Position Overview:
The Scenic Carpenter is a skilled theatre professional, knowledgeable in industry standard theatrical woodworking techniques along with basic construction knowledge for scenic pieces. The Scenic Carpenter works with the Co-TD/Lead Carpenter to build and install the scenic designer’s vision for the scenery of the four MainStage productions per season, Academy and TCT on Tour shows.

The Scenic Carpenter is self-motivated, able to work independently to complete tasks assigned to them safely and quickly without constant and direct oversight. The Scenic Carpenter can read and interpret scenic draftings/elevations, and is knowledgeable in construction techniques as they relate to scenery.

The Scenic Carpenter is willing to assist other departments to help fulfill the goals of the company. The Scenic Carpenter reports directly to the Co-TD/Lead Carpenter and works closely with all shop team members.

Responsibilities:

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Construction/Fabrication of MainStage and other TCT projects 
  • Read and interpret technical or designer drawings, then chose the correct methods and tools to efficiently and safely complete the task 
  • Attending scheduled production and design meetings as assigned
  • Use of stationary and portable power tools, as well as hand tools 
  • Repair existing set pieces to show-ready status when necessary 
  • Prep & load/unload trucks 
  • Maintain and organize a clean work environment 
  • Provide support during special events, mostly involving installations
  • Assemble MainStage shows with union crew at the Taft Theatre
  • Assist with installation of lighting components in scenic pieces
  • Assist other departments as necessary
  • Assist with preparations for the Emery Theatre opening in 2025
  • Communicate with upper management with any questions or issues
  • Other duties as assigned

Ideal Knowledge/Skills:                                       

  • BA or equivalent in Theatre, or two years’ experience in scenic construction, or equivalent construction experience
  • Must be comfortable working at heights and able to lift/carry 50 lbs
  • Proficiency with power tools, including, but not limited to: table saw, miter saw, jig saw, pneumatic staplers, hand routers, powered sanders 
  • Knowledge/experience in MIG welding, scenic painting, tool maintenance and theatrical rigging a plus 
  • Experience with theatrical lighting, scenic lighting and/or sound systems a plus
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently and safely
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Positive, problem-solving attitude
  • Valid driver’s license, ability to drive a 26’ box truck is preferred
  • Forklift and genie operational knowledge 

Compensation/Benefits/Employment Details

  • Annual Salary Range: $38,000-40,000
  • Ideal Start date: August 2024
  • Housing is not provided.
  • Health, vision, and dental benefits available, partially subsidized by employer contributions, after a waiting period.

Costume Shop Assistant (Full-Time) Sought by The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati

Position Overview:
The Costume Shop Assistant will assist the organization in fulfilling its mission of educating, entertaining and engaging audiences of all ages through professional theatrical productions and arts education programming.

Along with the Costume Shop Manager and the Asst. Costume Shop Manager, the Costume Shop Assistant oversees our stock and our costume shop. For all Mainstage and touring productions, the Costume Shop Assistant will work in collaboration with the Director of Production, Costume Shop Manager, Guest Designers, Stage Directors, Stage Managers, and the Associate Artistic Director.

The Costume Shop Assistant assists in patterning, cutting, and stitching for each Mainstage Production and assisting on Tour Productions. The Costume Shop Assistant will also assist with costume crafts on a show by show basis.  The Costume Shop Assistant is the lead dresser for all Mainstage productions.

The Costume Shop Assistant of The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati (TCT) reports directly to the Costume Shop Manager. 

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with the construction of costumes for Mainstage and touring productions
  • Assisting the Costume Shop Manager and Asst. Costume Shop Manager with the measuring and fitting of all cast members
  • Attending dress parade, costumed rehearsals at Red Bank, and tech and dress rehearsals at the Taft Theatre
  • Load-in and load-out of all costumes and racks at the Taft Theatre
  • Cleaning, re-stocking and repairing costumes, costume props, and accessories
  • Altering costumes
  • Dressing Mainstage shows on an as-needed basis
  • Assisting with the maintenance and organization of the costume shop and vault
  • Overseeing the cleaning and maintenance of all touring production costumes
  • Coordinating with the Tour Company Manager to ensure all touring production costume repairs are seen to in a timely manner
  • Overseeing laundry and restock of Mainstage productions upon closing
  • Fulfilling general costume requirements for TCT Workshops (needs vary upon the workshop season).
  • Maintaining a safe, healthy and clean work environment in all costume spaces
  • Other duties as assigned

Ideal and Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to take initiative, multi-task, and work graciously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Ability to work with diplomacy and tact and build relationship with people from a wide variety of backgrounds
  • Ability to build, nurture, and foster relationships with other staff members and guest designer/directors
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate the need for technical support for various events or performances
  • Collaborate and communicate with fellow staff members
  • Experience in foam work, wigs and make-up a plus.
  • Education Level – Bachelor of Fine Arts or equivalent work experience.

Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park – Seeking Tomás – TOMÁS AND THE LIBRARY LADY

Show Description: Tomás loves stories and knows all his Papá Grande’s by heart. As the young son of a migrant farm worker, Tomás has a chance encounter with a librarian in Iowa who introduces him to the wonderful world of books. His imagination takes off as he reads book after book and discovers worlds filled with dinosaurs, tigers and explorers. Based on the beloved book, this inspiring true story celebrates reading, imagination and creativity. Both English and Spanish speakers can readily understand this bilingual play.

Seeking:

  • Tomás Track: Young Tomás / Florencio / voice of Papá Grande / Adult Tomás
  • Location: Show will tour to schools and community centers across the Greater Cincinnati tri-state region up to 75 miles away from our home base.
  • Show Style: Theater for Young Audiences, Play with Music, Bilingual (English & Spanish)
  • Contract Details: To be considered for this role you must be 21 years old or older, be a non-equity actor, have availability for 35-40hrs a week throughout the run of the show and rehearsal period, and have local housing in Cincinnati, OH (or be willing to provide your own housing if you are currently not based in Cincinnati).

Dates:

  • Fittings: Week of August 5, 2024
  • Rehearsals Start: August 21, 2024
  • Run: September 11, 2024– November 23, 2024

The Drama Workshop is Now Accepting Submissions for HOME BREW THEATRE 8

TDW_Home Brew TheatreHome Brew Theatre is TDW’s festival featuring short plays by local authors, including a Meet the Artists reception where local beer is featured. Since Home Brew Theatre’s inception in 2016, it has quickly become Cincinnati’s premiere short play festival.

Home Brew Theatre 8 will be staged at TDW’s Glenmore Playhouse, with four performances over the weekend of January 10-12, 2025.

Submission Rules:

  • Plays on any topic will be considered.There is no theme. Dramas, comedies and musicals will be considered.
  • Plays must be ten minutes – roughly ten pages – long. Plays that are overtime during rehearsal will be asked to be trimmed with consultation of the playwright and director.
  • Plays must be unpublished.
  • Plays must not have been performed for a paying audience in the greater Cincinnati area in the three years prior to the January 2025 performance. (Public readings and free workshops are permitted.)
  • Plays should require very little in terms of props and sets. We must transition quickly between plays. We will use tables, chairs, rehearsal cubes, and not much else.
  • Playwrights must live within 100 miles of Cincinnati, and are encouraged to attend at least one performance. (A comp ticket will be provided.)
  • Limit 2 submissions per playwright.(Maximum 1 per playwright will be produced.)
  • Plays must be submitted anonymously. No identifying information can appear on the document itself. Playwright contact information will be collected via the google form.
  • Playwrights of selected plays will receive a small honorarium.
  • Playwrights may be consulted regarding production aspects of their plays, but final decision making resides with the production creative team and The Drama Workshop.
  • All performance and publishing rights will remain the ownership of the authors.

Director Submissions Sought for 2024-2025 Season at Beavercreek Community Theatre

bctBeavercreek Community Theatre is accepting show submissions (musicals and plays) by directors wishing to be considered to direct for our 2025-2026 season.

If you have not previously directed at BCT please include a director’s resume with your show submission.

If you have a pdf of the script you are proposing please include it as well.
