A high-speed roller-coaster type condensation of all 37 (gasp!) of Shakespeare’s comedies, tragedies and histories in one wild ride that will leave you breathless with laughter. This hilarious, fast-paced show is the Reduced Shakespeare Company’s flagship production. Performed for decades, all over the world, it brings together Shakespeare, satire, sight gags, pop culture references, improv, and some audience interaction for a great night of theatre.

AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS Travels to the Arts Center at Dunham for Free Family Fun

pip_around-the-world-in-80-days-promoCINCINNATI, OH – January 13, 2017 — Bring your passport on Saturday, January 21 at 2 p.m. for AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS, part of the Free Family Fun Series at the Arts Center at Dunham.

The Playhouse in the Park’s Off the Hill Productions by Toby Hulse is based on the Jules Verne book and is provided courtesy of a grant from Price Hill Will Arts CAT. Join Phileas Fogg in the world’s most amazing race. Via rail, boat and even elephant, Fogg must travel the globe in just 80 days or he will forfeit a fortune. But a snooping detective, a possible human sacrifice and even the will of Mother Nature all conspire against Fogg’s adventure of a lifetime. Just three actors portray 19 different characters to create a spirited, fast-moving, highly imaginative and hilariously entertaining comedy. The show is recommended for ages 8 and up.

All Free Family Fun Series performances are on Saturdays at 2:00 p.m. The remaining series includes:

–       March 11, 2017 ROKCincy Opera for Children: “The Magic Flute”

ROKCincy is thrilled to present Mozart’s beloved fairy tale opera “The Magic Flute.” The performance is 40 minutes in length and includes a question and answer session with the cast. ROKCincy is a non-profit program with a mission to introduce young people to the thrill of live, fully staged opera and to give developing professional musicians an opportunity to hone their performance skills through experience.

–       April 22, 2017 The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe based upon the story by C.S. Lewis, dramatized by Le Clanche du Rand and performed by the Playhouse in the Park’s Off the Hill Productions. Courtesy of a grant from Price Hill Will Arts CAT.

In Narnia, a land of talking animals, mythical creatures and eternal winter, the White Witch holds power over all. Any who dare to dissent are turned instantly into stone. But one day, a little girl named Lucy enters this magical land through an enchanted wardrobe, and her fantastical adventure signals the fulfillment of a prophecy and great change to come. Step through the wardrobe with Lucy, Peter, Susan and Edmund in this tour-de-force, two-actor adaptation of the beloved and heroic tale of good’s triumph over evil. Recommended for ages 5 and up.

The Arts Center at Dunham is a fine arts center for the west side of Cincinnati and its vision is to provide affordable creative and performing arts for Price Hill and surrounding communities. Housed in one of the three remaining buildings of what was the first municipally owned tuberculosis sanatorium in the United States, the Arts Center includes a 350-seat performance venue as well as extensive studio and programming space. Cincinnati Ballet Leaps into the New Year for Free Family Fun at the Arts Center at Dunham

cb_second-companyCINCINNATI, OH – December 29, 2016 — The Free Family Fun Series pliés into 2017 with the Cincinnati Ballet and The Typical Day in the Life of a Dancer on Saturday, January 7 at 2 p.m.

Dancers from the Cincinnati Ballet will provide an exciting peek into a day in the life of a professional dancer. Audience members will:

  • Learn the fundamentals of the art of ballet including the basic elements of dance. They will also gain an understanding of the discipline and athleticism required for a professional career in ballet.
  • Actively participate in the dance demonstration, applying the five basic ballet positions of the arms and feet to their own bodies and experimenting with other fun coordination exercises.
  • Experience an up close and personal performance by Cincinnati Ballet dancers and gain a greater understanding of performance etiquette.
  • Openly ask questions to the dancers in a positive, casual question and answer discussion.

All Free Family Fun Series performances are on Saturdays at 2:00 p.m. The remaining series includes:

HOUSE AT POOH CORNER Moves to Sunset Players’ Stage

CINCINNATI, OH – November 20, 2016 —Pooh Bear and all his friends from the Hundred Acre Wood will be at the Arts Center at Dunham for Sunset Players children’s show HOUSE AT POOH CORNER by A.A. Milne.

In Sunset Player’s annual holiday children’s show produced by special arrangement with The Dramatic Publishing Company, an emergency meeting is called to discuss Christopher Robin being sent to get “Education.” All the beloved denizens of the Hundred Acre Wood are there to decide what to do about this awful development. The consensus is that they should run away.

Directed by Dave Myers, the cast includes:

  • Benny Mitchell as Christopher Robin
  • Cassidy Dreier as Winnie The Pooh
  • Lizzie Braunstein as Piglet
  • Rick Wimmer as Rabbit
  • Morgan Story as Kanga
  • Sofia Jiminez as Roo
  • Deb Case as Eeyore
  • Jeri Nakamura as Owl
  • Olivia Marita as Tigger
  • Ava Rogers as Early
  • Makenzie Kelley as Late

Performance dates are Dec. 2, 3, 4, 9, 10 and 11. Friday shows are at 7:00 p.m. with Saturday and Sunday performances at 2:00 p.m. Sign language from Cincinnati State will be offered on December 10.

Sunset Players, Inc. is a community theater group located on the west side of Cincinnati. Founded in 1979, the group performs at the Arts Center at Dunham and has produced more than 120 plays. Its mission is to bring a smile, and its plays include comedies, farces, dramatic comedies and musical comedies—as long as there is some “comedy” in the performance somewhere. ROBIN HOOD Rights the Wrongs to Launch Free Family Fun Series at Arts Center at Dunham

pip_robin-hood-promo2CINCINNATI, OH – October 12, 2016 — The Free Family Fun Series is back for another season at the Arts Center at Dunham with Robin Hood by Greg Banks and performed by the Playhouse in the Park’s Off the Hill Productions on Saturday, October 29 at 2 p.m.

Courtesy of a grant from Price Hill Will Arts CAT, Off the Hill Productions’ Robin Hood centers on good and evil in this tale of a legendary outlaw who robs from the rich to give to the poor. Robin Hood and his merry band of underground heroes rally to support those who cannot fight for themselves. But when they run afoul of the greedy Prince John, the deceptive Sheriff of Nottingham devises an elaborate plot to discover Robin Hood’s hideout and capture him once and for all. Full of swordfights and wordplay, this decidedly modern take on the classic story is a high-powered action-packed adventure. Robin Hood is recommended for ages 8 and up.

“The Arts Center at Dunham is thrilled to bring back the Free Family Fun Series,” said Carrie Mees, who supports programming at the Arts Center at Dunham. “The series has developed a strong following in the community and is a great way to spread the love of fine arts to children of all ages.”

    Dancers from the prestigious Cincinnati Ballet will provide an exciting peek into the typical day in the life of professional dancers.
