BASED ON THE NOVEL BY GREGORY MAGUIRE

CINCINNATIWICKED, Broadway’s biggest blockbuster and Cincinnati’s most popular musical will return to the Aronoff Center September 13 – October 15, 2017 as a season special for the Fifth Third Bank Broadway in Cincinnati’s 17/18 Season presented by TriHealth. Tickets for the return engagement are on sale now and available at the Aronoff Center Box Office downtown at 650 Walnut Street, online at CincinnatiArts.org or by phone at 513.621.ARTS.

With music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (Pippin, Godspell, Academy Award®-winner for Pocahontas and The Prince of Egypt) and book by Winnie Holzman (“My So Called Life,” “Once And Again” and “thirtysomething”), WICKED is directed by two-time Tony® Award winner Joe Mantello (Take Me Out, Love! Valour! Compassion!, The Vagina Monologues) and features musical staging by Tony® Award winnerWayne Cilento (Aida, The Who’s Tommy, How To Succeed…). The musical is based on the best-selling 1995 novel by Gregory Maguire.

The Broadway sensation, WICKED, looks at what happened in the Land of Oz…but from a different angle.  Long before Dorothy arrives, there is another young woman, born with emerald-green skin, who is smart, fiery, misunderstood, and possessing an extraordinary talent. When she meets a bubbly blonde who is exceptionally popular, their initial rivalry turns into the unlikeliest of friendships…until the world decides to call one “good,” and the other one “wicked.”

With a thrilling score that includes the hits “Defying Gravity,” “Popular” and “For Good,” WICKED has been hailed by The New York Times as “the defining musical of the decade,” and by Time Magazine as “a magical Broadway musical with brains, heart, and courage.”

Winner of over 100 international awards including the Grammy Award and three Tony Awards, WICKED has been performed in over 100 cities in 14 countries around the world (U.S., Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Japan, Germany, Holland, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, The Philippines, Mexico, and Brazil) and has thus far been translated into six languages: Japanese, German, Dutch, Spanish, Korean, and Portuguese.

WICKED will play the Aronoff Center from September 13 – October 15, 2017: Tuesday – Thursday at 7:30PM, Thursday September 14 at 1:00PM, Friday at 8:00PM, Saturday at 2:00PM and 8:00PM, Sunday at 1:00PM and 6:30PM. Tickets start at $42.50. They are available at the Aronoff Center Box Office downtown at 650 Walnut Street, online at CincinnatiArts.org or by phone at 513.621.ARTS. T[HERE] Blends Dance, Theatre, and True Stories with ANONYMOUS at the 2017 Cincinnati Fringe Festival

T[HERE] is pleased to announce its first Cincy Fringe Festival production, ANONYMOUS. This hour-long play uses modern dance, spoken word, and original music to explore challenges of identity and belonging in a city where it’s too easy to remain unseen.

Directed and choreographed by Mandie Reiber with a script devised from hundreds of nameless letters written by citizens of Over-the-Rhine, ANONYMOUS provides an honest, intimate window into the heart of this city.

The show will run between May 31 and June 10 at Gabriel’s Corner (1425 Sycamore Street, Cincinnati, OH 45202) as part of the 2017 Cincy Fringe Festival. Tickets are $15.

This show is appropriate for teens and adults. To order tickets, visit cincyfringe.com/the-lineup. Performances are:

  • Wednesday, May 31 at 7:00pm
  • Saturday, June 3 at 6:30pm
  • Wednesday, June 7 at 7:45pm
  • Friday, June 9 at 8:30pm
  • Saturday, June 10 at 6:30pm

About the Company:
T[HERE] began when Art Academy of Cincinnati student Mandie Reiber set out into the streets of Over-the-Rhine to interview strangers about their challenges. Over the course of a year, more than a hundred anonymous stories evolved into an hour-long performance of dance, poetry, and original music created by Mandie and her cast of eight multidisciplinary artists. The performance, entitled “T[HERE],” was presented at AAC in 2016 as Mandie’s thesis exhibition. The production was awarded the Stephen H. Wilder Traveling Scholarship from AAC, and proceeded to perform at SOS Art Festival and on the streets of Rochester, NY. The next installment in the project, “The Devil Made Me Do It,” performed at Contemporary Dance Theater in November 2016 and focused on mental illness and suicide. T[HERE] is now producing its first Cincy Fringe Festival production, ANONYMOUS which pulls its script directly from interviews and anonymous letters from OTR citizens. Mandie and her cast are passionate about using art as a language to tell true, local, and relevant stories. Learn more about T[HERE] and read some of the stories at thethereproject.com.

SAYING GOODBYE AGAIN on May 23

Cincinnati Playwrights Initiative
May 23
Aronoff Jarson-Kaplan Theater [Downtown]

Pregnant Amy and husband David find themselves viewing their marriage differently, not through a loss of love but almost at places in time that are slightly out of sync. Amy’s parents return from where they’ve gone to help the young couple rediscover each other and unite to construct a secure parental platform for their offspring.  Rothzeid’s narrative is one of hope and transcendence, told beautifully—and lyrically–but not sappily.
