THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG Runs April 26-30

MU_logoTHE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG
Miami University Theatre
April 26-30
Gates-Abegglen Theatre [Oxford]

The Cornley Drama Society takes over our stage with their performance of the 1920’s whodunnit The Murder at Haversham Manor. For this inept troupe of thespians, each moment ushers in a new catastrophe – broken props, missed lines, and even an unconscious leading lady! Luckily for us, their slapstick struggle to overcome and get the play back on track is utterly hysterical. Prepare for one of the funniest nights you’ll ever have at the theatre!

August Wilson’s SEVEN GUITARS
Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park
April 23-May 14
The Rouse Theatre [Eden Park]

It’s 1948 in Pittsburgh’s Hill District, and blues music echoes throughout the neighborhood. A group of old friends gathers to mourn and reminisce about Floyd “Schoolboy” Barton — a gifted guitarist whose star was on the rise and whose untimely death has irrevocably changed each of them. With live blues and lyrical dialogue, August Wilson weaves a poetic and poignant composition about the Black American experience. This landmark, Tony Award-winning play — a part of Wilson’s American Century Cycle — promises a soulful exploration of the ties that bind and the chords that hold us together. August Wilson’s Seven Guitars is suitable for adult and older teenage audiences. This landmark script contains adult language (including the n-word) as it explores the tunes of life for the story’s characters. Through poetic dialogue and blues melodies, they speak frankly and deeply about hardship, violence, death and racism.

RIPCORD Runs April 21-30

OXACT_RipcordRIPCORD
Oxford Area Community Theatre
April 21-30
Oxford Community Arts Center

Directed by Lisa Biales

For four years, irritable and sarcastic Abby Binder has kept a room to herself at the Bristol Place Senior Living Facility, through sheer force of her rude personality. Nursing disappointment at the direction her life has taken, she has no room for distraction. When bubbly, bright, and unbearably cheerful Marilyn Dunne is placed in her room, Abby tries her usual tricks, but fails to scare her annoying new roommate away. RIPCORD is an enemies-to-friends story for a pair of excellently well-rounded, mature women.
