Lumos Players is thrilled to announce the launch of ther 2025 Playwrights Script Reading Series. After receiving so many incredible submissions, we want to extend a huge THANK YOU to all the talented playwrights who shared their work with us. Your creativity and passion continue to inspire us!

Now, it’s time for YOU to get involved! We’re looking for volunteers to join us in reading these exciting new plays. Whether you’re an experienced actor or someone who just loves to read aloud, we’d love for you to help bring these fresh works to life.

10-Minute Plays – February 12, 2025 @ 7:30PM

  1. Bob in 4B by Bruce Deveau
    Synopsis: Bob in 4B is set in the recreation room of an assisted living center, where two women reflect on a lifetime of love, loss, and friendship. As they reminisce about their shared past, they navigate the complexities of aging, regret, and their enduring bond.
  2. But the Greatest of This Is Love by Amanda Schumacher
    Synopsis: For 15 years, Sara has been known as “the pastor’s wife” at a small, conservative Lutheran church in middle-of-nowhere Iowa. It’s a role she’s wholeheartedly embraced–until tonight…. Because tonight, her 15-year-old son has just come out to her. Sara now must wrestle with what she’s been taught vs. what she actually believes. Angry, anxious, and armed with a bottle of red and a well-loved Bible, Sara speed dials the one person she’s been taught to go to in times of trouble: God himself.
  3. Heard Mentality by Allison Fradkin
    Synopsis:Ada may be hard-of-hearing, but she certainly isn’t hard-of-fearing how her first date will go.Will Ada’s new hearing aids aid and abet her insecurities? Or will they turn hearing impairment on its ear?
  4. Scrambled by Brett Hursey
    Synopsis: A young husband and wife have a heated argument while making breakfast. The fight starts over the husband’s decision to buy tampons for a female coworker, which his wife finds suspicious and intrusive. As tensions rise, the wife’s frustration boils over, and she keeps making his eggs wrong. The morning becomes a battle of miscommunication, jealousy, and misplaced intentions as they try to work through their differences, one scrambled egg at a time.

BARKLEE by Tom Cavanaugh
Synopsis: Barklee, is inspired by a real court case in New Jersey, where a high school refused to allow a student to bring his service dog. The story follows a 16-year-old boy with PTSD and his first service dog, Barklee, who is trained to help him navigate daily life and cope with his trauma. As the boy struggles to gain acceptance and support, Barklee becomes his lifeline, offering comfort, protection, and a sense of security. The story explores their journey together, highlighting the challenges of living with PTSD, the bond between human and animal, and the fight for inclusion and understanding in a world that often misunderstands both.


Musical April 9, 2025 @ 7:30PM
High School Antigone by Judy Klass
Synopsis: High school drama teacher Arabella stages a musical, but the new school board shuts it down as offensive mid-rehearsal, upsetting the cast, especially outspoken Elinor. Arabella’s wife, Lillian, suggests adapting Antigone into a musical. Arabella and her songwriting class dive into Greek drama, while Arabella tries to appease the conservative board member, Jack, by emphasizing Antigone as a Western classic. Jack’s son, Corey, is one of the “drama kids,” leading Jack to worry about his son’s sexuality. Meanwhile, Corey has a crush on Elinor, though she’s skeptical. As tensions rise over the censorship, the students take a stand on opening night, refusing to make the cuts the school board demands.


Two One-Act Plays May 14, 2025 @ 7:30PM

  1. Richard & Gregory by Michael Messner
    Synopsis: Two former partners, separated years ago, reunite when one is diagnosed with terminal cancer. As the sick man tries to rekindle their past rela
    tionship, tensions rise due to their differing views on queer identity. Can they reconcile in their final days, or will the past keep them apart? An unexpected act of hate from outsiders threatens to change everything.
  2. A Rare Medium by Eva Schegulla
    Synopsis: Inspired by a real case, A Rare Medium, set in 1859 Chicago, follows Kate Waren, a sharp, determined female Pinkerton detective, as she and her undercover team work to unravel a dangerous case of poison and deceit in a world filled with secrecy and superstition.

Actors Needed for YOU’VE CAUGHT US IN OUR SHORTS…FOR THE 7TH TIME at Sunset Players

Sunset Players Presents: YOU’VE CAUGHT US IN OUR SHORTS…FOR THE 7TH TIME, a night of short one act plays.

Show runs March 14-22. Rehearsals begin in January.

Director Logan Dunn is seeking two male actors to fill roles in the short play “Enigma Variations” by David Ives.

“Zany hijinks as a pair of lookalikes named Bebe WW Doppler-gängler solve an identity crisis with the help of Dr. William W Williams and his nurse Fifi, who may or may not be Aphrodite, the goddess of love. Or is she a male gym teacher in a dress?”

Characters:
Bill 1: Nerdy and serious psychiatrist. Age 20’s-30’s
Bill 2: Same as Bill 1. Is his mirror on stage. Age 20’s-30’s

Casting Call for Actor/Vocalists for CABARET ON THE RUNWAY at Ghostlight Stage Company

Company: The Ghostlight Stage Company – Cincinnati, Ohio

Performance Venue: Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park

Rehearsal Space: TBD – Greater Cincinnati & Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park

SEEKING: Actor/vocalists to perform in The Ghostlight Stage Company’s Cabaret on the Runway event on March 24, 2025

Pay Rate: $15/hour (estimated $240 total for approx. 15-16 hours of work required)

About the Event:  Join us for a night of fashion AND musical theater, as we present a fashion show featuring 4 different designers, all set to the sounds of live musical theater entertainment. Our fashion designers will each be creating new collections inspired by a Broadway musical of their choice. During the show, there will be a cabaret style performance where live musicians will be performing songs of the designer’s choosing. This will all take place in the beautiful new Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park grand lobby.

All initial auditions will be held via self tape submission. There may be in person or live zoom callbacks, if needed.

What to Prepare: Please submit 2 contrasting song cuts of 1-2 minutes in length each that are from one of the following musicals: Mary Poppins, Chicago, Sweeney Todd, and In the Heights. Please showcase your ability to rap, if that is a skill you have. In your video submission please state your name, followed by your 2 songs. Songs you submit with your audition should be reflective of you as a performer in the world of this material.

Deadline for Submission: Videos will be accepted on a rolling basis until December 20, 2024 at 11:59pm EST. All casting decisions will be made by early January.

The Ghostlight Stage Company is not able to provide housing or travel compensation to any cast or creative team member at this time. Please do not apply if you will require this. 

Production Schedule

1st Possible Rehearsal: March 15, 2025

Final Dress: March 23, 2025 (needed from approx. 6pm-10pm)

Performance Date: March 24, 2025 (needed from approx. 5:30pm-9:30pm, with the show starting at 7pm)

There will be 3 3-hour rehearsals between March 15-22. A final dress will be on March 23. The performance will be on March 24. The performance should last approximately 1 hour.

Vocalists will be given recordings to practice with at least a month in advance. All performers will be expected to come to the first rehearsal off book.

Breakdown:

The Ghostlight Stage Company is seeking 4 vocalists to sing songs from Mary Poppins, Sweeney Todd, Chicago, and In the Heights. We encourage performers of all gender identities to apply. BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ performers are highly encouraged to audition, as we seek to uplift the voices and talents of underrepresented artists.

Vocalist 1: Latinx/Hispanic. Any gender. To sing typically male-identifying character songs. Ability to rap is preferred.

Vocalist 2: Any ethnicity. Any gender. Mezzo Soprano to Soprano range. To sing typically female-identifying character songs. Ability to sing in crossover style and a more “legit” musical theater tone is preferred.

Vocalist 3: Latinx/Hispanic. Any gender. To sing typically female-identifying character songs. A strong belt or musical theater mix is preferred.

Vocalist 4: Any ethnicity. Any gender. To sing a variety of all gender identifying character songs. All vocal ranges welcome.

Casting Call for JUDITH, DELIVER US at One Off Productions

JUDITH, DELIVER US is a folk musical set in a 1920s coal town and deals with issues of fair labor practices and autonomy of person and place.

This show is slated to premiere in late 2025 and is in-development. Creative team includes Hannah Gregory as playwright, composer, and lyricist; Jen Joplin as director; and Cary Davenport as music director/arranger and additional composition.

Now casting for the following roles:

  • Osiah (male, 40s-60s) – coal worker, wise, tired. Supporting role, requires strong singing and acting
  • George (male, 20s-40s) – corporate goon. Minimal lines, but choral singing and fight experience a plus.
  • Orlo (male, 20s-40s) – corporate goon. Minimal lines, but choral singing and fight experience a plus.

Casting Call for Indy Film MUSIC LESSONS

Music Lessons – A short film by Dakota Summer

A lonely college graduate takes in an eccentric homeless teenager after almost being robbed by him.

“MUSIC LESSONS” is a tale of two vastly different and misunderstood young men attempting to navigate a friendship. This short realist-drama aims to capture the spark, rocky development, and eventual fallout of a friendship that is bound to fail.

Characters

  • LOGAN Male / Lead / All Ethnicities / 21-25.  Logan is a fresh college graduate living alone in his house. He is closed-off, lonely, and uncertain about what to do with his life. He majored in business, but even after four years of studying he hasn’t chosen a career path quite yet. He spends his time working out, pursuing random passions, and visiting family.
  • LEE: Male / Lead / All Ethnicities / 17-20. Lee is an eccentric, sensitive teenager, barely making it by on the streets as a petty criminal. He experiences a great deal of anxiety much of the time. He often mutters to himself and flies his hands about. He never seems to hold on to one topic, having a very difficult time focusing. Lee is erratic and unpredictable, making for uncomfortable social situations. Ultimately, he wants to be liked and accepted.
  • JAN Female / Supporting / All Ethnicities / Early 50s. Logan’s mom, an exhausted but warm force of nature, doing her best to keep the peace.
  • SAL Male / Supporting / All Ethnicities / Mid 50s. Logan’s dad, gruff and slightly intimidating. He’s easy to anger.

Location: Northern Kentucky Area

Pay: No pay. Meals and snacks will be provided, and mileage will be reimbursed.

Shooting dates: Weekends in late November and early December
