The Passing of Jonn Schenz

MISC_Jonn SchenzFrom John Ray:

Jonn Schenz passed away Saturday evening at UC Medical Center after a long battle with lung disease.

Founder of Schenz Theatrical Supply, he leaves behind his life and business partner of 50 years, Stephen A. Rausch, who created the bunny costumes which have famously been part of the annual White House Easter Egg Roll since the early 1980’s.

He also leaves behind innumerable friends made over many years in the theatrical costume business, in the city’s arts and dance communities, in our LGBT community and in Camp Washington, his and the store’s home for more than thirty years.

Always ready with a wisecrack and a story, no one who met him could ever forget him. He is well and deeply loved by so, so many people.

There will be no visitation. Plans for a memorial service pending on developments in the current health crisis are being coordinated by Matt Strausbaugh and myself.

Please send condolences to Stephen Rausch care of Schenz Theatrical Supply, 2955 Colerain Ave., Cincinnati 45225.
