Playhouse Fall Acting Classes For Children Now on Sale

CINCINNATI—Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park’s fall acting classes are now on sale for young persons ages 3-14. Participants who register by Aug. 22 receive a $20 discount with code LRN2018; final registration deadline is Sept. 7. Classes take place at the Playhouse in Mount Adams: 962 Mt Adams Circle, Cincinnati, OH 45202.

Designed to build confidence, strengthen communication skills and develop a sense of ensemble and community, the programs focus on individual and collective skill development in a fun and supportive environment.

“At the Playhouse, we believe everyone has a voice,” says Daunielle Rasmussen, director of education and community engagement. “No acting experience is required or expected for our programs.”

CAMPFIRE STORIES
Saturdays, Sept. 8 to Oct. 27 | Tuition: $95*
Pre-kindergarten | 10 – 10:30 a.m.

Gather ‘round the campfire and listen to our tale! Using acting-based techniques, work as a group to bring exciting adventure stories to life. Nibble on s’mores, build a campsite and meet big brown bears!

SPY SQUAD
Saturdays, Sept. 8 to Oct. 27 | Tuition: $140*
Kindergarten through second grade | 10:40 – 11:25 a.m.

Our spy agency is recruiting and we need you to help us complete our mission! Flex your acting muscles and crack codes, dodge laser traps and go undercover. Do you have what it takes to be the next great spy?

MYSTERY & MAYHEM (Grades 3-5)
Saturdays, Sept. 8 to Oct. 27 | Tuition: $155*
Third through fifth grades | 11:35 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Ghouls and goblins are causing mystery and mayhem! Put your sleuthing (and acting) skills to the test by following a trail of clues and solving tricky mysteries. Will you help us restore order to the world?

MYSTERY & MAYHEM (Grade 6-8)
Saturdays, Sept. 8 to Oct. 27 | Tuition: $155*
Sixth through eighth grades | 9 – 9:50 a.m.

The Playhouse is supported by the generosity of more than 40,000 contributors to the ArtsWave Community Campaign. The Ohio Arts Council helps fund the Playhouse with state tax dollars to encourage economic growth, educational excellence and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans. The Playhouse also receives funding from the Shubert Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts.

*Each child acting class tuition includes a $25, non-refundable registration fee. Cancellations prior to the first day of class will be honored with a refund, minus the $25 non-refundable registration fee. Cancellations after the first class will receive a refund, minus a pro-rate for the first class and the $25 non-refundable registration fee. There will be no refunds given after the second class.

Offered in partnership with City Fusion, this two-day workshop will show you how you already have what you need to get those laughs: Perspective and passion. You will learn how to harness those attributes to construct the comedy sketch, the comedic monologue, and the character-based comedic essay.

Scott Levy returns from his adopted home of Chicago to his native city of Cincinnati. He now teaches for the Writing Program at the famed Second City Training Center. Before departing for the windy Lake Michigan Shores, Scott was an announcer and music host for Greater Cincinnati’s late, lamented WNKU, and was a writer and performer for The Monkeytime Comedy Troupe, who toured the region and produced the NPR syndicated program, It’s Monkeytime! Some of his other Chicago credits include being a writer and performer for the acclaimed satire The Best Church Of God, improvising in the Second City Unhinged show Every Old Man Was Once Young, and work as a contributor to the popular live weekly satirical magazine The Paper Machete.

German Theater Camp Summer 2018

Dates: June 18-June 29 2018
Times: Monday-Friday, 8am-3:00pm
Who: Open to incoming 2nd to 9th graders.
Location:

Final Performance: June 29, 7:30pm
Fee: $290, due May 18. This works out to less than $4/hour!

Theater and language learning can each open up a world of possibilities for children. Now they have a chance to do both during one unforgettable and unique summer camp experience. Your children will develop invaluable lifelong confidence and interpersonal skills through games, stories, music, reading, and more while learning German.

Campers will work primarily within their age group in either the “elementary” (2nd-5th grade) or “intermediate” group (6th-9th) while enjoying nearly 70 hours of drama experience in German!

Example of daily activities:

  • 8am-10am: Arrival, warm-up activities, drama games, new vocabulary through motions and games
  • 10am-10:15am: Morning break and snack
  • 10:15am-11:30am: Acting out stories with new vocabulary, songs, video production, crafts
  • 11:30am-12:15pm: Lunch and outdoor games. Walk to the park together. In case of bad weather, indoor lunch and an animated German film.
  • 12:15pm-3:00pm: Scene study, performing and rehearsing scenes from the play, character work, drama games

The two-week day camp will conclude with a short performance for parents of an all-German version of the classic tale “Bremen Town Musicians”. There is no prior acting/theater or German experience required, but campers with prior knowledge are welcome! The camp is limited to the first 24 participants to register.

The camp instructor, Patricia Mullins, has taught German and Spanish at Highlands Middle School in Fort Thomas, Kentucky for the past five years. She loves children, theater and language learning! She has more than 10 years of experience working with children and teaching languages and has been involved in community theater in the greater Cincinnati area for six years. All parents and guardians are invited to our all-German final performance on June 29th at 7:30pm at Village Players in Fort Thomas, Kentucky. Each family can reserve up to four tickets prior to the performance.

Registration Open for Cincinnati Christian Schools Summer Camp

Registration for our 2018 Summer Theatre Camp is open!

Dates/Times:

  • May 31, 7:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. (Brief, mandatory parent meeting)
  • June 1, 9:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m. (includes auditions)
  • June 4-7, 9:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m.
  • June 8, 9:00 a.m.- 9:00 p.m. (includes the big performance!)

Cincinnati Christian Schools JH/SH Campus, 4747 Morris Rd, Fairfield, 45011

Cost: $150 – include LOTS of fun and learning, camp t-shirt, snacks each day, and dinner for the campers on June 8, before the performance!

Registration: Open to all students, going into grades 4th – 9th!  There will be a limit to the number of kids that can register so please ACT FAST!! Don’t forget to tell your friends about this wonderful opportunity!
