This classic comedy opens as a group of the guys assembled for cards in the apartment of divorced Oscar Madison. And if the mess is any indication, it’s no wonder that his wife left him. Late to arrive is Felix Unger who has just been separated from his wife. Fastidious, depressed and none too tense, Felix seems suicidal, but as the action unfolds Oscar becomes the one with murder on his mind when the clean-freak and the slob ultimately decide to room together with hilarious results.

(Cheviot, OH) The Drama Workshop is pleased to announce that Ted Karber, Jr, the playwright of their upcoming production, PRECIOUS HEART, will be attending the July 25 and July 26 performances of this hilarious comedy. There will be a reception following the performance both days to allow the audience to meet Mr. Karber, the star of the show, Mr. Greg Smith, and the rest of the production team.

Mr. Karber is traveling to Cincinnati from his home in El Paso, Texas, specifically to attend these performances. The reception is limited to ticketholders for the night of the performance. Tickets may be ordered online at www.thedramaworkshop.org, or at the 24-hour ticket line at 513.598.8303.

Ted Karber, Jr. is a native of El Paso, Texas. He became interested in playwriting as a freshman in high school, and has continued to learn this craft throughout his life. In 1985 Ted received a BA in Theatre Arts and English from UT El Paso, and in 1988 he received an MA in Theatre Arts. At various times in his life Ted has taught at the university and junior college levels. In 1997 Ted founded, and served as the artistic director of El Paso’s premier community theatre, Aardvark Theatre, Inc. While serving as artistic director of Aardvark, Ted directed over 30 productions. Included in these numbers are Long Day’s Journey into Night, Streetcar Named Desire, The House of Bernarda Alba, and Medea.

In 2005, Ted closed Aardvark Theatre to devote his time to playwriting. Ted was a semi finalist in the Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center’s National Playwrights Conference in 1993 (Precious Heart) and 2007 (Bunty’s Bones). Precious Heart was premiered in Dayton, Ohio by Firstage Productions. Subsequent productions of Precious Heart have been given in Dayton and El Paso.

Director Blake Senseman is thrilled to bring PRECIOUS HEART back to the stage. “Precious Heart has been, for me, a chance to work again with the multi talented Greg Smith,” he said.”His ability to give Fleeta a depth of character that is at once hugely funny and at the next sweetly sad generates true pathos. A talent that makes it very easy for the audience to be pulled into Fleeta Mae Bryte’s world and a talent that made my job very easy to execute. Hat’s off to Ted Karber Jr. for creating such an unforgettable character!”

This special, limited-engagement run of PRECIOUS HEART will raise funds for construction of a handicap access ramp for The Drama Workshop.
