About Chip Davis and Mannheim Steamroller
From his longtime home in Omaha, Neb., Mannheim Steamroller creator Chip Davis makes innovative music inspired by the sounds of another age.  This former teacher and jingle writer founded the music industry’s largest independent recording label, American Gramaphone, in 1974 when industry executives said Davis’ innovative 18th century instrumental rock sound would never sell.  In addition to a Grammy Award, Davis is largely credited with establishing the New Age music category. He went on to revolutionize the making and marketing of holiday music. His first Christmas album was released in 1984; the album’s success made Christmas records a “must do” for all music artists.  With more than 40 million total records sold including 28 million Christmas albums, Mannheim Steamroller founder Chip Davis is the #1-selling Christmas music artist of all time.  Davis, one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the music industry, offers a rich array of lifestyle products on www.mannheimsteamroller.com including hot chocolate, food, apparel and novelty items.  His latest achievement is creating a cutting edge psychoacoustic technology that is being used in major medical institutions such as Mayo Clinic.

Synopsis:
If you thought you knew the story of ‘The Princess and The Pea,’ you may be in for a walloping surprise! Did you know, for instance, that Princess Winnifred actually swam the moat to reach Prince Dauntless the Drab? Or that Lady Larken’s love for Sir Harry provided a rather compelling reason that she reach the bridal altar post haste? Or that, in fact, it wasn’t the pea at all that caused the princess a sleepless night? Carried on a wave of wonderful songs, by turns hilarious and raucous, romantic and melodic, this rollicking spin on the familiar classic of royal courtship and comeuppance provides for some side-splitting shenanigans. Chances are you’ll never look at fairy tales quite the same way again.

Character Bios

Minstrel-Tenor
The handsome narrator of the story, as well as in the musical story line. He becomes smitten with Lady Larken and tries to persuade her to flee to Normandy with him. He and the Jester join forces to stop the Queen’s Plans

Wizard-Baritone
The egotistical, ex-performer who directly serves the Queen. He is the Queen’s Henchman and thinks of all the Princess’ tests. He prides himself in his position and basically obeys all of the Queen’s orders.

Lady Larkin- Soprano
The Queen’s Lady-in-Waiting but is put in charge of Princess Winnifred. She is madly in love with Sir Harry and desperately wants to marry him because she is pregnant with his baby. She tries to flee the Kingdom after having an argument with Sir Harry, but is convinced by Winnifred to reunite with him.
Queen Aggravain- Alto
The loud, talkative woman who really rules the country. She is an overprotective, stubborn, sly Mom who is trying to keep her son, Prince Dauntless, from getting married.

Prince Dauntless- Baritone
A nice, not too smart, everyday type of young Prince who desperately wants to get married, but is prevented by his mother’s strict tests that she gives to all potential candidates.

King Sextimus the Silent- Mute
A kind, expressive, playful, and comedic character who is silent due to a curse placed upon him by a witch before the birth of Dauntless. He likes to chase girls through the corridors of the castle. Needs good improv skills.

Jester- Tenor
An energetic and peppy man who is the King’s right-hand man and assists him with every endeavor. The Jester also plots with the Minstrel to spoil the Queen’s plans.

Sir Harry- Tenor
He is the Queen’s Champion-in-Arms – the Lancelot of Knights – the macho, slightly egotistical, brave, romantic knight who decides to leave the kingdom to search for a princess, and finds Princess Winnifred in the swamp. Easily jealous, but loves Lady Larken with all his heart. Harry cannot marry Lady Larken until Prince Dauntless has found a suitable bride.

Princess Winnifred the Woebegone- Mezzo (Strong Belt needed)
A feisty, outspoken, independent, strong, optimistic, and free-thinking princess from the swamp lands. She isn’t too good with manners. She wants to get married, but must go through the queen’s unfair test as well. The Prince, naturally, falls madly in love with her.

Ensemble:
The Ladies-in-Waiting and Knights and are all waiting for the Prince to get married so that THEY can get married to each other.

Show dates will be Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 7:30pm from August 4th through August 13th at the North Park Amphitheatre in Springboro. Contact Nick Bellmyer with any questions at nickbellmyer86@gmail.com.

“SIX PACK: VOLUME 3” follows 2016’s “I’LL HAVE ANOTHER…CHRISTMAS ALBUM,” the world famous a cappella group’s sixth full-length release and first full-length holiday release in seven years. Widely beloved for their trademark takes on Yuletide favorites, Straight No Chaser made their now classic debut with 2008’s “HOLIDAY SPIRITS,” followed in the next year by “CHRISTMAS CHEERS.” Both albums reached the top of the holiday charts at Amazon and the iTunes Store and are now certified gold by the RIAA. Like the preceding “SIX PACK” and “SIX PACK: VOLUME 2,” the new EP continues Straight No Chaser’s long history of bringing their unique touch and inimitable vocal style to a stunning range of contemporary standards. Their most recent non-holiday release, 2015’s “THE NEW OLD FASHIONED,” saw the renowned group putting their matchless touch upon songs spanning The Weeknd and Radiohead to Bob Dylan and Atlantic label mate Charlie Puth.

IT’S ONLY A PLAY Runs June 2-10

MLT_Its Only a Play logoIT’S ONLY A PLAY
Middletown Lyric Theatre
June 2-10
Middletown

Directed by Nathan Greer

Cast: Chris Griesinger as Frank, Karen Griesinger as Julia, Ken Jaffe as Ira, Diane Minnich as Virgina, Michael Schlotterbeck as James & Jacob O’Connor as Gus

It’s the opening night of “The Golden Egg” on Broadway, and the wealthy producer Julia Budder is throwing a lavish party. However, cloistered in a bedroom upstairs is a group of insiders have staked themselves out to await the reviews. The group includes the excitable playwright; the possibly unstable wunderkind director and the pill-popping leading lady. Add to this a drama critic who’s panned the playwright in the past and a new-in-town aspiring singer, and you have a prime recipe for the narcissism, ambition, childishness, and just plain irrationality that infuse the theatre—and for comedy. But don’t worry: This play is sure to be the hit they have all been hoping for.
