STOMP Returns to the Aronoff Center for 3 Performances Only

BIC_StompTHE INTERNATIONAL PERCUSSION SENSATION
COMES TO THE ARONOFF CENTER OCTOBER 11 – 12

CINCINNATI:  Broadway in Cincinnati is thrilled to announce that STOMP, the international percussion sensation, returns to Cincinnati for 3 performances only.  STOMP will play the Aronoff Center October 11 12 as a special engagement in the 24/25 Broadway in Cincinnati season presented by Tri-Health. From its beginnings as a street performance in the UK and now entering its 30th year of touring, STOMP has grown into an international sensation, having performed in more than 50 countries and in front of more than 26 million people. Tickets will be available to the public later this summer.

Created by Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas, STOMP continues to tour North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia following 15 years in London’s West End and 29 years at New York’s Orpheum Theatre, and lengthy sit down productions in San Francisco, Boston and Las Vegas. Throughout its life, the show has continued to change by creating new material to bring music to everyday objects.  It is safe to say you will never again look at supermarket carts  or plumbing fixtures the same way… or paint cans, or kitchen sinks or…

STOMP, an overwhelming success marked by rave reviews, numerous awards, and sell-out engagements, is the winner of an Olivier Award for Best Choreography (London’s Tony Award), a New York Obie Award, a Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatre Experience, and a Special Citation from Best Plays.

In addition to the stage shows, STOMP has been an overwhelming success marked by rave reviews, numerous awards, an Academy Award nomination, four Emmy nominations and one Emmy Award for their acclaimed HBO special Stomp Out Loud, noteworthy TV appearances including The London 2012 Olympic Games Closing Ceremony, The Academy Awards (produced by Quincy Jones), Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, and a series of award-winning international commercials.

The performers “make a rhythm out of anything we can get our hands on that makes a sound,” says co-founder/director Luke Cresswell.  A unique combination of percussion, movement and visual comedy, STOMP has created its own inimitable, contemporary form of rhythmic expression: both household and industrial objects find new life as musical instruments in the hands of an idiosyncratic band of body percussionists.  It is a journey through sound, a celebration of the everyday and a comic interplay of characters wordlessly communicating through dance and drum.

Synchronized stiff-bristle brooms become a sweeping orchestra, eight Zippo lighters flip open and closed to create a fiery fugue; wooden poles thump and clack in a rhythmic explosion.  STOMP uses everything but conventional percussion instruments – dustbins, suitcases, radiator hoses, boots, hub caps – to fill the stage with a compelling and unique act that is often imitated but never duplicated.

Critics and audiences have raved: “STOMP is as crisp and exuberant as if it had opened yesterday,” says The New York Times. The San Francisco Chronicle declares “STOMP has a beat that just won’t quit!” The Los Angeles Times exclaims: “Electrifying! Triumphs in the infinite variety of the human experience.” “A phenomenal show! Bashing, crashing, smashing, swishing, banging and kicking – a joyous invention!” says the Chicago Tribune.

STOMP will play the Aronoff Center from October 11 – 12, 2024: Friday at 7:30PM, and Saturday at 2:00PM and 7:30PM. Tickets will go on sale to the public later this summer. For groups of 10 or more, contact the group sales department at 513.369.4363. Performance schedule, prices and cast are subject to change without notice. Cincy Shakes concludes its 30th Anniversary Season with the highly anticipated comedy that is already breaking Box Office records

Cincinnati, OH – May 22, 2024 – Get ready for an evening of side-splitting laughter and theatrical mayhem as Cincinnati Shakespeare Company proudly presents the uproarious comedy, The Play That Goes Wrong. Running from May 24 – June 16, 2024, this riotous production promises to be the comedy event of the season and is directed by Brian Isaac Phillips.  Penned by the talented trio Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, and Henry Shields, The Play That Goes Wrong has been described as “A GUT-BUSTING HIT!” by The New York Times. This show is a delightful disaster that has garnered acclaim from audiences and critics alike since its premiere. The production design is generously sponsored by Messer and Keybank.

About the Play
It’s Opening Night at the Cornley Drama Society, and they are staging their newest production, “The Murder at Haversham Manor.” The stakes have never been higher, but from the very beginning, nothing goes according to plan. The theater is plagued by accident-prone actors, a corpse that refuses to play dead, and a leading lady who’s knocked out cold. Amidst the chaos, the valiant (but hapless) actors struggle to reach the final curtain call without bringing down the house—literally.

This farcical fiasco celebrates the timeless theater adage that “the show must go wrong,” woops, we mean “the show must go on!”

Meet the Cast and Crew
Directed by CSC’s Producing Artistic Director, Brian Isaac Phillips, the production features an ensemble cast of CSC comedy veterans. Audiences will be delighted by the performances of Geoffrey Warren Barnes II, Darnell Pierre Benjamin, Billy Chace, Jared Earland, Jeremy Dubin, Candice Handy, Matthew Lewis Johnson, Justin McCombs, and Kelly Mengelkoch. Their comedic timing and chemistry bring this madcap play to life, ensuring non-stop laughter.

The production’s creative team includes Samantha Reno (Scenic Design), who creates the perfect set for chaos to ensue, and Rainy Edwards (Costume Design), who dresses the actors in era-appropriate attire that adds to the humor. Alice Trent (Lighting Design) illuminates the stage to enhance the comedic mishaps, while Chris Guthrie (Sound Design) provides sound effects that punctuate every comedic turn. Gina Cerimele-Mechley (Fight Choreography) choreographs the slapstick and physical comedy, and Kara Eble Trusty (Properties Design) ensures that every prop plays its part in the calamity. Stage Manager Cole Sweasy and Assistant Stage Manager Abby Sherr keep the backstage chaos under control.

A Comedy Sensation
Since its debut in London in 2012, “The Play That Goes Wrong” has become a global phenomenon. Its success caught the eye of producer-director J.J. Abrams, who brought the play to Broadway in 2017, where it was met with enthusiastic acclaim. This slapstick comedy has since become a favorite of theater companies nationwide, delighting audiences with its blend of physical comedy, witty dialogue, and sheer theatrical disaster.

Come Together, Cincy / Get Paul to Music Hall

co_logoThe region joins forces to invite music icon Paul McCartney to Cincinnati in celebration of his world stage premiere by Cincinnati Opera

CINCINNATI (May 22, 2024)—Today at Cincinnati Music Hall, Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval and Vice Mayor Jan-Michele Lemon Kearney joined leaders from Cincinnati Opera and partners from across the region to kick off a community-wide campaign around the Opera’s upcoming world stage premiere of Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Oratorio.

The summer-long initiative—“Come Together, Cincy! Get Paul to Music Hall!”—highlights why Sir Paul said “Yes!” to Cincinnati Opera and Cincinnati and why he should say “Yes!” to the community’s invitation to celebrate his world stage premiere here this July.

Cincinnati Opera brings McCartney’s hit classical piece, Liverpool Oratorio, a musical tribute to his hometown co-written with celebrated composer Carl Davis, to the opera stage for the first time July 18–27 at Music Hall. McCartney endorsed this new production in a letter to the company, saying, “I am writing to express my wholehearted support for this project. I believe that the Cincinnati Opera is uniquely positioned to bring this work to life in a new way, and I have no doubt that your production will be an inspiring experience for all who see it.”

So, will he come?

Organizations across Greater Cincinnati are partnering in a region-wide, collaborative effort to show him why he should.

Throughout the summer, opera and McCartney will be everywhere—from Metro buses, CVG airport, and Reds and FC Cincinnati games, to Washington Park, Fountain Square, the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, and Hard Rock Casino. It all kicks off this weekend with one of the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber’s biggest festivals, Taste of Cincinnati.

Partners have developed exciting events and activities for every level of McCartney, Beatles, or opera fan to join in the celebration and to shine a bright spotlight on all that makes the region so special. Visit GetPaulToMusicHall.org to learn about the participating partners and view a full calendar of “Come Together, Cincy! Get Paul to Music Hall!” events. The calendar will be updated weekly.

Residents of the Tristate are also invited to get in on the act by recording a video tribute to Sir Paul and posting it on social media using the hashtag #GetPaulToMusicHall. Tagged videos will be amplified by Cincinnati Opera and “Come Together, Cincy!” partners and shared with McCartney’s team.

Share this video from our partners (and special guests) to get the celebration started!

“We’re looking forward to launching the ‘Come Together, Cincy!’ campaign this weekend at Taste of Cincinnati, courtesy of our partners at the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber. Attendees can stop by the Opera booth and record their video tribute to Sir Paul by sharing a favorite memory or singing a snippet of a McCartney tune,” said Chris Milligan, The Harry Fath General Director & CEO of Cincinnati Opera. “Our region has so much to offer when it comes to unique attractions and experiences, and we’re tremendously grateful to Mayor Pureval, Vice Mayor Kearney, and our partners for embracing this moment with such an enthusiastic and collaborative spirit. Let’s get Paul to Music Hall!”

Tickets are still available to Cincinnati Opera’s production of Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Oratorio at Music Hall this July and the official opening night after-party, “To Sir, With Love.” Due to popular demand, Cincinnati Opera will offer an additional performance of Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Oratorio during its July run. Tickets and information are available at cincinnatiopera.org.
