Pre-Pandemic NUTCRACKER is Back at Cincinnati Ballet’s Music Hall

CB_The Nutracker 2021 promoFull cast — including children — will perform December 16-26

CINCINNATI, OH (November 29, 2021) – Cincinnati Ballet’s The Nutcracker returns to Music Hall December 16 through 26. The lavish production will be staged in its full pre-pandemic splendor, with elaborate sets and costumes and live musical accompaniment of Tchaikovsky’s beloved score by the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. This year’s production of Artistic Director Victoria Morgan’s whimsical version is even more special as this season marks Morgan’s 25th Anniversary and final season with the Company. “This whole story, Clara’s story is a child’s fantastic dream,” Morgan said. “The holidays are about joy, and I hope this production brings everyone as much joy as it has brought me over the years. It has been my honor and pleasure to share my Nutcracker with our patrons and the community.” Dozens of local children will dance alongside Cincinnati Ballet’s professional company. Due to vaccination requirements, only children 12 and older are featured in this year’s production. “We are so excited to have children back in The Nutcracker,” Morgan added. “Children are the heart and soul of the production and bring a magical energy as they perform. It’s also such an amazing opportunity for these children to perform alongside our professional dancers.” Cincinnati Ballet dancers and young performers (age 12 and older) appearing in the production are fully vaccinated and will perform unmasked.

The Nutcracker is a classic holiday tale that follows the imaginative story of Clara, a little girl who embarks on a dreamy journey after she receives a nutcracker as a gift on Christmas Eve. With her Nutcracker Prince, Clara travels through the Land of Sweets, meeting colorful and exciting characters along the way. Morgan’s whimsical choreographic take on the classic story is like nothing you have ever seen before! Victoria Morgan’s The Nutcracker premiered in 2011 with new sets by scenic designer John Ezell, bright and beautiful costumes by Carrie Robbins, lighting by Trad A Burns and athletic, engaging choreography by Victoria Morgan. Morgan’s rendition of the classical ballet is filled with unique, contemporary twists on longstanding traditions: from the bright, whimsical sets, stage effects and acrobatics to the appearance of new, playful characters such as Clara’s companion, a pet poodle named Minnie, dancing Cupcakes, tumbling Snowballs, an ensemble of poodles performing the Dance of the Mirlitons (or “Mirlipoos”) and more. This year, three Otto M. Budig Academy students will have the opportunity to perform the role of Clara – Mollie Berk, Isabella Horn, and Nina Bosley.

All ticket holders aged 12 and above are required to show proof of full Covid-19 vaccination for entry into Cincinnati Music Hall and the Aronoff Center for the Arts. We are pleased to announce that to expedite entry, venues have partnered with BINDLE, a smartphone app that converts COVID-19 vaccination records into digital entry passes. The Bindle app is safe, secure, and available FREE OF CHARGE to all guests. The use of this app will speed the health screening process, allowing you to reach your seats faster! Use of Bindle is NOT REQUIRED, and health information is not shared with Bindle or the Cincinnati Arts Association (Aronoff Center/Music Hall). You can safely store your vaccine records and COVID-19 test results using Bindle’s military-grade encryption, keeping personal identity and health information strictly private. Proof of a negative Covid-19 test will also be accepted in lieu of proof of vaccination. The negative test can either be a PCR test taken within 72 hours of the performance or an antigen test by a healthcare or pharmacy provider within 24 hours. In addition, all guests regardless of age or vaccination status are required to always wear masks inside the venue, including while seated in performance spaces. This policy will remain in effect until further notice. Cincinnati Ballet, along with our venue partners, will continue to closely monitor the rate of Covid-19 transmission in Hamilton County and assess and adjust accordingly. Cincinnati Ballet Offers Specialized Classes for People with Parkinson’s

CB_Parkinson ClassTwice-weekly classes designed to improve flexibility, balance, and quality of life

Cincinnati Ballet announces new dance classes for persons living with Parkinson’s Disease. The new program — CB Moves for Parkinson’s — was created in partnership with Dancing with Parkinson’s Cincinnati. The program is based on the Dance for PD methodology created by acclaimed choreographer Mark Morris. Our expert faculty use movement and music to stimulate both the body and mind, providing a supportive forum for fitness, expression, and community for participants of all ages. Dancers are welcome to enjoy class on their own or to invite a companion to participate with them.

Dance might not seem like the obvious therapy for people living with Parkinson’s Disease, who are often known for tremors in their hands and shuffling of their feet. Parkinson’s Disease can also cause muscle rigidity and affect balance, and patients can experience fatigue, mood disorders, and cognitive impairment that can significantly decrease quality of life. Dance therapy has been shown to improve patients’ motor function and well-being. “Dance may be effective in targeting motor symptoms of Parkinson’s disease because it incorporates the stretching and strengthening of muscles, and increases flexibility throughout the body, which may help maintain balance in people with Parkinson’s,” researchers at Northwestern University wrote after conducting a 2018 study which evaluated the benefits of dance therapy in Parkinson’s patients.

All Tri-State PD patients and their loved ones are welcome to program. Classes are held at the Cincinnati Ballet Margaret and Michael Valentine Center for Dance in Walnut Hills on Mondays and Fridays and at the Wyoming Fine Arts Center on Wednesdays. Classes are offered on a drop-in basis so there is no advance commitment required. The $10 class fee covers both the participant and a companion. Financial aid is available.

Cincinnati Ballet Presents KING ARTHUR’S CAMELOT Nov. 5-7 at Music Hall

CB_Camelot promoPyrotechnics, projections, and puppetry featured in large-scale, post-pandemic production

Cincinnati, OH (October 12, 2021) – Cincinnati Ballet is pleased to welcome audiences back to the theater for its first, full-scale production since the pandemic began. Artistic Director Victoria Morgan’s KING ARTHUR’S CAMELOT features dozens of dancers, dazzling sets and costumes, and incredible special effects. CAMELOT, first created in 2013, is also the first of three full-length, Morgan-choreographed ballets featured during the 2021-2022 Season, as the Company celebrates her 25th and final year as artistic director. “It means so much to me that we are producing KING ARTHUR’S CAMELOT this season,” Morgan said. “There are very few ballets based on the Arthurian legend. It has all the elements of a great story – a hero’s quest, forbidden love, epic battles – and the sword flighting and jousting are exciting as well! It was a joy to create this work, and I am thrilled we are sharing it with Cincinnati again.” CAMELOT transports us to a mystical land where the story of King Arthur, Lancelot, and Guinevere unfolds in a visually stunning display of dance, drama, and magic that the whole family will love! Exquisite costumes by Sandra Woodall, one of the dance world’s most sought-after designers, and an original score by John Estacio set the scene as newly crowned King Arthur navigates the trials of love and betrayal amidst a kingdom at war. All Cincinnati Ballet dancers and Cincinnati Ballet Otto M. Budig Academy young performers (age 12 and older) appearing in the production are fully vaccinated and will perform unmasked.
