Auditions Announced for WHO’S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOLFF? at CenterStage Players

CSPOH_logoCenterStage Players is excited to announce auditions for the Tony Award winning play WHO’S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOLFF? by Edward Albee. Directed by Lynne Aronson and produced by Dee Dunn.

Auditions will be held at the North Colllege Hill City Center 1500 W. Galbraith Rd. 45231 on Sunday August 16 and Tuesday August 18 from 7 to 9pm. Callbacks, if necessary, will be held Wednesday August 19 form 7 to 9pm.

Performances February 5, 6, 7, 11, 12, 13, 2016.

The director encourages you to be familiar with the play before the auditions. You will be asked to read from the script and no appointment is necessary. Please bring a resume and current picture, if you have one, and your calendar, as we will ask you about conflicts in the late fall, 2015, and winter, 2016.

WHO’S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOLFF? is an emotional rollercoaster between George, a college history professor and his wife Martha, daughter of the college president, and Nick, a new professor in the biology department and his wife, Honey. Illusion and reality are nebulous and never clear. The morals and mores of the 1950’s, wherein families consisted of husband, wife and two perfect children living in the suburbs, is questioned and exposed. Alcohol is used to self-medicate and the mental stability of all of them is in question.

Needed are 2 men and 2 women.

  • MARTHA: 52, but looks somewhat younger. A large boisterous woman, ample, but not fleshy.
  • GEORGE: Her husband, age 46. Thin, hair going gray.
  • HONEY: 26, a petite blond young woman, rather plain looking.
  • NICK: 28, her husband. Blond and well put together, good looking.

Auditions Announced for UNNECESSARY FARCE at The Drama Workshop

The Drama Workshop presents auditions for UNNECESSARY FARCE
Written by Paul Slade Smith
Directed & produced by Ray Persing

TDW_VERTAuditions will be Sept 21 & 22, 2015, at The Glenmore Playhouse, 3716 Glenmore Ave, Cheviot, OH 45211. Doors will open at 6:30pm, and auditions will begin promptly at 7pm. Actors are asked to bring a resume and headshot, and will audition singly and in groups. Auditions will run no later than 9 pm, and may end earlier. Updates will be posted on the TDW Facebook page.

Show dates are February 26, 2016 through March 13, 2016. Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 pm, Sunday afternoon at 2 pm. Call time is 1 ½ hours before curtain, unless other arrangements are made with the stage manager.

The director is seeking seven actors. Needed: 3 women (20s-70s) and 4 men (ages 20-60s). Performers of all ethnic and racial backgrounds are encouraged to audition.

ABOUT THE SHOW: Two cops. Three crooks. Eight doors. Go. It’s the perfect setup for a laugh-filled evening at the theatre. In a cheap motel room, an embezzling mayor is supposed to meet with his female accountant, while in the room next door, two undercover cops wait to catch the meeting on videotape. But there’s some confusion as to who’s in which room, who’s being videotaped, who’s taken the money, who’s hired a hit man, and why the accountant can’t seem to keep her clothes on. In this side-splitting escapade, playwright Paul Slade Smith has reinvented the in-one-door innuendo, and out-the-other-door comic shtick.

  • ERIC SHERIDAN (Male, 30s) – a police officer. Bookish, even-keeled guy who finds himself completely out of his element when called upon to express his feelings for a woman, lie to his boss, disguise himself as someone else, and stand up to an armed mobster – while not wearing any pants.
  • BILLIE DWYER (Female, 20s/30s) – a police officer, Eric’s partner. Excitable and entirely un-threatening, she seemingly lacks every skill necessary for police work, but is as eager to succeed as she seems destined to fail.
  • KAREN BROWN (Female, 30s) – an accountant, who has always taken pride in her accountant-like, professional demeanor….until this morning, when she finds herself filled with a sexual hunger, and unable to keep things in.
  • MAYOR MEEKLY (Male, 40s-70s) – an Innocent, with a capital I. An affable, gentle fellow. Not too quick on the pick-up, but a sweet, sweet soul.
  • AGENT FRANK (Male, 20s – 50s) – the head of Security at Town Hall, and frankly, the wrong man for the job. Though he presents the confident, gruff exterior of a secret service agent (or film noir detective, even), he is frequently (and, at moments of crisis, invariably) a man frightened by his own shadow.
  • TODD (Male, 20s-50s) – speaks with a pronounced Scottish accent. A professional hitman. Cool, quiet, and perceptive when at his best, but more frequently an angry Scotsman – and the angrier he becomes, the thicker his accent gets, until he is entirely indecipherable.
  • MARY MEEKLY (Female, 40s-70s) – the Mayor’s wife. Small in stature and unfailingly sweet, she seems, in every way, the perfect match for her husband.

Actors who are selected will be contacted by the director. The practice of The Drama Workshop is to notify all auditioners via email of results once the show is cast, after which a cast list will be posted on the TDW website and Facebook page. Those without email who are not cast will not be contacted individually.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:

Please bring a current headshot and résumé. No prepared monologue is required. Auditions will consist of readings from the script. Callbacks, if needed, will be at the director’s discretion. Bring your calendar and be prepared to list all conflicts. Conflicts not listed at time of audition may not be honored. Those who are cast will be expected to assist with the staging, advertising, or some other aspect of the production.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Ray Persing at 937.877.6116 or at trpersing@gmail.com.
