For 10 hard-luck Texans, a new lease on life is so close they can touch it. Over the next 144 hours under a scorching sun they will laugh, cry and push their bodies and minds to the limits as they fight to keep at least one hand on a brand new truck. The contestant with the most nerve—and tenacity—will drive away with the American Dream. Inspired by true events, this new musical is a peek into the lives of everyday, ordinary Americans, struggling to survive against the backdrop of a broken and beaten working middle class.

GET THE LED OUT: The American Led Zepplin | Fri., Oct. 17 | Aronoff Center

GET THE LED OUT:
The American Led Zeppelin

GET THE LED OUT

GET THE LED OUT

October 17, 2014 • Aronoff Center

Tickets on sale Friday, August 8 at 10:00 AM

CINCINNATI, OH – Get The Led Out, the acclaimed Led Zeppelin tribute band, will rock the Aronoff Center’s Procter & Gamble Hall for one night only on Friday, October 17 at 8:00 PM.  The event is part of the Cincinnati Arts Associations 2014-15 Season.

Tickets are on sale now at  www.CincinnatiArts.org, (513) 621-ARTS [2787], and the Aronoff Center Ticket Office.

From the bombastic and epic, to the folky and mystical, Get The Led Out has captured the essence of the recorded music of Led Zeppelin and brought it to the big concert stage. The Philadelphia-based group consists of six accomplished musicians intent on delivering Led Zeppelin’s studio recordings with all the bells and whistles. Utilizing the multi-instrumentalists at their disposal, Get The Led Out re-creates the songs in all their depth and glory with the studio overdubs that Zeppelin themselves never performed live.

Dubbed by the media as “The American Led Zeppelin,” Get The Led Out presents a two-hour-plus set that spans the mythic career of the legendary British supergroup. With a strong focus on the early years, they also touch on the deeper cuts that were seldom, if ever, heard in concert.

Get The Led Out’s approach to their performance of this hallowed catalog is not unlike a classical performance. “Led Zeppelin are sort of the classical composers of the rock era,” says lead vocalist Paul Sinclair. “I believe 100 years from now they will be looked at as the Bach or Beethoven of our time. As cliché as it sounds, their music is timeless.”

A Get The Led Out concert mimics the “light and shade” that is the embodiment of “The Mighty Zep.” Whether it’s the passion and fury with which they deliver the blues-soaked, groove-driven rock anthems, or the delicate nature of their intimate, sit-down acoustic set (complete with a special guest female vocalist for “The Battle of Evermore”), it’s their attention to detail and nuance that makes a Get The Led Out performance a truly awe-inspiring event!

Paul Sinclair – Lead Vocals, Harmonica
Paul Hammond – Electric and Acoustic Guitars, Mandolin, Theremin
Jimmy Marchiano – Electric and Acoustic Guitars, Vocals
Billy Childs – Bass Guitar, Vocals
Andrew Lipke – Keyboards, Guitar, Vocals, Percussion
Adam Ferraioli – Drums, Percussion

Diana DeSantis, special guest vocalist on “The Battle of Evermore”

My Visit With Miss Fleeta Mae Bryte at TDW

TDW_Precious Heart2

Greg Smith as Fleeta Mae Bryte.

Last Sunday afternoon I finally made it over to The Drama Workshop’s new home, The Glenmore Playhouse. I was never inside when it was a bowling alley, but I’ve been eager to see the inside of the space.

The front doors open into a bright and spacious lobby that is very inviting. The performance space, for this production configured with seating on three sides, is intimate without feeling cramped. Congratulations on what TDW has accomplished so far and I look forward to seeing the progress continue.

As for Miss Fleeta Mae Bryte, she is quite the character, as my Mom would say, both in manner and dress. She invites the audience into her home and into her life, sharing equal amounts of Texan wisdom, her family history and the neighborhood gossip of Precious Heart, Texas. And you haven’t lived til you seen the lady all gussied up.

Greg Smith brings a polished character to the stage. His performance has some nice emotional undertones. Strong-minded and strong-willed, you can still catch moments of regret and loneliness as they flicker across Fleeta Mae’s face. Also, the inner child in me really enjoyed that Fleet Mae is a tongue-thinker. 🙂

Overall a funny and entertaining one-person show and a great way to support the continued transformation of a new theater on the west side.

Three performances of PRECIOUS HEART remain. Tonight and Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 2pm. Proceeds from this limited-engagement production will help fund construction of a handicap access ramp for The Glenmore Playhouse.
