WOMEN PLAYING HAMLET Runs Sept. 15-24

PS_Women Playing HamletWOMEN PLAYING HAMLET
Playhouse South
Sept. 15-24
Kettering

Cast: Victoria Moore as Jessica, Adrian Miller as Gwen/Ghost, Carly Risenhoover-Peterson as Gilda/Psychiartrist/HSN Host, Amanda Schrader as Bartender/Minnesota Mom/Professor, Carrie Thurston as Lord Derby/Priest/Gravedigger, Kara Freeman as Barfly/Model/Rosy &  Jordan Hightower as Emily/Starbucks/Bike Messenger

Hamlet‘s a challenge for any actor, but when Jessica is cast as the titular character in a New York production, it sends her into an existential tailspin. It doesn’t help that her acting coach is borderline abusive, or that every Starbucks barista with an MFA tells her she’s too young for the role. Or that she’s somehow managed to make Sir Patrick Stewart her nemesis. Not to mention the fact that she’s a woman. How can Jessica figure out “to be or not to be,” when she can’t even figure out herself?

Presented by Broadway in Cincinnati
Sept. 13-Oct. 15

Official cast |

Long before that girl from Kansas arrives in Munchkinland, two girls meet in the land of Oz. One – born with emerald green skin – is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. How these two grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good makes for “the most complete – and completely satisfying – new musical in a long time” (USA Today).

WIT IN A RED HAT On Sept. 12

CPI_Wit in a Red HatWIT IN A RED HAT
Cincinnati Playwrights Initiative
Sept. 12
Aronoff Center – Fifth Third Bank Theater [Downtown]

Written by Tammy Brady
Directed by Jennifer Keith

Cast: Erica Brady, Meredith Conner, Eric Day, Megan Hudson, Chuck Ingram, Judy Littlefield & Judy Sceifres

Three distinctly non-Shakespearean witches violate a pledge not to use their powers as they try to corral their town’s straying males, particularly a chicken farmer tellingly nicknamed ‘Cocksey’. The tactics of the weird sisters — actually only two are siblings — go somewhat awry, as their spells have the side effect of returning the husband of the head (not-at-all-ugly) hag to childhood. Tammy Brady’s good-natured comedy recalls the beloved sitcoms Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie but the enchanting principals here are a generation beyond their TV counterparts — thus, the red hat(s).
