Auditions Announced for HOME BREW THEATRE V at The Drama Workshop

TDW_Home Brew 5 logoThe Drama Workshop is holding open auditions for HOME BREW THEATRE V, our showcase of short plays by local authors. Performance dates: January 14-16, 2022.

This year there are nine plays and one musical.

In Person Auditions:

Sunday October 24, 2021

  • Play auditions: 4-6pm
  • Musical Auditions: 6-6:45pm

Monday October 25, 2021

  • Play auditions 6-8pm

Home Brew is TDW’s showcase of short plays by local authors, accompanied by a reception featuring beer from a local brewery. This year Home Brew will have either 3 or 4 performances over the weekend of January 14-16, 2022, (possibly including a Saturday matinee).

Everyone associated with the production is required to be vaccinated against Covid-19, including all people auditioning. Please bring your vaccination record with you to auditions, or email an image of it to tdw.homebrew@gmail.com.

There are a variety of roles for actors of all genders and ages, teenager and above. It’s possible for an actor to be cast in more than one play (up to three), depending on rehearsal schedule availability.

Note: For the first time ever, there is a short musical as part of Home Brew!! Musical auditions are separate. See below.

You may audition in person or via video submission.

There are 10 directors for the 10 short plays. Auditions will be in front of a panel of the directors, and will be recorded on video for directors who can’t be present. Auditions will consist of readings from selected Home Brew scripts. Please use the SignUp Genius to pick a slot so we don’t overcrowd the space. (15 slots per hour)

Once signed up you will receive a link to the full scripts, and to the selected audition sides. You will also receive an audition form to fill out.

Musical Auditions at The Glenmore Playhouse

Pick a slot in the SignupGenius (link above) for the musical auditions as well. If planning to audition for plays and the musical, please secure a timeslot for each. The musical has three teen female roles: Sop1, Sop2, and Alto. Please be prepared to do a cold reading from the script and bring 32 bars of sheet music for a song that shows your range and voice quality. An accompanist will be provided.

VIDEO AUDITIONS. If you can’t attend in-person auditions, you are encouraged to submit a video audition instead. Video auditions should consist of 2 short monologues, which you can select from the material at this location:

Be sure to start your video with a “slate” which includes your name and “Home Brew Five audition.” The two monologues can be on two separate videos.

If you are submitting an audition via video for the short musical “Puddle Jumpers”, please submit the above monologues videos as well a separate musical audition. For the musical audition, slate your video with your name, vocal range, (Soprano 1, Soprano 2, Alto, etc). Perform 32 bars of a vocal selection with accompaniment.

Six Roles, two of which have been precast. Remaining: GREG: Man, 50s. ANDREA: Woman, 40s. RICK: Man, 30s. JOHN: Zombie man, 40s. 

PUDDLE JUMPERS a musical by Fred Tacon.
Directed by Lynne Aronson.

Short Musical featuring three teen girls ages 13-15 years old. Three roles. HOLLY, brainy, into science and math. Socially awkward-Sop. 2; BECCA, Fashionista, popular and having a very bad morning-Sop. 1.; ZITH, gamer, into D&D, Pokemon and video games. Friendly and hyperactive-Alto.

GENERAL NOTES If cast, each actor will be required to become a member of The Drama Workshop ($20 individual membership), and to sign a code of conduct agreement.

Auditions Announced for PICASSO AT THE LAPIN AGILE at Beavercreek Community Theatre

Please be prepared to read from the script. Please bring a list of all potential conflicts including travel, etc.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS:

  • Freddy — Male (25-35). Freddy is the owner and bartender of the Lapin Agile-He is gullible, but has occasional bouts of genius; an ordinary guy.
  • Gaston — Male (an older man). A bit of a dirty old Frenchman with prostate problems (“I have to pee!”)-Gaston was a philanderer in his day, interested in drinking and sex.
  • Germaine — Female (25-30). Freddy’s girlfriend-A wise girl who knows her way around; somewhat bored with life.
  • Albert Einstein — Male (25). [Age may be open to someone who reads older; he is 25, but according to the script looks much older].- Albert is an idealistic nerd and passionate about his work. He is enthusiastic, but not boastful or arrogant.
  • Suzanne — Female (18-25). A young ingénue type. Suzanne is somewhat naïve, although she doesn’t think so; may double as a female admirer.
  • Sagot — Male (age open, likely over 30). An art dealer, the character of Sagot is open to interpretation — but must bring energy to the role.
  • Picasso — Male (23)-He’s arrogant, pompous, and egotistical — but with a smattering of insecurities showing through. A lady’s man, with very little regard for the women he uses (then casts aside).
  • Charles Dabernow Schmendiman — Male (25-30). Charles is a crazy inventor — think “wild and crazy guy.” Schmendiman thinks all kinds of nutty stuff-Must have excellent comedic timing and be able to play way over the top.
  • The Countess — Female (25-30). She’s Einstein’s lady interest. The Countess is rich, but also a nerd and quirky; may double as a female admirer.
  • A female admirer — Female (25-30)-She’s a huge fan of Schmendiman; may double as the Countess or Suzanne.
  • A Visitor — Male (25). A young Elvis; must be able to impersonate Elvis physically, especially the hip move-This role does not sing.

SYNOPSIS:
This long running Off Broadway absurdist comedy places Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso in a Parisian cafe in 1904, just before the renowned scientist transformed physics with his theory of relativity and the celebrated painter set the art world afire with cubism. In his first comedy for the stage, the popular actor and screenwriter plays fast and loose with fact, fame, and fortune as these two geniuses muse on the century’s achievements and prospects, as well as other fanciful topics, with infectious dizziness.

Auditions Announced for SYLVIA at Village Players

VP_logoVillage Players is excited to announce auditions for SYLVIA directed by Steven Ducker!

Auditions will take place Friday October 22nd at 7pm and Saturday October 23rd at noon at Village Players in Fort Thomas.

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Masks are required during the audition process. Resumes required, headshots preferred.

Greg and Kate have moved to Manhattan after twenty-two years of child-raising in the suburbs. Greg’s career as a financial trader is winding down, while Kate’s career as a public school English teacher is beginning to offer her more opportunities. Greg brings home a dog he found in the park—or which has found him—bearing only the name “Sylvia” on her name tag. A street-smart mixture of Lab and poodle, Sylvia becomes a major bone of contention between husband and wife. She offers Greg an escape from the frustrations of his job and the unknowns of middle age. To Kate, Sylvia becomes a rival for affection. And Sylvia thinks Kate just doesn’t understand the relationship between man and dog. The marriage is put in serious jeopardy until, after a series of hilarious and touching complications, Greg and Kate learn to compromise, and Sylvia becomes a valued part of their lives.

Sylvia (Female, 20s) – A stray dog found by Greg; she is lively and expressive, attractive; though she does not move on hands and knees for most of the play she will at times and, the role requires a degree of physicality and an ability to be uninhibited; actress should be convincing as a cute, bouncy female “labradoodle” . Strong comedic timing is essential.

Greg (Male, 40s, 50s) – Displays a wide range of quiet male emotion; he loves his suddenly –adopted dog Sylvia but seems to be going through an early midlife crisis in his work and his marriage.

Kate (Female, 40s, 50s) – Greg’s wife is a strong woman whose teaching career is on an upswing; she has little use for Greg’s issues and even less for his newfound best friend, Sylvia.

Tom, Phyllis, Leslie (Any Age – Actor plays all three roles) – Tom is a regular macho guy who educates Greg about dog ownership. Phyllis is a hotshot Manhattanite, Kate’s friend from college, and is prone to drama and drinking. Leslie is a psychotherapist whose gender is open to question.

Performance dates are April 29-May 7.

Williamstown, KY – Stage Right Musical Theatre Company is thrilled to announce auditions for its upcoming holiday show THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER THE MUSICAL running December 3 – 19. All Roles Available with weekend rehearsals beginning November 5. Seeking any and all actors ages 7 and older!

“The Herdmans are the worst kids in the history of the world! That’s a fact! So what happens when the worst kids in history come to Sunday school and take leading roles in the Christmas pageant? Fighting in Bethlehem, cigar-smoking in the manger, and a town in panic! The Herdmans have never heard the Christmas story but they definitely have rewrites! It’s up to the pageant director to help everyone see the Christmas story and the Herdman kids through new eyes in this buoyant musical adaptation of the funny and touching holiday classic. A silent night? Anything but this Christmas at Stage Right!”

ADULTS: Adults may submit auditions online for this production. To audition please visit www.stagerightmtc.org/auditions. In the form you will be given the opportunity to either email a video or submit a link to your audition. All Adults Roles are PAID. Deadline to submit is Oct. 23 at midnight.

Auditions consist of presenting a 1-minute comedic monologue and 16 bars of a Christmas Song that best shows your range.

KIDS: Kid Auditions will take place October 23 from 1pm – 4pm at Main Street Gardens in Williamstown. Kids 7 years and older can sign up for an audition slot at www.StageRightMTC.org/auditions. Kids should prepare 16 bars of a Christmas Song and be ready to move at auditions. Masks will be required while in the building, except for when directly auditioning.

All Auditionees should be prepared to submit a resume and headshot.

AMOUR, a charming two-act romantic fantasy by legendary composer Michel Legrand, featuring witty lyrics by Jeremy Sams and a fanciful libretto by Didier van Cauwelaert, is based on a beloved French short story written by Marcel Aymé in 1941.

COVID POLICY
Masks will be required at the audition, except when singing your vocal selection. Unless circumstances change, masks will be required at rehearsals and at the theatre, except when on stage.

WHAT TO PREPARE
Amour is completely sung-through. With that in mind, please prepare one minute of an appropriate Broadway-style song that shows your personality and your ability to believably tell a story through song.

An accompanist will be provided. You may be asked to stay and learn vocal selections from the show. You will not be asked to dance. Please bring sheet music for the accompanist. No recordings or tracks will be permitted.

CASTING
This is an ensemble musical with a small, adult cast, playing mostly quirky characters. Some roles are larger than others, but everyone will be featured, so the entire cast must be excellent singers/actors.

REHEARSALS
Rehearsals will begin the week of January 2nd and will be four nights/week (nights TBD) until the week before tech week. Tech week begins February 6th.

Performances are set for February 10-13, 2022.
