We are also particularly interested in comics who sing.

Auditions Announced for THE TRIALS OF ROBIN HOOD by Beechmont Players Inc.

BPI_logoThe Players are getting ready for the Summer 2015 family-friendly show, THE TRIALS OF ROBIN HOOD, directed by Lynne Aronson and co-produced by Donna Surber and Stephanie Mooney.

Audition details:
7 p.m. Monday, May 11, and 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, with callbacks, if needed, at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13. Auditions will be held at the Anderson Center Theatre (7850 Five Mile Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45230).

Please bring a resume, and headshots will be taken. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.

Rehearsals will be held on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday starting Monday, June 8. The run of the show is August 7-15, 2015.

Show synopsis:
Robin Hood is on trial for crimes against the state. The true facts are somewhat loose and confused and depend totally on who is telling them. There is the Lusty Robin version, the Lovelorn Robin version and the Silly Robin version and the audience will decide on the real story.

All of the familiar characters are in the show, but nothing is what you would expect. We are not looking for a British dialect.

Character descriptions:
There are approximately 30 roles. We will need a variety of actors, all ages and types, who can play many different roles. We also will be looking for people who are willing to be onstage crew/dressers. You will essentially be in the company and are important.

The descriptions below are not complete, as many will be playing several roles:

  • Lusty, Lovelorn and Silly Robin Hood are all the same and all different but still Robin. We will likely use two men to play the three roles.
  • Maid Marian is a lovely young woman and Ward of King Richard. Hates Guy of Gisborne.
  • King Richard is the leader of England and fights in the Crusades and sort of forgets England.
  • Prince John is Richard’s evil brother who Richard leaves in charge. Big mistake.
  • Sheriff of Nottingham is a no goodnik, who cares more about money. Oh yes, he wants to kill all of the Robin Hoods.
  • Guy of Gisborne is a dolt, crazy for Marian and money, not necessarily in that order.
  • Edward of Locksley and Esmerelda of Locksley are the parents of Robin. He goes off to the Crusades, and we’re not sure what happens to Esmerelda.
  • Archery Butt and the Royal Deer. Poor souls, people are always shooting arrows at them.
  • Robin’s Merry Men consist of Little John, Friar Tuck, Alan A Dale, Will (also Willa) Scarlet, Nathaniel Piper, William Church and Daniel Boyle.
  • Then there’s Much the Miller’s Son and Madge the Miller’s Daughter (same actor).
  • The Sheriff of Nottingham also has his soldiers, Bart Common, Finn Lucky and Tobias.

There are several other roles but all of them will be double cast with the above characters.

Please contact Lynne Aronson at 513.624.8665 for further information.

About the Play

Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, SHREK tThe Musical is a TONY Award-winning fairy tale adventure featuring all new songs from Jeanine Tesori (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Caroline or Change) and a sidesplitting book by David Lindsay-Abaire. Shrek brings all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage, and proves there’s more to the story than meets the ears.

“Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek…” And thus begins the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude, and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you’ve got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there’s one on hand…and his name is Shrek.

SHREK presents a treasure trove of creative opportunities including costumes, sets, puppets ( there is a fire-breathing dragon after all), and more! Irreverently fun for the whole family, Shrek proves that beauty is truly in the eye of the ogre.
