CSC’s 2012-2013 Groundlings and Groundlings Jr Registrations Now Open

Groundlings
(10th-12th Grade)

What is it?
The Groundlings program was developed to provide 10th- to 12th-grade students the opportunity to learn performance techniques from professional actors while studying Shakespeare and his texts. This 20-week acting-intensive program includes acting method training, text analysis, and instruction in voice and movement. The students are mentored by Artistic Associates Jeremy Dubin and Sara Clark. Instruction takes place at CSC’s theatre on Race Street as the group prepares for a final performance at the conclusion of the class in April. Space is limited, so participants are encouraged to register soon. 

If this is your first year in Groundlings, you will need to audition for the program. Even if you have attended Groundlings JR or Summer Camp in the past YOU MUST AUDITION. Auditions will be held on Sunday August 19. More details are included during registration. After you register, your official time will be emailed to you. Student should prepare a 1 minute Shakespeare monologue (memorization optional).

How much does it cost & how do I pay?
The entire school year of 20 sessions (10 per semester) is $725. You may divide your payments into two payments of $362.50/per semester, although a full-year commitment from the student is required. Instructions on how to pay are provided during the online registration process. You may pay online, by mail or over the phone.

Groundlings Jr
(7th-9th grade)

What is it?
Based on our popular high school ensemble, Groundlings, Groundlings Jr was developed to provide 7th- to 9th-grade students with the chance to learn about the world of theatre from professional actors. This 10-week program includes acting, text analysis, and instruction in voice and movement. There is a Fall and Spring session available each year. Students are encouraged to participate in one or both! The 2011-2012 session will be taught by Resident Ensemble Member and Education Associate Miranda McGee. Instruction takes place at CSC’s theatre on Race Street. Space is limited, so participants are encouraged to register as soon as possible!

NEW! Adult Acting Classes at CSC

For Adults, Educators & College Students!

Classes take place at the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company

A seven-week course for college students and adults interested in learning general acting skills and techniques. The class will include scene study, ensemble and individual work, as well as exercises and methods used by professional actors to approach both contemporary and classical texts. Students will explore improvisation, text analysis, character building and creative ensemble collaboration. An open short performance/skills demonstration will occur during the last class. All experience levels welcome.

One Day Workshop for Actors and Directors

CAMP HOLLYWOOD CINCINNATI, July 26-29

Wake up in the heart of the entertainment industry right here in Cincinnati! Young actors (and parents) are invited to examine and learn the Hollywood film and television industry first hand by top A-List industry coaches, casting directors, agents, working actors and industry parents. Whether you are coming to us from the heartland of the USA or the other side of the world, it will be a camp experience you will remember forever!

Our camp will educate those preparing to enter the entertainment business, introduce and broaden the art of acting for the camera through challenging well rounded acting classes, dancing classes and singing classes with some of the best instructors in Hollywood. Most importantly, while learning, we offer the most FUN and dynamic day camp experience with the most fun and dynamic industry pro’s! Ages 8 to 21 may apply.

The level of experience does not matter when you arrive. You will leave with a wide-ranging level of understanding of career choices in the industry, how it all works and the willingness to go after success in dance, voice, film & television. Classes will be separated into age groups.

Besides the acting training we will be introducing Glee Inspired Singing & Dancing classes where participants will learn a Glee Inspired number that will be the opening act for the Showcase. 5 Singers and Dancers will be chosen and showcased for the Industry Panel.

Panelists will receive packet on each performer in the showcase. Packets will be prepared by actors and coach during the week of training. Packets provided by the acting camp. Panelists will fill out individual assessment sheets on each performer based on showcase performance and they will be mailed to participants. Showcase panelists interested in further discussions with a specific performer will fill out request forms that will be given to the participants directly.

We will have some of the coaches/industry guests from last summer and will have a few new ones. Confirmed guests/coaches are on the information below. We have added a music producer and NYC Talent Agent to the guest list and there will be a new acting coach this year besides Lori Knight. Favorites Kathy, Ade’, Mike, Brandi and Lisa will be returning with new agents/casting directors to be announced. This year we will also feature 5 singers and 5 dancers to perform solo’s during the Sunday showcase.

  • Participants will receive a completion certificate and a gift bag of goodies
  • A parent or guardian is invited and encouraged to attend all the after class events, business class and showcase (no additional cost).
  • Camp Hollywood is NOT an overnight camp. Participants will need to be picked up at end of each day’s classes and events.

Join cast members from OTRi for an “Intro to Improv” workshop. This workshop focuses on the fundamentals of improv, the philosophies we exercise as a group while on stage, and communication basics – all in a safe environment. If you’re looking to gain confidence being on stage, play with others better, and have a laugh while doing it, then you might be a budding improviser. Improv workshops are perfect for anyone that wants to try something new and fun – no experience required, actors and non-actors are welcome!
