Know Theatre of Cincinnati Present the Coldharts’ EDGAR ALLEN; An Evening of Spirits & Spirits and a Halloween Costume Party Hosted by Dave F’n Powell

The Know Theatre celebrates the spooky-weird joy of Halloween with a weekend of events

The Know Theatre of Cincinnati presents an unforgettable weekend of spooky entertainment featuring the award-winning dark musical comedy Edgar Allan by the Coldharts on Friday, October 25th, and the Know Theatre Halloween Party & Improv Jam on Saturday, October 26th.

Eleven-year-old Edgar Allan has only one goal: to be the most remarkable boy at English boarding school. He has only one obstacle: Edgar Allan.

A manic lullabye inspired by the childhood and short stories of Edgar Allan Poe.

Edgar Allan is a two-person dark musical-comedy, adapted from the short story William Wilson by Edgar Allan Poe, created and performed by Katie Hartman and Nick Ryan. It follows eleven-year-old Edgar Allan in his first year at Manor House School, as he seeks to gain academic ascendancy over the student body. All goes to plan until another boy named Edgar Allan arrives in class… complicating his schemes of dominance. Edgar Allan is a dark, comedic riff on the obsessions, the mania, and the insanity that haunted the life and work of America’s first professional writer.

Edgar Allan premiered at the 2013 Twin Cities Horror Festival in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and has performed hundreds of times, playing venues across the United States, Canada, and Off-Broadway. The show is a six time ‘Best of the Fest’ winner, receiving awards in London, Orlando, Ithaca, Minneapolis, Cincinnati and Edmonton. The “Edgar Allan” original cast album has been archived in the United States Library of Congress Podcast Preservation Project. More information available at www.thecoldharts.com.

Producing Artistic Director Bridget Leak emphasizes that “This production of Edgar Allan encapsulates what we do best here at Know Theatre: providing a welcoming place for artists and creating a platform for them to present the highest caliber of art. We are a community that nurtures independent theatre artists and champions original work that can’t be seen anywhere else.”

The Spirits & Spirits VIP Experience begins at 7:30pm and includes an American Whiskey Tasting guided by Dean McHone of Diageo Hospitality as well as Tarot Readings. Price of admission also includes entry to the October 26th Halloween Party.

Saturday night’s Halloween Party will include party games, an Improv Jam led by improviser and horror-movie aficionado Dave F’n Powell, followed by a costume contest with prizes for best costumes in multiple categories. Guests who arrive in costume receive their first drink free.

90.9 WGUC to Broadcast Cincinnati Opera’s 2024 SUMMER FESTIVAL on Sunday Evenings in November

CINCINNATI (Oct. 2, 2024)—Relive the magic of Cincinnati Opera’s 2024 Summer Festival on Sunday evenings this November when 90.9 WGUC, Cincinnati’s classical public radio station, broadcasts performances from Cincinnati Opera’s 2024 season. Each broadcast will begin at 8 p.m. ET and can be heard locally on air at 90.9 FM and online at wguc.org.

THE TAMING OF THE SHREW: Unrehearsed Runs Sept. 21-22 at Unrehearsed Cincinnati

Cincinnati— 8/14/2024 — Unrehearsed Cincinnati is pleased to introduce this year’s production of THE TAMING OF THE SHREW, to be performed in the beer garden at Fibonacci Brewing Company in Mt. Healthy, Saturday and Sunday, September 21 and 22 at 3pm. The play has been mindfully abridged and will run about 1 hour. There is no charge for admission, but we encourage guests to support our venue generously!

About Unrehearsed Cincinnati
Unrehearsed Shakespeare is a movement that seeks to knock Shakespeare off his pedestal and give him back to the groundlings where he belongs. Actors prepare by unlocking clues Shakespeare left in the text as stage directions, but do not rehearse together ahead of time. They don’t even know which role(s) their fellow actors will be playing until the play starts! This allows them to connect to the text and to the audience in a more organic way, and guarantees hilarious mishaps on the journey.

Unrehearsed Cincinnati is a local artists’ collective dedicated to the Unrehearsed Shakespeare format. THE TAMING OF THE SHREW is their third production, preceded by A Midsummer Night’s Dream in 2023 and Macbeth in 2019.

THE TAMING OF THE SHREW: Unrehearsed
THE TAMING OF THE SHREW is inspiration for the 1948 Cole Porter musical, “Kiss Me, Kate” and the 1999 movie “10 Things I Hate About You”. It is typically performed as a slapstick farce, which undercuts some of the difficult subject matter. Our take on the play is darker. At its core, the play asks: What happens when we stand by and allow people we know to get away with bad behavior? This is Shrew as you’ve never seen it before. Join our all-female cast and production staff for an immersive theatre experience you’ll never forget!

Content warning: THE TAMING OF THE SHREW contains depictions and discussion of intimate partner violence. Resources will be available during and after the performance for anyone who may need support. Immediately following the performance, we will host a moderated discussion panel featuring speakers from local organizations dedicated to supporting survivors of intimate partner violence.

Ghostlight Stage Company Announces Cast and Creative Team for 2024 One Act Double Feature

The Ghostlight Stage Company is thrilled to announce the cast and creative team for it’s upcoming season opener, “2024 One Act Double Feature.” This year’s double feature will showcase “Esther Made Me Do It” by Nell Adkins and Elizabeth Sacktor, and “Artists & Vandals,” by Erin K. Considine.

More about the event: The Ghostlight’s One Act Double Feature gives the audience a look “behind the curtain” and into the process-side of developing 2 new one-act plays. Leading up to the event, casts and creative teams are given 4 brief rehearsals to workshop the plays, with the playwrights making adjustments throughout. After these few rehearsals, plays are performed in front of an audience to bring them into the process and gain valuable community feedback! The plays are presented with some light staging and minimal costuming and props similar to other staged-readings…but with a twist! Audiences can take a look into the visions for how the pieces could be if they were to go on and be fully developed in the future. We do this by having design presentations from professional set and costume designers available in a studio space for audiences to ask questions about and view before the performance and during intermission. There are also feedback boxes where audience members can write down their thoughts and be a part of the development process! Each performance will also begin and end with brief commentary from the playwrights and directors of each piece, who give the audience even more insight as to the process of developing the work, their vision for what’s to come and their motivation for creating the piece in the first place. You can’t miss this interactive developmental night of theatre!

ARTISTS & VANDALS synopsis: After years of odd jobs and struggling to make ends meet, Lyla and Knox are opening their own Art Gallery to critical acclaim and personal pride. They have parented a son and parented each other. Nothing could ruin this night. Nothing but Daniel: who disappeared fifteen years ago, and is now standing in the shadows under the L.

ESTHER MADE ME DO IT synopsis: Best friends, Naomi and Ruth, are preparing to audition for their local Purim shpiel. Naomi, gunning for the part of Esther, hopes to kick start her theatrical career. Ruth questions her feelings for Naomi and how long she’s willing to put Naomi’s desires before her own.

Date/Time: October 21, 2024 at 7pm

Location: Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park’s Schiff Education Studio

Performance will run approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, including a 10 minute intermission.
