The annual awards banquet is a major event for the Wheaton Book Club. This year’s theme, Eat, Drink, Murder, drew novelists from all over the country, but there are only two lucky finalists, nationally famous author Angela X Crispy, and Kat Fisher, first time novelist and local favorite. President Weldon Burger has planned a fantastic evening that will culminate with the awarding of $1000 in cash by a surprise guest speaker, an actor Weldon has hired to impersonate Sherlock Holmes. Unfortunately, the evening becomes a fiasco when the two novelists take their rivalry public. To top it off, the guest speaker turns out to be a shock rather than a surprise. Will it end in murder?

BEDTIME STORIES (AS TOLD BY OUR DAD) (WHO MESSED THEM UP) Runs July 11-12

BEDTIME STORIES (AS TOLD BY OUR DAD) (WHO MESSED THEM UP)
Village Players NextGen
Runs July 11-12
[Fort Thomas]

Directed by Ella Deavy and Autumn Ashford

It’s Dad’s turn to tell his three rambunctious kids their bedtime stories, but when he gets fuzzy on the details, the classics get creative: a prince with a snoring problem spices up The Princess and The Pea, The Boy Who Cried Wolf cries dinosaur instead, and Rumpelstiltskin helps turn all that pesky gold into straw. You may think you know your fairy tales, but not the way Dad tells them.

THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF MADISON GILES Runs July 10-12

THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF MADISON GILES
Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati Professional Apprentice Company
July 10-12
Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati [Over-the-Rhine]

Written & directed by Torie Wiggins

Cast: Char Adams as Van, Leonardo Clark as Hunter, Abigail Dirr as Heather, Amira F. Jackson as Nicole & Elliet Malatesta as D.G.

A messy, funny, and emotional story about what happens after someone dies, leaving behind more questions than answers. When Madison dies, her friends, exes, and family are pulled together to go through her final wishes—except nothing goes the way they expect. Through letters, secrets, and awkward confessions, everyone has to face who Madison really was, and who they were to her. Madison’s voice, though absent in life, is loud in death—pulling the characters (and the audience) into a story about grief, love, queerness, complicated friendships, and the weird, beautiful chaos of trying to move on when someone still has a hold on you—even from the grave.
