Based on the writings of award-winning columnist and commentator, Kathy Y. Wilson, YOUR NEGRO TOUR GUIDE is a provocative, solo performance piece on identity in modern America. Through scathing and thoughtful rants, letters, music and nightmares, actress Torie Wiggins steers us through the modern American landscape of race, gender, and class.

Torie Wiggins has been performing since the age of two. She graduated from University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music with a BFA in Dramatic Performance. Her directing/dramaturgy credits include RELATIONSHIPS IN BLACK, and four one-woman shows that she also wrote and produced across the country including TORIE ON ICE and YOUR NEGRO TOUR GUIDE, both directed by Jeff Griffin. Currently residing in New York, she has appeared on ALL MY CHILDREN, the feature film LOVE ME THROUGH IT and her voice can be heard on national television and radio commercials. She has appeared in several shows in Know Theatre’s 2011-2012 season including ABRAHAM LINCOLN’S BIG GAY DANCE PARTY, COLLAPSE, AFGHAN WOMEN’S WRITING PROJECT, and is currently appearing in BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON.

Know Theatre of Cincinnati Announces Return of MISS MAGNOLIA BEAUMONT GOES TO PROVINCETOWN

Hit performer from the 2011 Cincinnati Fringe Festival returns to Cincinnati

Joe Hutcheson.

Know Theatre is pleased to announce that Joe Hutcheson will be returning to Cincinnati to present MISS MAGNOLIA BEAUMONT GOES TO PROVINCETOWN. The production received the Critics’ Pick of the Fringe Award at the 2011 Cincinnati Fringe Festival and played to sold out houses during its run. MISS MAGNOLIA will be performed at Know Theatre on January 13 & 14, 2012 at 8pm.

Southern debutante Miss Magnolia Beatrice Devareux Beaumont has choked to death on the meat of a pork rib, only to find herself suddenly inhabiting the body of a thirty-something, gay New Yorker (to whom she refers as Master Joseph) on his way to Provincetown, Massachusetts for a birthday vacation. But before Miss Beaumont can quietly get used to Master Joseph’s cosmopolitan, gay lifestyle, an offensive painting suddenly jolts her into his awareness. After the initial shock and a few disagreements, the two spend the rest of their trip discussing the deeper meanings of life, why they were brought together, and why a simple kite can be such a magical thing. More than a monologue, Miss Magnolia Beaumont Goes to Provincetown is a modern comic fantasy celebrating the beauty and magic of P-town.

“What counts is not the unlikely starting point, but how one develops and delivers from the unreasonable setup. MISS MAGNOLIA BEAUMONT GOES TO PROVINCETOWN, written and performed by Joe Hutcheson and directed by Cheryl King, shows that style, imagination, intelligence, heart, talent and daring are what make such productions worth the gamble,” says Nicholas Korn of Cincinnati CityBeat. ” In fact, these elements make any art worth creating and sharing with an audience of strangers.”

All tickets for this performance are $12. Tickets can be purchased by visiting knowtheatre.com or by calling the box office at 513.300.KNOW (5669). Advance reservations are recommended as these performances will likely sell out.

Additional Information

Joe Hutcheson has been writing and performing solo shows in New York since 2007. Joe’s solo show Miss Magnolia Beaumont Goes to Provincetown first appeared in this festival and was extended twice throughout the summer; in 2010, under the direction of Cheryl, Miss Magnolia enjoyed a critically acclaimed run at the Cherry Lane Studio with the New York International Fringe Festival and garnered a FringeNYC Overall Excellence Award.
