre.

PIP Summer Theatre Day Camp Offers Entertaining Educational Opportunities

OFFERS ENTERTAINING EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

PIP(CINCINNATI) – Even with summer break on the horizon, it’s not too late to introduce young theatre fans to the engaging, entertaining and educational opportunities at the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park’s 2014 Summer Theatre Day Camp, June 16 to Aug. 1.

Cincinnati’s Tony Award-winning theatre offers camp sessions in a new format this year for children entering grades three through 12. The full-day, one-week camp sessions run from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and each week’s session features acting and improvisation classes along with special classes based on different themes. The themes include: Broadway Bound (musical theatre), June 16-20; Theatre FUNdamentals (various theatre classes), June 23-27; Shakespeare & Swashbuckling (including stage combat and puppetry), July 7-11; Story to the Stage (theatrical improvisation, playwriting), July 14-18; La Commedia (circus training, clowning and comedy), July 21-25; and Backstage Pass (stage craft and design techniques), July 28-Aug. 1.

Parents can select the theme that interests their campers most or join us for multiple weeks and try them all. All experience levels are welcome. Classes are taught by the city’s best theatre professionals.

One-week, half-day Creative Dramatics camps are offered for children entering grades one and two (9 a.m. to noon or 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., depending on the week chosen).

Register now for the best prices and for best availability. The Early Bird Special is $285 per full-day camp session, and $175 per Creative Dramatics session. Beginning June 2, each full-day camp session will cost $350 and each Creative Dramatics session will cost $225.

Playhouse Will Sell Furniture, Props, Dresses and More in Popular Scenery Shop Sale June 7

PIP_logo(CINCINNATI) – It’s garage sale season, and the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park will offer its unique take on the tradition with a sale of props, furniture, dresses and more from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 7, at the Playhouse’s Scenery Shop, which is located at 2827 Gilbert Ave. (across from Thomson-MacConnell Cadillac).

Sale items from the theatre’s storage vaults include distinctive pieces from Playhouse productions, such as the glass-topped platform coffee table from this season’s A DELICATE SHIP, two bus station-style benches and the ticket booth from THE TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL, a blue wooden pedestal table and four chairs from THUNDER KNOCKING ON THE DOOR and a gaming chair from LEVELING UP. Also included are a china hutch from DEAD ACCOUNTS, two claw-footed ottomans from THE FALL OF HEAVEN, the iconic bathtub from BEHIND THE EYE, a chair and chaise longue from SPEAKING IN TONGUES, white and red area rugs from AS YOU LIKE IT and the “Skip’s” surfboard bar sign from HIDING BEHIND COMETS.

Additionally, the sale will feature a selection of china and glassware, a matching set of four dining chairs and various single chairs, several pedestal tables and office desks, bookshelves and cabinets, end tables, a library cabinet, a metal drafting table, area rugs, throw pillows and chair cushions, several ladders, a concrete cherub planter and other miscellaneous items, including spools of ribbon and trim.

There will also be a collection of 20th-century day dresses, along with some formal dresses and fabric yardage, from the Playhouse’s Costume Shop.

Prices will range from $1 each for glassware and china; $5 and up for dresses, pillows and chair cushions; to $10 and up for furniture items. Fabric pieces and bolts will be sold in their entirety, and ribbon and trim will be sold for $2 per bagful. All items will be sold “as is.”

Payment is by cash or check only. All proceeds will benefit the Playhouse, a not-for-profit organization. All sales are final, and all items must be taken on the day of the sale.
