THE IRISH CURSE
Written by: Martin Casella
Directed by: Charley Shafor

The Irish Curse is a revealing portrait of how men, and society, define masculinity. In doing so, it dares to pose the fundamental question that has been on the minds of men since the beginning of time: “Do I measure up to the next guy?” Size matters to a small group of Irish-American men (all professionally successful New Yorkers) who meet every Wednesday night, in a Catholic church basement, at a self-help group for men with small penises. This alleged Irish trait is the focus of their weekly sessions, as they all feel this “shortcoming” has ruined their lives. One evening, when a twenty-something blue-collar guy joins the group, he challenges everything the other men think about “the Irish Curse” …tackling their obsession with body image and unmasking the comical and truthful questions of identity, masculinity, sex and relationships that men must face every day in the world.

BIG FISH explores the relationship between a traveling salesman and his son, who’s looking for truth in his father’s tall tales.

BIG FISH is a new Broadway musical featuring music and lyrics by Tony nominee Andrew Lippa (The Addams Family, The Wild Party) and a new book by esteemed screenwriter John August (Big Fish, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory).

Based on the celebrated novel by Daniel Wallace and the acclaimed film directed by Tim Burton, BIG FISH centers on Edward Bloom, a traveling salesman who lives life to its fullest… and then some! Edward’s incredible, larger-than-life stories thrill everyone around him – most of all, his devoted wife Sandra. But their son Will, about to have a child of his own, is determined to find the truth behind his father’s epic tales.

Overflowing with heart, humor and spectacular stagecraft, BIG FISH is an extraordinary new Broadway musical that reminds us why we love going to the theatre – for an experience that’s richer, funnier and BIGGER than life itself.

For the cast breakdown including vocal ranges, please visit www.cincinnatimusictheatre.org.

“A rollicking fantasy set in the American South, Big Fish centers on the charismatic Edward Bloom, whose impossible stories of his epic adventures frustrate his son Will. As Edward’s final chapter approaches, Will embarks on his own journey to find out who his father really is, revealing the man behind the myth, the truth from the tall tales.” -Playbill.com

Auditions Announced for FIVE WOMEN WEARING THE SAME DRESS at Beavercreek Community Theatre

bctOpen auditions for FIVE WOMEN WEARING THE SAME DRESS at Beavercreek Community Theatre, 3868 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, OH 45432.

Auditions are November 16-17 at 7PM

Directed by Debra Kent

During an ostentatious wedding reception at a Knoxville, Tennessee, estate, five reluctant, identically clad bridesmaids hide out in an upstairs bedroom, each with her own reason to avoid the proceedings below. They are Frances, a painfully sweet but sheltered fundamentalist; Mindy, the cheerful, wise-cracking lesbian sister of the groom; Georgeanne, whose heartbreak over her own failed marriage triggers outrageous behavior; Meredith, the bride’s younger sister whose precocious rebelliousness masks a dark secret; and Trisha, a jaded beauty whose die-hard cynicism about men is called into question when she meets Tripp, a charming bad-boy usher to whom there is more than meets the eye. As the afternoon wears on, these five very different women joyously discover a common bond in this wickedly funny, irreverent and touching celebration of the women’s spirit.

  • Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.
  • A résumé and headshot are not required, but are encouraged.
  • Please bring all conflicts between 11/18/2015 and 1/31/2016, including any holiday plans. (The director will take those conflicts into consideration and intends to give time off during the holidays. The dates will be determined after the show is cast.)
  • For further information, email: dannkent@aol.com

Roles include:

  • Frances – bridesmaid. Sweet, religious. Has led a sheltered life.
  • Meredith – bridesmaid. Sister of the bride. Lives at home. Precocious, rebellious.
  • Trisha – bridesmaid. A faded beauty, glamorous; was always the pretty one.
  • Georgeanne – bridesmaid. In a failed married; not afraid to be outrageous; sleeps around.
  • Mindy – bridesmaid. Attractive, gay, loves to eat, sister of the groom. Country club socialite.
  • Tripp – an usher who is smitten with Trisha; there is more to him than meets the eye.

Performances are Jan. 22-31.
