Job Title: Major Gifts Officer
Starting Salary: $60,000

Position Overview
The Major Gifts Officer is a critical member of the development team, primarily managing major contributions to the Playhouse’s Annual Campaign and Directing the Future Capital Campaign. The Major Gifts Officer works collaboratively with the development team, executive staff and board-level volunteers in the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gifts for annual operations and for the capital campaign. The Major Gifts Officer is a full-time exempt position with benefits. Evening and weekend hours are often required.

Reports to: Director of Development

Position Responsibilities
Fundraising (75%)

  • Manages a portfolio of 150+ donors and prospects for the Playhouse capital and annual campaign with gifts ranging between $10,000-99,999. They will be actively identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding donors and prospects.
  • Develops a written cultivation plan for each donor in Portfolio, setting benchmarks for solicitation date and amount.
  • A focus on converting capital campaign donors to annual fund campaign supporters.
  • Meet annual goals for meaningful connections, solicitation proposals developed and secured, and planned gift asks.
  • Works with the senior-level fundraising team on prospect management and assist with strategic planning, with the goal of maintaining and growing the annual campaign while successfully completing the capital campaign.
  • Monitors the major gifts portfolios of executive leadership and Board member volunteers, facilitating and supporting their annual fundraising efforts.
  • Supports the Director of Development on the annual Board Campaign and manages the Board’s ArtsWave Special Gifts Campaign.
  • Manages the Planned Giving program, including creating and implementing an annual plan that includes regular touch points and maximizing website usage and communications vehicles. 

Administration (25%)
Maintains plans in Tessitura CRM on each prospect, documenting active and passive moves on a regular basis for each prospect.

  • Serve as a staff liaison for the Capital Campaign Cabinet and Annual Campaign Committee.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Competencies:

  • Minimum of 5 years in development, with direct experience with annual fund campaigns. Capital campaigns a plus.
  • Proven track record in solicitation and securing major gifts.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be comfortable talking on the phone and with face-to-face interactions.
  • Willingness and ability to learn donor software and utilize the system for moves management, report preparation and other data needs.  Tessitura experience a plus.
  • A desire to work in a fast-paced environment, and the ability to successfully manage multiple priorities on a regular basis.
  • Commitment to DEIA (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Accessibility) values and ability to interact and build relationships with people of diverse backgrounds, personalities, and characteristics.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred. 

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Position is located in a climate-controlled office and currently includes home-based remote work.
  • Digital dexterity and hand/eye coordination in operation of standard office equipment (computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets).
  • Position requires a minimum amount of external activity, but on occasion may require local travel to other worksites.
  • Light lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling of supplies, files, etc.: generally, up to 10 lbs. and occasionally up to 25 lbs.
  • Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching.
  • Ability to speak clearly to and hear/listen to employees/clients via phone or in person.
