Auditions Announced for A LONG WAY OFF at Merit Theatre Company

MTC_logoAuditions for the Regional Premiere of A LONG WAY OFF, A NEW MUSICAL

Devoted daughter and fiancé Hannah Collier is recently engaged, but puts her wedding on hold to seek out her estranged brother Hunter, who left home years earlier. Having squandered all of his money and finding himself destitute and alone in the wake of the Great Depression, Hunter is a broken man. Hannah sets out to find her brother, convince him to come home, and finally bring peace to her grieving father. Meanwhile, her fiancé Bennett eagerly works hard to prove himself back at home in Crawford County, but faces making a decision that could change everything. Together the family embarks on a journey of healing, hope, and forgiveness. This moving story of second chances reminds us that life is a gift and asks us: what will we do with ours?

The Academy Award-winning team of Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz creates a lushly scored retelling of Victor Hugo’s epic story. Set in 15th century Paris, this powerful story focuses on Quasimodo, the misshapen but gentle-souled bell ringer of Notre Dame, who is held captive in the bell tower by his devious caretaker.  On the day of the Feast of Fools, Quasimodo manages to escape and join the boisterous crowd of revelers. He is treated cruelly by all except the beautiful and free-spirited gypsy, Esmeralda. During his one day “Out There,” Quasimodo must strive to find love, acceptance and what it means to be a hero.
