Auditions Announced for THE WIZ JR at The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati

This audition is open to all people, ages, and talents!

Whether you see yourself as a beginner who only sings in the shower and dances in the kitchen, or you’ve performed with us before, everyone is welcome on our stage. We want you to show us what you’ve got for a chance to be a part of TCT’s modern telling of this classic story we all know and love.

A beloved Broadway gem, THE WIZ infuses L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz with a dazzling mix of rock, gospel and soul music. This timeless tale of Dorothy’s adventures through the Land of Oz is a fun, family-friendly, and modern musical.

Morning and Afternoon performances during school days. Morning, afternoon and evening performances Friday-Sunday.

  • AUNT EM: Female Identifying, Dorothy’s Aunt. Life has not been easy for her and promises little else. Harsh towards Dorothy at times, but acts out of love.
  • DOROTHY: Female Identifying, Bright eyed and alive as can be. Would rather remain a child as long as possible instead of accepting the responsibilities of adulthood.
  • UNCLE HENRY: Male Identifying, Dorothy’s Uncle. Physically run-down from years of hard work on the farm. Often acts as the voice of reason towards Aunt Em.
  • ADDAPERLE: Any gender identity, any age, Good Witch of the North. Has magic powers they refer to as “doing tricks.” Their magical abilities don’t always pan out as well as they would like them to.
  • SCARECROW: Any gender identity, any age, Tired of being a scarecrow and the prospect of not going anywhere. Embarks on the journey to see The Wiz in hopes they can provide a brain.
  • TIN MAN: Any gender identity, any age,  Human at one time. Lost all their limbs to a cursed axe. Joins in the journey in hopes the Wiz will provide them a heart because “it isn’t enough to be good looking.”
  • LION: Any gender identity, any age, Travels around the jungle scaring people, but has “a yellow streak a mile wide.” Coward state stems from deeper mother issues and gets. Joins in the journey to see the wiz to gain some courage.
  • THE WIZ: Any gender identity, any age, All-powerful leader over the land of Oz. Hides their true nature behind the façade of a temperamental leader. Their true identity is an enigma.
  • EVILLENE: Any gender identity, any age, Wicked Witch of the West. Low-down evil. Not a kind bone in their body nor kind thought in their rotten mind.
  • GLINDA: Any gender identity, any age, Good Witch of the South. Prettiest of all the witches. Very wise in the way of show-business.
  • ENSEMBLE: A group of Adults, Teens, and children to play a wide variety of characters and features including munchkins, Citizens of Oz, Gatekeeper, Lord High Underling, Winged Monkeys and understudy principal roles.  Seeking extremely strong and versatile Dancer, Singer, Actors. In 1860, cranky old miser Ebenezer Scrooge hates Christmas, loathes people, and defends the decrease of the surplus of poor population, runs his bank exploiting his employee Bob Cratchit and clients, giving a bitter treatment to his own nephew and acquaintances. However, on Christmas Eve, he is visited by the doomed ghost of his former partner, Jacob Marley, who tells him that three spirits would visit him that night. The first one, the spirit of Christmas Past, recalls his miserable youth when he lost his only love due to his greed, the spirit of Christmas Present shows him the poor situation of Bob’s family, and how joyful life may be and the spirit of Christmas Yet To Come shows his fate. Scrooge finds that life is good, and time is too short, and suddenly you are not there anymore, changing his behavior toward Christmas, Bob, his nephew, and people in general.

Prepare: 1 verse and 1 chorus of a Broadway song in the style of the show but NOT from the show itself.

No acapella auditions will be accepted. Please provide your song with either a backing track or an accompanist. Also please do not wear clothing for your audition that is representative of the style of clothing worn in the production.

All races, sexualities & identities are welcome.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

General Cast Description: Large (40+), children through adult. Strong/large chorus.

Dance Requirement: Standard musical staging. Some Roles may be double or triple cast.

ALL OF THE LISTED NAMED CHARACTERS HAVE AT LEAST SOME FEATURED SOLO SINGING AND MUST HAVE STRONG SOLO VOICES. BRITISH ACCENT PREFERRED.

ADULT MALE ROLES

  • Ebenezer Scrooge – Main role. Older man who’s great wealth has turned his heart to stone. Deaf to the needs of his fellow men, he must journey thru past/present/future to regain the spirit of charity and kindness he once had as a young man.
    VOCAL RANGE Baritone
  • Bob Cratchit – Hardworking clerk in Scrooge’s employment. Dedicated to his family, Especially to his young disabled son Tiny Tim. Maintains a kind heart, even in the fact of Scrooge’s evil temper and mean-spiritedness. 20-30s suggested age.
    VOCAL RANGE Tenor-Baritone
  • Harry (Scrooge nephew)/Young Scrooge – Warm, compassionate nephew of Scrooge. Feels sorry for Scrooge and obligated to him, being family. As young Scrooge, will need to be able to dance.
    VOCAL RANGE Tenor-Baritone
  • Mr. Fezziwig/Hugo Heartly Portly, jolly man. – Must be able to dance.
    VOCAL RANGE  Tenor-Baritone
  • Tom Jenkins/School Teacher Cockney accent. Good dancer. As Tom Jenkins – hot soup man who owes money to Scrooge.

Auditions Announced for WINNIE-THE-POOH CHRISTMAS TAIL at Beavercreek Community Theatre

BCT_YouthTheatreAnnouncing auditions for the upcoming BCT Youth production of A WINNIE-THE-POOH CHRISTMAS TAIL.

Oct. 10 & 11 at the Lofino Center, 3868 Dayton-Xenia Road

Auditioners will be assigned a time at 5-minute intervals. Please prepare a memorized 1-minute monologue and be prepared to read from the script.

Confirmation of your assigned time will be emailed and an Audition Form and Conflict Calendar will be attached. Please list ALL family and school conflicts on the Conflict Calendar, including potential late arrivals for rehearsals. No excuses will be accepted for missed rehearsals during tech week (the last week of rehearsal prior to Opening Night), nor for any performance.

Call-Backs will be held at the Director’s discretion, usually 7-8:30pm the day after auditions are held.

Rehearsal schedule is determined by the Director, usually 3 weeknights with the occasional Saturday as needed.
There is a participation fee of $90 per child with consideration given to families with 3 or more children enrolled in the program.

There is no fee for those interested in working tech.

Production dates: Dec. 3-10, 2021
