Madcap Puppets Announces New Artistic Director

MCP_Dylan

Dylan Shelton.

Westwood – Madcap Productions Puppet Theatre is excited to announce as Artistic Director, effective immediately. As Artistic Director, Shelton says, “Puppetry as a theatrical art form and as a tool for education can have such a positive impact on children. I can’t wait to see Madcap’s influence grow in our own community in Cincinnati and around the nation.”

Dylan Shelton graduated from Wilmington College with a BA in Theatre and earned an MFA in the Professional Actor Training Program at Ohio University. Shelton began his career at Madcap Productions Puppet Theater as an actor in 2002 and trained with Jerry Handorf, the founder and visionary leader of Madcap. Shelton began managing Madcap’s Puppet Studio as the Creative Director in 2006. As Creative Director, he has been training new puppeteers, writing and directing shows, designing and building puppets, and performing in numerous productions across the country and internationally. As an educator in the arts, Shelton has enjoyed teaching many classes, including Improvisation at Xavier University, Acting at Ohio University, and puppet workshops at Northern Kentucky University.

About Madcap:
Cincinnati-based Madcap Puppets is a non-profit company combining giant puppets with professional actors to create an innovative and exciting concept of puppetry that allows all the elements of theatre to be combined in an artistic and educational performance. Formed over 35 years ago, Madcap is known throughout the country for exciting productions and giant puppet characters. Each puppet play is developed from an original and highly creative script, rich in cultural content and enhanced with innovative and colorful sets and props that young audiences love. Performances bring to life children’s literature and fables from around the world.

Madcap believes that participation in and exposure to the arts is an integral part of a child’s complete education. As funding for the arts declines, many schools and teachers must look to outside organizations like Madcap to provide the creative, educational and cultural opportunities that they can no longer afford to provide to the students.

The Mad Anthony Theatre Company Seeks Set Designer for SCOTT & HEM

MATCThe Mad Anthony Theatre Company is seeking a set designer for its final production of the 2015-2016 season, SCOTT AND HEM.  This is PAID POSITION.  The set is a simple interior set and all materials will be provided.  Compensation is for the design.  Additional compensation can be provided if the designer is able to build the set as well.

Please contact the producer/director Adam Drake at ajdrake1@gmail.com.

SCOTT AND HEM will be performed May 12-15, 2016 at the Fitton Center for Creative Arts in Hamilton, Ohio.  Tickets are only $10.00 + fees and can be purchased online at www.fittoncenter.org.

The year is 1937, and novelist F. Scott Fitzgerald is holed up in a Hollywood villa, trying to finish a screenplay and stay on the wagon while a raucous July 4th party unfolds beneath his balcony. When Ernest Hemingway enters, the real fireworks begin. Their encounter sparks a rambling conversation that ranges from alcoholism and insanity to death and homosexuality. Their egos are larger than the Hollywoodland sign outside the window. They drop names and one-liners. But for all their swagger and luster, the two writers are haunted by the nagging fear that they are out of words. Scott and Hem is a drama about the cost of love, friendship, and the price of being a writer.

Event Sponsor – Sara Carruthers

Walnut Hills High School’s Theatre Department Presents Anton Chekhov’s THE CHERRY ORCHARD

“The Cherry Orchard finds all of its characters in a time of momentous change in between two events of historical significance.” -Michael Sherman, Director

“‘The Cherry Orchard’ has so many great roles that it could easily become anyone’s play…” -Andrew Alexander, Theatre Producer

“Underneath the dillydallying in the final scene — the hunt for lost galoshes, the worry over train times — are the terror and giddy excitement that accompany change and the knowledge of how powerless we are to prevent it.” -The New York Times

WHHS_logoTHE CHERRY ORCHARD is Chekhov’s last full length play. It is an intimate look at an impoverished landowning family who is unable to face the fact that their estate is about to be auctioned off. Lopakhin, a local merchant, presents numerous options to save it, including cutting down their prized cherry orchard. But the family is stricken with denial. THE CHERRY ORCHARD charts the precipitous descent of a wealthy family and in the process creates a bold meditation on social change and materialism.

The show will run for three evenings:
