Auditions Announced for GOONEY BIRD GREENE at Beavercreek Community Theatre

bctJan. 7 & 8 at 7pm

Beavercreek Community Theatre
3868 Dayton Xenia Rd, Beavercreek, Ohio 45432

Performances: March 1-10, 2019

Auditioners will be required to come to only one night of auditions, with the possibility of callbacks at a later date in the same week. Please come early to fill out paperwork, and please come prepared with a headshot and resume if you have one and all your conflicts that you have during the run of the show.

Summer has come to a crashing halt in the little town of Watertower. The kids don’t want to be back in school; they are listless and bored. Suddenly, the classroom door bursts open and there, wearing pajamas and cowboy boots, stands red-headed Gooney Bird Greene! “Hi! My name is Gooney Bird Greene—that’s like the color with a silent ‘e’ on the end and I like to be smack in the middle of everything!” The class is never the same again. Gooney Bird speaks with confidence and dresses in outrageous outfits including Capri pants, blue knee socks, high-topped basketball sneakers, and elbow-length black gloves. But most wondrous of all, she casts herself as the hero in the most improbable, outlandish stories: how she arrived from China on a flying carpet, how she got a lovely pair of diamond earrings at the local palace, how she directed a symphony orchestra while driving through the center of town, and how her beloved cat, Catman, was consumed by a cow! Are these stories really true? Of course they are because, as Gooney Bird proudly proclaims, she only tells “absolutely true stories!” In blending funny and memorable characters with colorful details and her distinctive flair for suspense, Gooney Bird awakens the students’ dormant imaginations. They come to realize their lives are as unique as Gooney Bird’s and that they, too, can cast themselves as the heroes in their own true tales of discovery and adventure.

OVER THE RIVER AND THROUGH THE WOODS Runs Jan. 18-20

TCP_Over the River and Through the Woods logoOVER THE RIVER AND THROUGH THE WOODS
Tree County Players
Jan. 18-20
Main St. Playhouse [Greensburg, Ind.]

Directed by Amanda Gault

Cast: Peter Harrah as Nick Cristano, Jeff Lincourt as Frank Gianelli, Cathy Lincourt as Aida Gianelli, Jim Pruett as Nunzio Cristano, Sue Menefee as Emma Cristano & Katy Prairie as Caitlin O’Hare

Nick is a single, Italian-American guy from New Jersey. His parents retired and moved to Florida. That doesn’t mean his family isn’t still in Jersey. In fact, he sees both sets of his grandparents every Sunday for dinner. This is routine until he has to tell them that he’s been offered a dream job. The job he’s been waiting for – marketing executive – would take him away from his beloved, but annoying, grandparents. He tells them. The news doesn’t sit so well. Thus begins a series of schemes to keep Nick around. How could he betray his family’s love to move to Seattle, for a job, wonder his grandparents? Well, Frank, Aida, Nunzio, and Emma do their level best, and that includes bringing the lovely – and single – Caitlin O’Hare as bait…we won’t give the ending away here.

La Comedia Dinner Theatre
Jan. 17-Feb. 17

ALMOST HEAVEN weaves together the songs of John Denver to create a uniquely theatrical narrative that reflects upon the country during the years in which he wrote them. Twenty-nine of Denver’s songs – including “Rocky Mountain High,” “Sunshine on My Shoulders,” “Annie’s Song,” “Leaving on a Jet Plane,” “Calypso” and more – are rediscovered and reinvented, performed against a backdrop of stunning visual images of America in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s,a time of political upheaval, yet great beauty and hope.

Quasimodo, the outcast with a heart of gold longs to join the city of Paris during the Feast of Fools. Quasimodo isn’t the only one captivated by her free spirit, though – the handsome Captain Phoebus and Frollo are equally enthralled. As the three vie for her attention, Frollo embarks on a mission to destroy the gypsies – and it’s up to Quasimodo to save them all.
