Sunday Fringe Update (Three Sell Outs)

The first Saturday of Fringe added three more sold out performances.

CFF_Radio Gomorrah LiveRADIO GOMORRAH LIVE! produced by local group The Burying Beetles sold out their third show.

It’s the future: Ecosystems in collapse. The One-Percent cavorts in Mercedes escape pods while the rest of us – enslaved by our micro-chip implants – roast rats over toxic waste fires. Only three people can save humanity: a foul-mouthed social dropout, a pathologically cheerful religious fanatic, and a Cyber-Babe with a past. It’s a radio serial, live on stage, with the audience as sound-effects artists. It’s Radio Gomorrah LIVE! It’s the future. Ooops.

You have two more changes to catch this one:

  • Wed, June 3 at 9:00pm
  • Fri, June 5 at 9:10pm

CFF_Edgar AllanAs I mentioned earlier this week, the buzz around The Coldharts’ EDGAR ALLAN has been strong. Saturday’s second performance was packed.

Eleven year old Edgar Allan has one goal: to be the most remarkable boy at boarding school. He has only one obstacle: Edgar Allan. A manic lullabye inspired by the childhood and short stories of Edgar Allan Poe..

I am catching their third performance this evening. All remaining performances:

  • Sun, May 31 at 4:30pm
  • Thur, June 4 at 8:40pm
  • Sat, June 6 at 7:25pm

CFF_Tales Too Tall For TrailersFan favorite Paul Strickland (AIN’T TRUE AND UNCLE FALSE and PAPA SQUAT’S STORE OF SORTS), has teamed with Erika Kate McDonald for this year’s TALES TOO TALL FOR TRAILERS. Unsurprisingly their first show sold out.

Trailer-park tall-tales for adults that kids can enjoy too! Paul Strickland (Ain’t True and Uncle False, Papa Squat’s Store of Sorts) and Erika Kate MacDonald join forces in this off-kilter musical comedy full of funny songs, strange southern stories, shadow puppetry and more!

I’ll be in the audience tonight. TRAILERS has four performances left.

  • Sun, May 31 at 6:30pm
  • Tue, June 2 at 8:25pm
  • Wed, June 3 at 7:30pm
  • Fri, June 5 at 8:15pm

There are 20 performances to choose from today. Individual tickets are $15, or try a One Night Stand Pass (two-shows and one drink pass) for $30. I hope to you out and about in OTR today.

What to prepare and bring:

  • Song: Be prepared to perform 32 measures (no longer than 1 minute) of any song that highlights your voice. This should be a Broadway-type song. You preferably should sing with a CD or ipod karaoke-type music (no vocals,) or you may sing a-cappella. There will not be an accompanist.

  • Show info: Considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy, “Guys And Dolls” ran for 1,200 performances when it opened on Broadway in 1950. It received nearly unanimous positive reviews from critics and won a bevy of awards, including TONY Awards, Drama Desks, and Olivers. Set in Damon Runyon’s mythical New York City, “Guys and Dolls” is an oddball romantic comedy. Gambler Nathan Detroit tries to find the cash to set up the biggest craps game in town while the authorities breathe down his neck; meanwhile, his girlfriend, nightclub performer Adelaide, laments that they’ve been engaged for 14 years. Nathan turns to fellow gambler Sky Masterson for the dough, but Sky ends up chasing the straight-laced missionary Sarah Brown. Guys And Dolls takes us from the heart of Times Square to the cafes of Havana, Cuba, and even into the sewers of New York City, but eventually everyone ends up right where they belong.

Performances will be Sept. 25-27 at the Mason High School Theater.

Who’s Directing?: Show will be directed by Erin Wallace, Music Direction by Jeanne Bilyeu and Choreography by Jerry Wiesenhahn.

Playhouse to Audition Children June 13 & 14 FOR 2015-2016 Productions, Including A CHRISTMAS CAROL

CINCINNATI PLAYHOUSE IN THE PARK TO AUDITION CHILDREN JUNE 13 AND 14 FOR 2015-16 PRODUCTIONS, INCLUDING A CHRISTMAS CAROL

PIP_logo(CINCINNATI) – The Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park will hold auditions on Saturday, June 13, and Sunday, June 14, for children interested in performing in several of the theatre’s 2015-16 productions, including the annual holiday favorite A CHRISTMAS CAROL, presented by U.S. Bank. Children also will be screened from among the applicants for roles in additional shows, including MAD RIVER RISING and TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD.

For the 25th anniversary production of A CHRISTMAS CAROL, nine area children will be cast to fill speaking and non-speaking parts. Roles are available for boys and girls 8 to 13 years old. Additionally, the part of Tiny Tim requires a boy 6 to 8 years of age. Those cast in previous productions of A CHRISTMAS CAROL will need to email their information again to be considered for this year’s show. To be eligible, children must not turn 14 before Dec. 30, 2015.

Children should email a resume of any experience to the Playhouse, along with a photograph (a good quality school or family photo is acceptable). The resume and photo must be emailed again even if they have been sent in the past. The resume must include exact birth date and height, as well as an email address and telephone number. At the audition, children will be asked to share a one-minute monologue, story or poem and to demonstrate a British accent.

Interested children must be available for all rehearsals of these productions, most of which are scheduled around school hours. Children must also be available for all performances of the shows, which are scheduled Tuesdays through Sundays and include some weekday student and public matinees. Performance dates are available on the Playhouse website at www.cincyplay.com.

Photographs and resumes should be emailed to the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park to michael.haney@cincyplay.com. The deadline for consideration is May 29. Those selected to audition will be contacted by telephone to schedule specific times. All auditions will be held at the Playhouse, located in Eden Park at the edge of Mt. Adams.

The Playhouse is supported, in part, by the generosity of the tens of thousands of individuals and businesses that give to ArtsWave.

The Ohio Arts Council helps fund the Playhouse with state tax dollars to encourage economic growth, educational excellence and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans.

The Playhouse also receives funding from the Shubert Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts.
