Directed by Elizabeth Harris

Cast: Michael Shooner as Robert & Aaron Epstein as John

Prize-winning author David Mamet, takes us into the lives of two actors: John, young and rising into the first flush of his success; the other Robert, older, anxious, and beginning to wane. In a series of short, spare, and increasingly raw exchanges, we see the estrangement of youth from age and the wider, inevitable and endless cycle of life, in and out of the theatre.

CABARET Runs April 12-15

CABARET-printCABARET
Xavier University Theatre
April 12-15
Gallagher Student Center Theatre [Evanston]

In a Berlin nightclub, as the 1920’s draw to a close, a garish Master of Ceremonies welcomes the audience and assures them they will forget all their troubles at the CABARET. Cliff, a young American writer newly arrived in Berlin, is immediately taken by English singer Sally Bowles. Meanwhile, Fräulein Schneider, proprietor of Cliff and Sally’s boardinghouse, tentatively begins a romance with Herr Schultz, a mild-mannered fruit seller who happens to be Jewish. With the Emcee’s bawdy songs as wry commentary, and notable hits as “Cabaret” and “Maybe This Time,” CABARET explores the dark, heady, and tumultuous life of Berlin’s natives and expatriates as Germany slowly yields to the emerging Third Reich.
