ACT Cincinnati Announces Applications for our 2023 Performance Scholarship Competition

Deadline for submission is January 31, 2023 at 11:59pm ET.
Late application submissions cannot be accepted.​

INFORMATION ON 2023 SCHOLARSHIPS 

WHO: The Performance scholarships are open to college Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior students currently enrolled in an accredited bachelor’s degree program. Students must attend a college within 50 miles of the greater Cincinnati area and/or have a connection to one of our ACT Cincinnati member groups.

WHAT: Six (6) scholarships are awarded in amounts ranging from $350 – $2,500.

WHEN: Submissions are due no later than January 31, 2023 at 11:59pm ET.

WHERE: Auditions will be held in person on Saturday, February 11, 2023 (with an alternate snow date of Saturday, February 18, 2023) between 10:00am to 4:00pm ET at the Stained Glass Theatre, 802 York Street Newport KY 41071

PREPARE:  Students are to present two (2) contrasting pieces of either Voice, Dance, Instrumental, Acting, or a combination of any two.

All portions of the application must be completed and uploaded at the same time.

Required items to be submitted digitally:

  1. Theatre Resume (Word or pdf)
  2. Biography (Word document, one paragraph, third person)
  3. Current Headshot photo with your full name visible (.jpg or .png file)
  4. Valid email address and phone number​

Position Overview: After School Classes Teaching Artist

The After School Classes Teaching Artist will join our pool of Teaching Artists and may be offered work teaching a variety of theatre-based afterschool classes during the 2022-23 school year. Teaching Artist may be offered work in any of the schools and organizations we serve which include locations throughout the tri-state area.

The Teaching Artist is responsible for check in and check out, teaching participants, implementing curriculum, communicating with partners onsite at the schools, mentoring Interns, as requested, and collaborating with Playhouse Education Staff and other professional artists. They are responsible for following lesson plans and maintaining a positive and exciting classroom environment.

This is a temporary, seasonal position with an hourly rate of $35. After School Teaching Artist will be paid for teaching time and 30 minutes total of entrance and exit time per day. Hours will be based on individual classes and needs of the school/partner. Afterschool Classes occur three times per year and are typically eight sessions that start between 2:00 and 3:30 and last 30 – 90 minutes.

This position requires travel to school and community center venues including locations throughout the tri-state area. Qualified candidates must be flexible and able to take After School Classes in a variety of locations, therefore, candidates must possess reliable transportation.

Position Overview: School Workshop Teaching Artist

The School Workshops Teaching Artist will join our pool of Teaching Artists and may be offered work teaching a variety of theatre-based arts integration and enrichment day in-school classes during the 2022-23 school year. School Workshop Teaching Artists may be offered work in any of the schools and organizations we serve which include locations throughout the tri-state area.

The School Workshop Teaching Artist is responsible for teaching participants using theatre and arts integration techniques, implementing curriculum, communicating with teachers and partners onsite at the schools, mentoring Interns, as requested, and collaborating with Playhouse Education Staff and other professional artists. They are responsible for following lesson plans and maintaining a positive and exciting classroom environment.

This is a temporary, seasonal position with an hourly rate of $35. School Workshops Teaching Artists will be paid for teaching time and 30 minutes total of entrance and exit time per day. Hours will be based on individual classes and needs of the school. In-school residencies are typically five consecutive days and are booked one residency at a time. Each day may have one to four sessions that last 35-55 minutes.

This position requires travel to school locations throughout the tri-state area. Qualified candidates must be flexible and able to take School Workshop assignments in a variety of locations, therefore, candidates must possess reliable transportation.

Village Players Director Call 2023-2024

VP_new logoDirectors Needed for 2023-24 Season!

Village Players of Fort Thomas is now accepting directing applications for our 2023-24 season! For nearly 60 years, Village Players has produced plays and musicals in the heart of Fort Thomas. Our theater is an intimate three-quarter thrust stage, immersing audiences in the magic of community theatre.

In keeping with our mission of striving to appeal to a broad audience, Village Players will be producing a Fall Show, a Holiday Show, a Winter Show, and a Spring Show. Exact production dates for this 2023-24 season to be determined at a later date.

Please see below for a list of plays that are under consideration by Village Players for the 2023-24 season. We encourage you to read any or all the plays under consideration. It is not necessary to read all the plays to apply.

Directors Sought for 2023-24 Season at Sunset Players

SSP_logoSunset Players is seeking proposals from directors interested in directing a show in our 2023/2024 season.

The Sunset Players welcomes the submission of plays for performance consideration. A standard season consists of three plays to be performed in September/October, February/March, April/May, and a Children’s Workshop show in December. One musical per season will also be considered.

Potential directors should have directed or assistant-directed shows in the past.

Potential directors must be open to using experienced Sunset Players Producers and Lighting and Sound Designers.

A successful proposal would contain:

  • A short summary of the action of the play or musical.
  • A description of the candidate’s background in theater, including their unique qualifications for directing their proposed show.
  • A list of the show’s characters with a brief description of their age and type.
  • A description of the director’s concept/vision for staging the play.
  • A description of the play’s scenic and costume requirements.
  • A list of needed production staff.
  • A proposed budget for the production.
  • Any exceptional costs associated with this production? (orchestra, musicians, etc.)
  • A proposed rehearsal schedule.
  • Any scheduling concerns.

Proposals for the 23/24 season must be received by December 16, 2022, to be considered. Please include a digital copy of the play or musical if possible.

Three Male Actors Sought for BE MY BABY at Sunset Players

SSP_logoThe Sunset Players seeks three male actors for their winter show, BE MY BABY, a comedy by Ken Ludwig.

The remaining characters to be cast are:

  • John Campbell – An irascible Scotsman (late 50s, Scottish accent)
  • Christy McCall – John’s ward (male, 20s-30s, Scottish accent)
  • Man – All other male parts (any age, Scottish, general European, and general American accent)

Rehearsals:
A table read in early December followed by rehearsals (typically three nights a week) starting early January. Tech week will be from February 19 to 23. We will try to be dark on Wednesday but no promises.

Show Dates:
Feb 24, 25, March 3, 4, 5 (Matinee), 9, 10, and 11 at the Arts Center At Dunham.

Synopsis:
The play tells the story of John, an irascible Scotsman, and an uptight English woman, Maude, both in their late 50s, who take on the journey of a lifetime. They are brought together when his ward marries her niece. Then, when the young couple decides to adopt a newborn baby, the older couple has to travel 6,000 miles to California to pick up the child and bring her safely home to Scotland. The problem is John and Maude despise each other. To make matters worse, they get stranded in San Francisco for several weeks and are expected to jointly care for the helpless newborn. There they form a new partnership and learn some startling lessons about life and love.
